These videos are great! I especially enjoy the 60 card constructed formats.
Please do a two headed giant episode. It’s got the be the most underrated way to play
I wanted to thank you for creating shuffle up & play, just such a nice atmosphere, great guests and a dashing sympathetic host, what more can one wish for? Keep up the good work!
Dear Prof.
Could you make all of them decklists available?
I might get them for my playgroup. :)
Also, I got quite a degree, yes it's with numbers and formulas. proper science.
Now I want “Hey Editor!” to be a running joke on this show.
Can we just appreciate that prof included a link to information on the right to form a labor union in the description.
Thanks for pointing that out! I don't usually "like" videos, but I had to do it here when I saw that.
brilliant catch!
I certainly do
Yes, earned my sub!

Spice's realization "oh, I have infinite mana" was so funny.
Funny? It was freaking awesome.
As soon as I saw him play them, I said that he won. Glad to see this particular combo win. It's a personal favorite of mine.
This is just like the three types of goblins:
RhysticStudies, the precious baby
Spice8Rack, funny little guy
The Professor, full bastard
Love it
Spice is practically looming over them at that table
@@briankuczynski6884 funny little guy is in the soul, not the body
As a funny little bastard goblin, I appreciate this representation
When Rhystic studies made that Teferi pun I realized pauper has no planeswalkers. I have to play this format!
Magic the way Richard Garfield intended.
Yes you do
No Planeswalkers? SIGN ME UP RIGHT NOW.
Seeing Rhystic Studies and Spice8Rack together is glorious.
I second that. Great chemistry!
I was sitting here like rhystic study the RUclipsr sounds so familiar...
Nope
Lol like order and chaos! It’s the interaction we never knew we needed.
I love both of them I’m so glad they made a video together
Spice working out the Moggwarts combo live was amazing.
Yes it was! A really awesome moment that I am so glad we were able to capture and share.
That is a *really good name.*
Can you do a similar thing with the Makeshift Munitions? Sac a Putrid Goblin for R, it comes back, fire it out of the cannon, it comes back, go to step one; and repeat ad infinitum?
@@RedHarbinger Absolutely. If he drew into Makeshift Munitions he could have won that way too.
That moment especially hilarious to me because I spotted the combo the instant he played First Day of Class lol
I love that none of you knew that Pauper Goblins is a combo deck going into it.
Spice's speech + the fucking cut back to the open shot with Sam dabbing at the end there lmaooo 🤣
Props to editor Kevyn Wallace, Prof, the guests on camera and the whole team, this episode was top notch 💖
You r got nothing to lose but your chains baby!
Honestly I really want a podcast with these 3, maybe forever
I'm sure there's a damn good name that can be made for a podcast starring a professor and two scholars talking about magic cards.
Edit: Tolarian Office Hours?
@@Nouxatar Peer Review
I second this, would totally be a weekly listen!
That's a glorious idea.
An absolute dream!
I love being able to see a video with my favorite highly educated magic RUclipsrs. Prof being there is cool too I guess
Hahahaha
For the editor! May they get a real cup of coffee to stave off the madness.
prof will take it for himself
@@melonyfbb gonna counter that
@@Ninjujitsupact of negation. Prof needs the coffee more. I'm willing to die for it.

Sam saying "the proletariat took the victory" in a sports commentator-like tone gave me so much joy
This showcases everything great about pauper. First, a case full of decks (because they are cheap). Second, someone cast ponder and played a cheap 5/5. Third, we got to see an infinite combo (and not the only one in pauper by far).
Love Pauper
Proxies are always cheap as well.
love how he find the combo in the combo deck XD
My favorite format
@@Ghalaghor_McAllistor Its a great fomat its cheap and its not to broken and its very simular to legacy
"No more Mr. Spice Guy."
I thought the same thing!!!
This seems like a great place to share my mildly amusing story of when I met Spice8Rack.
It was the 2019 GPVegas, he was one of many fabulous guests visiting. As an entrenched resident of the Commander Tables I saw him walking past and enthusiastically waved hello, calling out his handle. Not just waving back he must not have been too busy at the moment and came over to the table to reciprocate the greeting. The usual of course, I thank him for his work and we show our appreciation for his channel, he politely (and likely with genuine passing interest, not purely out of social obligation) asked what everyone was playing. We all took turns giving a one sentence or less summation of our current EDH deck, mine being "Athreos, boardwipe tribal." To which his reaction was a small laugh and words to the affect of "That's awful, I hope you lose."
Being one of the guest personalities invited to the event, he quickly bid farewell and was on his way. Within a couple hours later I was walking around, looking at the various vendors and spot him again, having a lively chat with another attendee. I figured I'd fill him in on the game result real quick, though as I hovered to discern a good time to either briefly cut in or gauge when that conversation might end (so even better I could avoid any interruption whatsoever), I was struck by what he was talking about. He was driving an animated conversation on eugenics, a startling thing to hear about in this context to say the least.
Thankfully I didn't have to make a call on debating if I should butt in or not as that conversation ended and I was able to let him know he had got what he wanted, "Hey. I lost that game." I informed, to which without hesitation he replied,
"Good."
To be abundantly clear, this was all in good fun, it was a big highlight of my trip!
I remember that! It was such a delight to hear from you after that you did, indeed, lose that game, and it's even more delightful that you remember the interaction so fondly!!
@@Spice8Rack Oh of course I do, it was a treat. Some superb snark that I expected, if I had won I probably wouldn't have thought to bring it up again.
And it was so immensely gratifying to see the Yawgmoth video, giving context to the conversation I had overheard.
@@00Clank the Yawgmoth video is phenomenal in a disturbing, tragic way. It still surprises me that Spice had the confidence to engage with historical eugenics in an MTG lore video, but it’s a richer video for having real historical commentary.
@@metaphics Absolutely. I adore learning about history and the things that inspire and help build fiction.
Gotta love Spice 8 Rack's classic catchphrase: "Join a union."
Honestly "favorite mtg breadtuber" would not have been a sentence I would have known I needed so badly to be true if it hadn't already happened
Three of my favorite creators playing one of my favorite formats!
"and I wax as well" was a joke that got me laughing for a solid minute
*And* "I'll hold on to this puppy like a vet might to a normal puppy" literally made me spit my drink
Wait... So Rhystic Studies is NOT an all-knowing ethereal entity which appears only in voice each couple of months to bless us with beautiful MTG content? Woah!
Hey all, I really appreciate the resources for unionizing and the discussion about workers' rights, but not many people know that Card Kingdom employees are attempting to unionize right now! I know there would be some tension with sponsorships, but it would be so great if y'all could look into that situation and maybe shine some spotlight on their efforts. Thanks!
You are both so utterly lovely
You are!
Now imagine a podcast with you three. Make Tolarian Spicy Studies a reality.
Loved everything about this, but Spice finding the combo was glorious. Also, I would give anything to see Spice, Sam, Vince, and the Prof play CEDH together.
Oh man, yeah, Vince would be a perfect addition to this group. The banter would be legendary.
Lol when he finally played the combo I understood how the deck worked. Every single card was so confusing- all I could think was "is Pauper really slow enough to kill your opponent with 8 mana ability activations and 1 dmg pings off artifact lands?"
Then he showed the combo and everything made sense.
Love the format, love the people, great video. Shuffle Up and Play is fast becoming my favorite gameplay magic show on RUclips just for the breadth of the game it displays.
7:30 for Spice8Rack, on the topic of city names, there is actually a town in Italy called La Spezia which is literally "The Spice"
Learning that Sam is fluent in italian explains how he totally nailed the pronounciation in his latest New Capenna video
Lmao Spice's moment of clarity at the end when he realized the combo reminded me of his Kentaro deck tech video where he found out by accident that he could cast stuff for free
Three of the best, according to me, mtg youtube creators. I love the chaotic and fun vibe of these games.
Also Spice8rack vibing with "THAT'S THE SOUND OF THE PROLETARIAN RISING, BABY" and the dabbing dancing of Rhystic Studies
Man this video had some good vibes. I enjoyed it from beginning to end.
I appreciate that
@@TolarianCommunityCollege professor it was so good. I’ve been watching you for close to 8 years now and I never tire of your endless quest for bigger and better. Just incredible!
That outro put a nice bow on it.
*MONEE £ $*
Spice8Rack is like a living, breathing Venture Bros character
What a devastating compliment.
This video is Oozing charisma. Just wow
Edit. This is my first time seeing spice8rack. Entertaining and now im going to binge his channel lol
I just realized 10 minutes in this is goblin combo not normal goblins XD this could be an issue
This worked out in the best way possible
love that reaction lol, I was thinking the same thing
Is there a nonMoggwarts Goblin deck in Pauper?
@@regirayquaza yep. Bushwhacker aka Syntheslighzer. Check out Cooper the Red's RUclips channel for league play.
@@regirayquaza Yes, mono-red goblins is quite good, though it doesn't see a ton of play online. Having access to cards like Goblin Grenade and Goblin Bushwhacker means you can kill out of nowhere.
"I'm gonna say I have 16 trillion red mana now"
There is a Power Gamer in my soul that rejoices when I lay eyes upon such goblin perfection
I think my favorite part is how Prof put two links in the description on how to unionize
Join a union, baby
This shows production value hits the exact sweetspot. It's not nearly as overproduced as a certain popular commander show on the youtube, while still being fast paced and having easily readable gameplay unlike a lot of the channels that upload nearly raw footage. I honestly can't get enough of this series and it would be enough to fill a whole second channel in my opinion
3 of the dopest magic content creators. *cheers*
My three favorite mtg content creators together, this will be good
Funny thing about Duress, if you can take a card with it you must, so I won a game against Moggwarts, the goblin deck, by casting Beckon Apparition in response to it, forcing my opponent to put Prismatic Strands into my graveyard so I could flash it back by tapping the spirit token and stop the combo from killing me.
Spice8rack speaking Welsh makes me immensely happy.
I love it how spice8rack just explains obvious things to the viewers while playing
It's for the viewers at home! I would have never guessed that the furnace enters untapped.
But any basic mtg player would know it's etb's untapped
@@AAAAGGGGGHHHHsphere would they? what if they've never seen the card before?
I think it's something Prof wants to happen in these games, the previous games also have everyone explaining just about every card (with a hilarious gag of explaining lands in the second episode!). I'm fairly new to magic and I greatly appreciate it
Well, any player who's played for like, 9 months should know
Love to see Pauper!
In defense of both gentlemen over there, these are both really hard decks to pilot.
This is one of my favorite epiaodes because the Prof becomes so unabashedly filled with the sillies during his game.
I love the combination. Rhystic Studies and Spice8Rack are some of my favourite RUclipsrs and the academia jokes have me laughing while dying a tad inside. I think from now one I'm going to describe doing my PhD as being FUNemployed. Also, love the way the professor interacts with Shuffle Up & Play!
This is the best MTG gameplay video I've ever seen. Perfect trio.
And in only the second longest thing spice8rack is in this week
Good to see that the nonsense tabletop banter of Magic doesn’t change even when the players are all highly educated and articulate! Super fun episode lol
"You wouldn't download a car"
Has me in tears
This has quickly become one of my favorite gameplay shows. Great job with this series, Prof!
Yes, you can make Goblins in any format! Loved playing them in 93/94, Goblin Balloon Brigade for the win 🔥
Nothing but respect for you proff, this is quality content. The proletarians demands more.
That 'I _really_ need lands' has already become iconic. It's already a meme within my playgroup! Lovely episode! Sam is always so charming!
The poor Atogs 😭 I haven’t played pauper in forever, still have a now-illegal affinity deck together. I will never forget, my first pauper tournament realizing I could kill someone on turn three when my opponent tapped out to counter my thoughtcast and I just had the Atog//Fling for lethal 😂
I was sad to see Atog go, but luckily affinity is still really good
I replaced Atog with Krark Clan Brute and while obviously less powerful, it still is a pretty good sac outlet and fling target.
Atog was always a bit too strong IMO, but the MH2 Indestructible Artifacts Lands and a few other recent things just pushed it and Affinity over the edge. It's pretty telling that despite losing like half a dozen cards in just the past year, Affinity is *still* one of the strongest decks in Pauper. (Can't wait for the same thing to happen with Monastery Swiftspear probably being too strong.)
This has quickly become my favourite youtube magic series, the vibe is always just perfect.
Liking just for the editor and his care-bear skills
The face-flipping too, damn that was funny 😆
Spice 8 Rack made me feel comfortable painting my nails.
@@Spice8Rack you inspired my husband to do so as well! It's crazy how these tiny bits of pushing the envelope can have an impact
@Spice8Rack do you remember what color this was? I absolutely love it!
Love to see awesome Pauper content from such amazing people! Watching Spice work out that combo was just diabolically wonderful.
Also, really looking forward to next week. I used to play the Maverick vs. Reanimator matchup all the time with my best friend during my peak Legacy years so I'm excited to watch how it plays out!
Props to the editor for being fun.
Haven't laughed out loud at a YT video in quite a while and this episode had me in stitches.
The chemistry between Prof, Spice, and Sam is phenomenal. What an excellent cast. Highly looking forward to my spicy goblin boi playing commander on SU&P in the near future.
Also now I need to go buy pauper goblins because that combo came out of nowhere
The holy trinity of MTG content creators I follow despite not being an MTG player myself. What a time to be alive!
It feels so right for Spice to win by dethroning his Monarch enemy and then demonstrating the Infinite Power of the Goblins!
Kinda sad about the Proffesor losing, but that was such a perfect Magic moment - the match couldn't have ended in a better way
Also just wanna say that I am loving this series Prof, and I'm eagerly awaiting future installments!
This episode was incredible. Such great chemistry between everyone involved. Competent players in unfamiliar formats and fun conversations.
This is quite possibly my favorite RUclips video of all time
I’m mainly a commander and limited player, but this video definitely sparked an interest in 60 card magic and Pauper. These games were legitimately entertaining to follow and perfect for being in the background of organizing my singles :)
I love this series not only because it's fun, but also because it shows me new people to learn about!
It's been months since I saw this video, and it's because of this that I started following the channel, my favorite episodes are all the ones in which you three have played, they are hilarious
The chemistry between you 3 is so good, I'm loving shuffle up and play
I’ve heard of both of these guests, but never checked out their content. Supremely witty guys. I’d love to see Vince added to this mix over a game of EDH. That’s some dream team banter right there.
Also psyched as hell for Arin coming up! Love Game Grumps, favorite RUclips channel ever. Seeing him interact with MtG creators has been a treat so far.
litterally discovered the infinite 5 seconds before spice did that was a blast
Same, I was about to scroll to comments to see if it was pointed out when he realized it.
Sam "there's probably a combo there" made me laugh
I was waiting for them to figure out the combo 😂
Can’t thank you enough for this series. Every episode is fun, full of charm, and groovy froods, and just what we need in these stressful times.
Spice winning with an infinite combo in pauper was way too fucking good.
Such a blast of an episode! Watching this makes me want to try Pauper. Power to the proletariat! ❤️
Yes! I've been waiting for pauper game play. Good choices on the decks!
Loved this, some fantastic games. I think the three of you each encapsulate really important aspects of the hobby, the lore, the art and the products themselves. Great video!
This was so great! Very glad you started Shuffle Up and Play. Looking forward to the next! Thanks, Prof!
A wonderful episode, amazing plays, getting that goblin deck for myself for sure, to show everyone the power of the proletariat. More of these two in the future, please
You know they actually downloaded the list without ever playing and looking into it as they've discovered the whole focus of the Goblin deck while playing it ahahah
that was superb!
I know nothing of pauper, but as soon as I saw a persist creature I was looking for a combo because I know no one plays persist fairly. Don't blame Spice at all for not seeing it at first, but watching him *almost* get there in game one was heartbreaking.
@@aidennoir597 absolutely agree
I gotta say, a bit of a shame for them to not know their decklists prior of playing, but it was a very fun exchange nonetheless!
@@fel_95 actually I think its amazing. We get to witness players that we admire have that lightning in a bottle moment, that we all experience at some point in time. To have that archived, the Eureka moment, is priceless.
This group has such great chemistry. It just kept getting better as little in-jokes were built up and referenced. This just became one of my favorite videos.
This was a great episode!
I knew I smelt a combo as soon as I saw the 8 mana > 5 damage effect, so getting to figure it out live with Spice was a lot of fun.
Makeshift Munitions is the other infinite combo ;)
@@goodshipzion yeah that line follows too, sacrificing putrid goblin to makeshift munitions while you have first day of class active and a skirk propsector out.
Legion loyalist is my favorite little sneaky goblin of all time.
All Boros Are Cops, though. Wait, that's not how the saying goes.
@@radikalskippy all cops are boros
Wow, 3 of my favourite Mtg youtube channels playing my favourite format.
Glad you enjoy it!
What an absolute joy it was to watch this episode. This series is really incredibly enjoyable. Good job, Prof.
These episodes manage to be better and better every time!! Amazing guests and such a fun atmosphere throughout the games, thank you for the great content, Professor! :D
I am loving this new gameplay content, so many great guests.
Oh man that preview for next week... It's been a long time coming, the Egoraptor / Professor collab.
I'm really enjoying this series, especially as you do different formats every time. Lovely!
Never played but now sold on Pauper, this looked like so much fun! Thanks for this video!
That infinite mana combo discovery was such a great moment. Episode was a ton of fun!
This is easily one of the best pieces of magic the gathering content on the internet. That was spectacular.
This game series has been delightful - truly it's so fun to see the variety of people you've invited to come play and how much fun y'all have together. Also, Prof lost at home!
"Remember, it's my turn too" may be the single best encapsulation of a control deck that I've ever heard.
Just when I thought the Cedric/P. Sully video was the best, this masterpiece of entertainment comes out!
Great series, great guests, and just a ton of fun to watch.
Dope seeing them play together but holy moly I'm just thinking of alternate lines in the game
Thought this would be another run of the mill mtg gameplay series, but all of these episodes have been really fun to watch. Great guests, and just some really comfy gameplay. Looking forward to the next episode.
I love you and your videos! The first Magic cards I ever bought was the street fighter secret lair (kind of dumb!) but after that I FINALLY, after all these years, started learning the game!!! At first I watched your videos here and there and a lot of the info was over my head, but now I’m fully in! It’s really great what you do, not only teaching the game and reviewing products, but by creating good content and putting yourself out there with a lot of positivity and personality, that can mean a lot to people - whether they are bored, need to chill, or are going through hard times. So thank you! You’re making the world a better place
Damn, Spice 8 Rack is hilarious, I think I’m in love
right!??
This was the most fun 75 minutes I've spent in a while...great series, Prof!!!
This episode was well worth the wait! Great games and interaction with the guests makes for a good time as a viewer
