For Ritchie Sambora fans this is like learning there is no Santa Claus. 😂
feel u mate! 💔
I don't know about RiTchie Sambora fans, but Richie Sambora fans have known this for decades. 😉
@@thequiet1374 What about fans of JoHn Bon Jovi? Do you spellcheck them, too?
@@yuri_nazarenko only if they say stupid shit 😘
WAIT? what do you mean about Santa????
Tell me you're a badass on the guitar without telling me you are a badass on the guitar. Play badass licks and smile like a Cheshire cat. That's Tim.`
That's Tim! 😂
You are right on. The man is a phenomenon. I could watch him grin and play for hours.
Tim's guitar face is like an enlightened Buddhist monk's.
So true
So tired of the repetitive worn-out comments.
🤣You mean to tell me that my favorite Ritchie Sambora lead break is actually You playing it??? That is so Frigging hilarious to find that out all
these years later! Me and my cousin both guitar players of 4 years at that time(1984) used to listen to that solo because it was really catchy and melodic.
We really liked it a lot! 🤘
same here. my eyes got really big when I heard that. been covering that song 30+yrs ago and I had to be today years old to learn about Tim being that hero in the background.
I never owned the album or read the band credits, so I always assumed that it was Sambora!
A lot of songs people think are played by their favorite guitarist are played by session guitarists. Probably a lot of them are played by Tim Pierce
Lots of people also don't know that right before John Bongiovi was "Bon Jovi", he was the guitar player for Scandal
just shows you...ehh...good old Tim did it....
I was always amazed at how polished and musical this was for a first song. Even better than their later hits. Now I know why!
It was their best song. Best vocal harmony and that high part. Excellent guitar work.
Agreed. And always wondered.
I always thought Richie Sambora played the solo on Runaway. Now I know. Thank you Tim.
The guitar sound and solo always made that song for me. I never knew it was you. You like what you like, and you pop up all over the place... a lot like Steve Lukather.
You know whats cool. He doesn't over play like so many others. Melodic, clean and the sound has that 80's crunch.
Yep.
Note how little flubs he EVER makes...I may have found one? when he was improving?..he's a machine
the run away solo has always been one of my favorites
That solo was always my Favorite "Ritchie sambora" lead and finding out he didn't play it is hilarious to me!🤣
Its like being shot out of a cannon
One of the best solos in a rock song. And I don’t even like Bon Jovi.
I like it better now knowing Tim played it
@@johnrhyne6015 Who played it has zero relevance on the fact it is a great lead break to me. I am impressed a young kid played that solo!(tim was very young buck back then!😁
Wow, mad props Tim! Best solo on any Bon Jovi song. Oz has been revealed. I am shocked to find out it was NOT Richie!
I've never cared for Bon Jovi (as a band) but I love Tim Pierce and his stories and respect the heck out of him as a musician.
Same - Except for 1 song: Runaway. Now I know why. 😂
Yeah I can’t say I’ve ever been a fan. However I did see a thing about the kitchen that he has. It’s really cool. Their menu doesn’t have prices. And there’s just an envelope on the table for you to pay what you can. Even if you can’t. And I think that’s pretty awesome.
I wasn't half way there...fan wise
same here...i can't do with that "All american" goody goody tooshoo stuff...but hey.....so what.
Seemed like music for pre-teens. Somehow, ended up in nightclubs, because they were often catchy dance tunes or slow dance ballads.
I have the original 1981 runaway cassette bon Jovi where lead guitar credits is non other than MR. TIM PIERCE
Pow! Yep.
28:02 Wow I can't believe Tim knows I exist haha. That literally made my day!! Been watching his channel for years. Thanks so much for answering my question!
Roy, you are great ! Nice to meet you
Roy - I got your speed builder course - its been super useful and has become a part of my daily routine. 👍
I agree about slowing down, find the sweet groove in your head and play what feels good.
I’ve said it before but I really enjoy listening to your experiences on and off the guitar.
Thanks Tim
The video is shorter than 28 minutes.
Hey Roy! I have your course on speed playing! Is this comment on another video? There's no 28:02.
BTW, thanks! Your course is helping my slow hands a little. At some time I hope to be able to play Luke's Rosanna solo without feeling like I'm falling upwards and inexplicably landing on the top rung... And that's not even that fast a solo. That's how slow I am after 40 years of playing and 35 of practicing that solo... On and off.
I'm a huge fan of shred for the past 40yrs but to this day I think that's one of the best guitar solos ever.
"Runaway" has one of my favorite solos ever!!! I didn't know Tim was the one playing it... I thought it was Richie Sambora. Now understand the different styles on the solos from this song to what came after! "Runaway"'s solo is powerful, it feels real, aggressive, and cool!
I was about 14 when the song Runaway was on the radio it was SOOOOOO AHEAD OF IT'S TIME. My own children are just now young adults and they can tell you that I have always used this song to show how timeless a well structured song can be. 🙏🏼❤️🔥🏆
Even before I knew who Tim Pierce was, his solos were impacting me as a player and a listener… All these years later, it makes me laugh at how many things I loved or because Tim was playing on them!
I can see why you’ve been so successful Tim, playing aside (which is immaculate, tasteful, and always adds to anything you’re on) your personality and demeanor is so humble and kind. Can’t fake that. Kudos sir.
it's seriously one of the most badass, iconic, and memorable solos from the 80s. Be proud Tim!
Have always loved and admired that solo Tim.
Even as a hard rock/metal bit, it still has that George Harrison/Mike Campbell factor: nothing there that isn't necessary, _everything_ that is. And the "challenging" part is the cherry on top, irresistible. Bravo, hat's off.
This is what they mean by playing what's right for the song. This has always been one of my favorite solos, perfectly composed, dramatic, builds and flows just right and most of all MEMORABLE....the 80s was full of thousand note shredding, dive bombs and tapping etc, but not a lot of it was memorable or else it sounds dated today. This still sounds fresh and powerful. It doesn't get much better than this for guitar solos.
Tim Pierce Guitar, This is amazing! I can't stop smiling!
Tim, your otherworldly chops are only eclipsed by your humble wonderful attitude. Every one of your videos is educational and utterly inspiring.
Wow Tim! That was one of my favorite Bon Jovi songs and that solo lives in my heart! Makes me happy that I take your course!
“Breakdown Dead Ahead”!
I love that reverse slide too!!!
Great playing as always, Tim.👍
WOW! I just lvoe these stories you are pulling off our sleeve so casualy! Keep doing great job!
From joyous playing to encouraging players to roll with their playing despite/because of limits...
Thank you Tim.
Tim, you play guitar on any given day like I could only hope for on my best day and all the work you've done on all the great records over the years is truly impressive. Thanks for sharing.
One of my favorite leads from back in the day - not surprised it's you! Grateful you are on four of my songs - ROCK!
Tim, your attitude, playing and smile are always perfect!
Tim: Thanks for this and all your other vids. These stories (and your teaching!) are a great legacy and allow some historical context that would otherwise be forgotten.
You always have these great stories and you’re a great storyteller. Thanks for doing this channel. 🙏😊
You’re an amazing player Tim… I’m inspired by your joy of playing the music. Thank you! 😊
Less is more sometimes. My father once told me... Love the channel and your legacy. Thank You
Tim, thank-you and man--even knowing that you have a full plate--please, pretty please share more 'Divide by 13' stories. I've binged everything you have here on that topic....more, more, more please Sir! Hearing great players on their 13s live; priceless! All the best from PDX!
You never fail to amaze! Tim is the MAN!
@timpierceguitar It’s pure magic watching your hands flying on the fretboard, with a smile. Thanks! 🔥
Thanks for sharing these stories, Tim. Amazing what you’ve done. And that’s a beautiful Heritage!
Wow, Thank you, Tim. Such brilliant and encouraging observations. “Limitations create character and style.”
This has rung a Big Bell in me. "Share a Feeling" you said so well. Thank You.
tim, your solo in Runaway nails it and it is such a melodic and appropriate solo. glad that you did this to get Bon Jovi started. thanks for sharing this story.
Totally amazing. Never knew this. Awesome constructed solo on this song. You are a true treasure of a guitar player. Thank you Tim.
Another great video full of wisdom about the nuances of guitar playing. Thanks Tim for making this art understandable. I'm noticing a change in my playing and even better other people are noticing. I'm always amazed with your generosity to share your expertise.
What an iconic solo! I knew I could hear your brilliance on that tune! You are a legend, Tim.
You know, I never took the time to thank you for taking the time to do these. I know it’s a big commitment. Keeping it simple is the game. I don’t make a living from playing guitar but I do indulge in the pleasure of the power chord. Thank you!
My favorite solo in a Bon Jovi song, wow didn’t know you did that one too. Thanks for sharing man !!!
That is so cool Tim. Your playing helped shape rock history!! You are a fantastic player and a humble guy. It's no wonder to me how you got such great gigs. I wish more guys were like you. You, Neil, and Luke are my 3kings!
What a history you have. Bad thing is, I have just as much bad decisions you have great events. Sometimes I wish I could start over, but I'm glad that there's people like you in this world. The Rock that you have given us is more important, beautiful, inspiring than you will ever know. Thank you for everything, and God bless
Wonderful playing and it’s so cool to hear the stories behind the scene.
Tim, i want to thank you for sharing your art. I love your guitar playing and think you are one of the best guitarists, ever.
That solo is one that I have always loved since the 80's! Love that your playing the Heritage, I have both a Custom Core H-150 and an H-535.
What an awesome lead that we all know so well. I had no idea you did that lead but thank you Tim for being such a good friend to all us wannabe players half as good as you. You have every right to have a big ego but you're down to earth as they come and you help us so much! Words can't express our appreciation for what you do.
Always fun to hang out. Great advice. Much respect Tim...
Tim, I am just blown away! That is a great story. I am almost not surprised. Always helpful. Always humble.
Tim, Thank you very much for this channel and all the classes you make for us all. Every time I get in a rut as a player - I watch Tim Pierce videos… Your smile and amazing playing puts on a fast track every time! God bless you, Sir…
Thank you so much appreciate the comment :-)
Love the story Tim and had no idea that you played guitar on that song. Fabulous work on that one man!
Thanks Tim, you always provide interesting video content, and have a natural demeanor that is more at my pace. So many videos where the hosts are in a hurry to play at 90 mph these days. Your experiance shines through.
Tim, such a cool, creative solo and awesome tune! Thanks for sharing your story man!
And that tough part of the solo...I can only imagine how difficult that would be on stage with the lighting shifting and all!
Just recently listened to this song - it stays on my personal 80’s playlist indefinitely! What a surprise - it was your great playing all along! 👍
thanks for another great day with this session
I’d love to see/hear more stories about different songs you played on.
Hi Tim! I found you through Marty Schwartz and your passion for the guitar is awe inspiring. I love your stories and only wish I had a 16th of your talent, but keep on sharing your wisdom/stories/whatevers with us👍🏼👊🏼
I could rave all day how valuable each of your vids is, but Tim, when you mentioned relearning The Rain Song I completely can relate! Last summer played that tune like 3-5 times daily after spending the time learning it. Holidays came, now I couldn’t tell you the tuning let alone the first chord fingering, back to the woodshed my favorite place! 😂👏
Absolutely top bloke and player...the fact that he's happy to share ..giving us gold ...thank you Tim !
This just made me feel good! What a great story to tell! Runaway was the first song I (kind of) figured out by ear on my first Marshall. I had Fender amps and just didn't have the right distortion for Rock tunes. Thank you for making my day! Rock on! 🤘👍🎸
This has been a wonderful and very comprehensive video Tim. I really appreciate it. Thank you.
Very cool. Great to see another guy that doesn't have the truss rod covers on. I adjust mine often like Tim, especially with all the crazy weather we have in WNY.
I'm a visual artist, and all these tips, and life advice surprisingly translate to painting and drawing as well... all creative areas really.
Tim is the most positive guitarist on RUclips. Right up there with Paul Davids. Must be like being with two executive flight attendants when they are in a room together. He even describes his Prog Rock looks (my words not his) as being not the right fit for Bon Jovi. Hilarious!!!
"Like being with 2 executive flight attendants"???????
Love your phrasing Tim. Next level!
This guy has been there done that, I never knew. Thank you sir for sharing your knowledge. Makes me want to pick up my guitar and play.
Fantastic Tim ❤️🤟🏼⚡️ I remember you teaching me some parts of that solo back in ‘89 ✨
Hey Tim, great video. Really interesting and what a story. 'Please Come Home For Christmas' song is fantastic, one of the best modern christmas songs. It is really nice that Jon contacted you about the MusiCares gig. Cheers Tim - your videos are excellent.
Wayne Gretzky with one side of his hockey jersey tucked in his pants, Eddy Van Halen’s cigarette burns on the headstock, Tim Pierce’s missing truss rod cover. Classic!!!
I am a MasterClass Member. I find that I can go at it and at my own speed. It is so comprehensive and complete and worth every penny spent. Tim has such an upbeat personality that learning is made enjoyable, never a grind.
Hi...does his master class have a path to learn?
Tim….love your playing and your humbleness……such wonderful talent. Thanks for all that you do for the world of guitar players.
Thank you very much!
Man, I loved that so much. Wish I’d been here for the live show. I’ve been playing for ahem, 35 years and i learnt some from you. Some that I knew, and some that I didn’t know that I knew too. Now, subscribing and signing up for the Masterclass because I know I’ve more to learn.
Oh Tim, whaat?! After 40 years I discover you were the guitar man! That's amazing. I've just gone to my vinyl collection and pulled out the 12" single I've owned since release in 1984. I'm stunned and impressed, and now more knowledgeable :) Great job man.
Thanks for all your great content!! All The Best from Denmark
Brilliant video as always Tim thank you 😊
I’m sure there’s a lot more music, of which I’m unaware you may have played on, but this was one of the songs of my youth! I’m so impressed Tim! Thanks for sharing this information! I love all this behind-the-scenes stuff!
Such a cool story and killer solo! Thanks Tim!
When I heard that runaway solo, I thought and still think it was one of the most brilliant pieces of playing I had ever heard and I had to find out who the guitarist was. That is how I found out about you and found your RUclips channel. IMO, you should be in the hall of fame for that one. Really ripping playing, Tim.
Tim is one of the best guitarists you'll ever see and one of the most down to earth and unpretentious people I have seen making RUclips content. I wish I could play guitar half as well as he does.
Love his style, taste, and choices, versus a blur of notes. Excellent!
"Limitations actually create character and style"... I think I kind of needed to hear that, even as long as I've been at this and as many times as people have told me they recognize my playing right away, I still find myself chasing things that I can't do to the point of utter distraction, and feeling like I have to learn EVERYTHING. Thanks for that one @TimPierceGuitar ❤
Tim I wish for just one minute that I had your talent. I think you truly unbelievable buddy
What a treasure of recorded and music history, as a historian you match your playing ability. To have both in a single pass is remarkable. I am obviously a new viewer but you made my visit one that will be repeated. Your teaching style and orientation is refreshing and is exemplary of what art and music education should be pursuing.
So cool. What a tasteful player. And a great story. Love it.
I had to watch Bon Jovi Slippery when Wet at the Stanley Theatre in Pittsburgh,
Just to see John Cougar Mellancamp, to hear " Ain't even done with the Night"
Tim its so awesome to see you still playing rick Springfield success hasn't spoiled me yet was the first record i ever owned as a kid . Thank you tim for the awesome music you have given us.
Great video Tim! I love how you say “limitations create style”… and some folks remember songs better than others etc.. I need to work on most songs 100x 😂
Ha! That solves a big mystery! I had it in my head that Aldo Nova did the solo on that song. Juicy trivia, thanks for sharing!
"Your limitations create your style" - Tim Pierce -- Thanks for doing these videos man ✌
Never cease to amaze me. I don't understand why it took me so long to learn about you. Guitar God!
People generally don't know about Tim Pierce because he doesn't market himself as the absolute monster rock star that he actually is. Some people pose until they make it, Tim Pierce just quietly does his job and doesn't make a whole lot of fuss about it after the fact. That's a real player, that's REAL "punk rock"
Thank you Tim for that awesome song , one of my favorites classics of the 80 s . Awesome solo by the way also one of my favorites. Runaway for Bon Jovi is like the spirit of radio for rush.
Always interesting content thanks Tim. Loved that you played with Rick Springfield. I had every album in the 80s.
Probably saw you with Rick Springfield ... Toledo, Ohio 83. Great Show
Tim - I love the way you described the brilliance of Hendrix. How amazing he was! People today have no idea what actually made him a fantastic guitar player because they concentrate so much on the technique and not enough on the feel.
Tim, that’s an amazing story. I have always said that was one of the most “killing it solo” in history. Great story buddy.
It is great hearing about your history and the different things you have done over the years
