Like Melissa's comment below, I also have been sewing for over 50 years and I still enjoy watching good sewing videos. I found your tutorial to be very informative and very thorough and enjoyable to watch. Thank you! 🙂
I have sewn for over 50 years and have watched many videos. You have a real gift for this. Your voice is pleasant and calm, your lighting is great, the split screen showing the techniques up close was very helpful and your suggestions regarding correct pressing and sewing methods were spot on for beginners and more experienced sewers alike. Thank you very much for sharing this video.
Thank you, Melissa! That is so kind of you to say! :) These are some of my very first videos ever - and I feel like I'm still figuring things out a bit, so getting such wonderful feedback is fantastic! Thank you again! Many more videos to come!
Dear Crissy, I can't thank you enough for creating and posting this fantastic video instructions for the ES Clyde workpant! I sew a section at a time while going back to your video. Your step- by- step easy to understand video tutorial is far better than any written set of instructions. I've made two pair using your video and also watching Sewing Therapy Clyde tutorial videos on youtube. I love these pants as they are so easy to pull on and go. I used cotton canvas fabric in a natural cream and a tobacco brown from Hobby Lobby. Love your videos!! Thanks so very much!!
You are an absolute born teacher! You answered every issue that always leaves me feeling insecure when sewing - thanks for all of the great technique tips. I am really looking forward to seeing more installments. And I'm subscribing! I know a good number of sewists have used the Palisade Pants pattern from Papercut Patterns to approximate this design (it is its own kind of fabulous!), but I'm glad to see the original available and explained so well. Quick question. While constructing the pocket and side panel your video has the caption correction of a 3/8" SA. Is that only applicable to that portion - as later you mentioned 1/2" several times when explaining the rest of the steps/seams without a caption correction. :-) . Peace.
Jennifer - thank you so much for such a lovely compliment! You made my day! For your question - just the top and bottom of the pocket are 3/8". All of the other seams are 1/2"! :)
Um this was fantastic. I love your calm, informed style. I subscribed and can’t wait to watch more! Also would have loved to see what these pants look like on
Oh my goodness, thank you so much! I do have a photo of me wearing the pants on my Instagram feed in this post - instagram.com/p/CCT8GTuAshU/ I also adjusted the pattern to make a pair of shorts in this post instagram.com/p/CChCVrjADl2/.
@@stitchcollective8329 Thanks for linking! I actually love the pants on you! But we all know what we prefer so I'm glad you made a pair of shorts. Thanks again for the great tutorial! Looking forward to more
I just made the Itch to Stitch Belize shorts which have many similar elements. Your tutorial is so helpful. I'm looking forward to learning more from you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent!
@@stitchcollective8329 I also tried your method of sewing without pins. Fantastic! I've never seen this method before and it really helps to control the fabric. I love it!
Should have watched this before I created my toile. As per another video, I actually trimmed off the edges of the pocket. I found the instructions to be not particularly clear and several times I had to really think about what was going on. I'd consider myself a beginner so perhaps this was ambitious. Anyway, happy with the result though now I need to look up how to adjust for a full seat 😬 Thanks for providing such a clear video. Will return to view when I create my final Version!
Thank you so much for doing this video, having the construction laid out like this really gives me the birds eye view I need to get going. Speaking of birds eye view, it is very very helpful that you have two angles (and if you don't mind, Id love to know how you managed to sync those two angles?).
Hi! My husband helps me edit the videos so I don't know the specific settings for this - but I do know that he syncs the two video feeds in Adobe Premiere!
Wonderful Video...thank you! Downloaded/donated to a good cause back when these great patterns were offered. Just getting to making these pants. QUESTION: I'm fascinated by your pressing technique...pressing open and then to the correct side. As a newish clothing sewist, could explain the benefit/function please? As quilter, it's usually either/or, not doing both presses to a seam. The more I learn about sewing, the more I realize how these tips/tricks are so useful to the beauty of a finished garment. Thank you!
Oh this is such a great video! I'm searching for a jumpsuit version of this to follow as I'm a very very very beginner in sewing. For my first garment I thought I'd jump in the deep end and make the Burnside bib lol. Could i somewhat follow this video to make the jumpsuit?
Thank you so much! :) I do use this often! I also use a modified version of this technique, where I serge the elastic directly to the pants and then fold down and topstitch. I have a mini tutorial of that on my Instagram here, if you're interested! instagram.com/p/CCjcgShgmZh/
This is so great! I finally want to dive into these patterns but...I must have some other version because I don't have the sizing information! I know these patterns aren't open source anymore but...do you know of anywhere where I might be able to find this sizing information (it's not on the website anymore). I also only got the crazy professional versions that aren't standard A0 or print at home sizes so I'm a bit stumped there...I somehow missed the versions that people modified for this. 🙈
Hi Becky!! Unfortunately, I don't have a sizing chart any longer. In my tutorials, I'd been linking to the sizing charts on the ES website, but those have been taken down. My recommendation would be to Google 'Elizabeth Suzann size chart' - I know some folks have pinned images of the charts on Pinterest, etc and you could hopefully find some helpful info that way for the short term! Until Liz releases her home sewing patters (which sounds like it will be pretty soon!) I don't know of a great resource to point you to.
Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing it. I’m new back to sewing after a brief 30 year break. 😏 I have the Clyde pattern but I’m wanting to make the jumpsuit. Do you have a tutorial for the full jumpsuit? If not do you know if there is a video tutorial or written instructions I can access? Thank you 😊
Hi Mary! I don't have a tutorial for the full jumpsuit yet. I don't think there are any video tutorials available right now, but if you scroll to the bottom of this post on Yay Stitch, there is a roundup of all of the known tutorials for each pattern! yaystitch.com/blogs/news/elizabeth-suzann-sewing-patterns
Hi Jennifer! For deciding on a size - you can check on this sizing chart on the Elizabeth Suzann site elizabethsuzann.com/pages/sizing-guide. There's also a sizing chart in the PDF files for the patterns. :) I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!
Have you tried cutting the pattern, yet? If so, how easy/difficult did you find trying to follow the right cutting line? I am having a real tough time of it. I’m trying to trace the line before cutting, but there are spots, like the back leg section, that I’m super frustrated by.
Hey Krissy! (sp?) And Sew On just did a video on these free patterns and said there wasn't tutorials. I'm gonna hop back and tell people, Oh yes there is! This is great. Thanks! (@mystashislegal)
Hi Jodie! Thank you for letting people know!! That is so sweet of you! I can't wait to meet up again once we're able to have in-person Seattle sewing groups back in session!
Thanks for all the tips. I just have one question how can I decrease the size for the hips it's too wipe than my hips. Thank you so much I hope anyone can answer.
How were you able to sew the pocket facing and side panel together? My facing was much wider than the side panel? I've cut everything else out and I have everything else ready, please help?
Hi Kat, I'm at the very same step at this point and wondering the same thing. It looks as though she matched the edges of the fabric even though they weren't the same width. I hope you found a solution.
I just looked at the ES website where, if you look at the reviews, there are some photos of completed pants. It does look like the side pocket is not made to fit flat against the pocket bag. I hope this helps.
I see the link for the free pattern is 'not found'. I see that others have had no issues, so, I'm wondering if you could pass along a tip and or trick so I can download it? thanks so much.
I believe from another vloger that the free pattern link has been removed and she plans on releasing them later in the year. I unfortunately didn’t get them in time either but if you know someone that did I believe it’s fine to share them within the sewing community. Good luck
