- Throughout his career, John Goodenough established himself as an internationally prominent solid state scientist, widely recognized for his role in the development of the rechargeable Li-ion battery.
He was interviewed on Oct. 5, 2016 by ECS Executive Director, Roque Calvo in Honolulu, HI at PRiME 2016, the largest meeting of it's kind for electrochemists and solid state scientists and engineers. - Наука
I emailed Mr. Goodenough to tell him I'm a big fan of his and to thank him for his work in batteries and he actually responded the other day. I'm psyched!
That's awesome! John goodenough is one of my favorite inventors... I wonder if he likes MMA... God bless the omniverse multiverse universe heroes champions inventors... I must search for his email... Emanuel is champion
"God bless the omniverse multiverse universe heroes champions inventors" Are you on meth?
He's a rock star. I love that laugh.
Where can I research more about this man? I'm diving in to researching his life.
@@bradyedge8613 The University Of Texas is where he is doing his research.
I have had the rare privilege of attending Lectures of Prof JB Goodenough and Prof Menyuk for three weeks at the Indian Institute of Technology during 1972 summer arranged by Prof CNRRao. Prof Goodenough’book on mahnetism in chemistry was like Bhagavadgita for us and we often reserved the book in TIFR/ BARC libraries till I retired from BARC in 1995. That book was referred to in five of my publications. I am ever grateful to John even today at the age of 83. I have great respect for him and he deserved his Nobel prize decades back.

Professor John Goodenough is without a doubt an extraordinary man. Thank you for posting this interview.
Congratulations to the Nobel Prize professor Goodenough. You had deserved it and it was long overdue!
Thanks for recording this excellent interview. Mr Goodenough is an example to us all. Great job everyone.
Wonderful role model display for us all. Dr. Goodenough is a true hero to me.
Sir
We thank you and entire teams for valuable contribution to the world of Science, Social Science and demonstrating importance of fundamental Sciences in the field of Engineering and technology
This man is as good a reason to “not leave students behind” as anyone.
Image him being dyslexic in today’s school system? He’d have never made it. How many Goodenough’s are seen as not goodenough today?
I am so glad I listened to your interview Sir!
Life lessons here to be learned, don't give up even if you lack talent, don't let the failure to become what you dreamed of make you think you're not going to make a contribution. He changed the world while failing multiple dreams of football glory, being a high level lawyer or a prominent physicist. Just because you're not the smartest person in the room, doesn't mean you will bring less value.
Thanks Team, Johns laughter was priceless !!
i love this guy he laughs all the time and his laughter is contagious i think he smoked a fat one XD
Real contribution
Goodenough inspires so many people who understand the energy makes it possible to manipulate matter & that more energy + energy storage will unlock renewable energy technology to replace oxidizing carbon for heat & power in mobile energy systems : that battery electric vehicles solve the tailpipe emissions problems for which the dieselgate debacle is emblematic. Nissan & Tesla showed the world that BEV's are the future of personal mobility!
Oh man, at about 16:30 some professor says to him by the age he wanted to get in graduate school he was a veteran and that he was starting late, people by his age already did something that was interesting. What a bucket of cold water. But still after 3y from this recording of this interview he won a Nobel Prize. Guess is never too late to do something important.
solid state batteries will be the heart of future transportation.
That's so cool. I stayed in the (german) army for 12 years and want to make the bachelor grade at mechatronics.
Well, Dr. Goodenough is a good role model.
Very nice man . Thank You Virgil Graham
thank you for sharing this . from Higganum CT USA
Not clear how I got to this interview but it is interesting...and important.
John B. Goodenough what a majestic name
luxannna crownguard Inspiration for the song Jonny B Good.
It is fabulous that he finds everything basically comedy, and mostly laughs.
Weareallbeingwatched the fountain of youth my good friend!
Congratulation to you I just discovered you and you impress me a lot
First at your age you look in a so good shape! It's amazing!
Second : you made so big contributions to science
Third : you look so humble and charismatic
Thanks for this video!!!
94 and rocking a fashionable pink shirt... goals.
He won the Royal Society Copley medal, the world oldest science medal, and maybe the world most prestigious science medal.
He should by now have received the Nobel price for something! ;-) He certainly does not look or talk like 94! And, looking at his hands, you can tell, he lives healthy!
now, he does
He got his Nobel prize!
I hope he gets the due credit for his new battery inventions
Nobel prize winner finally.
Does anyone know what a hexagonal closed-back lattice is? 22:24
Fantastic interview!
This was enlightening! Good stuff
Miguel Fajardo Would you call it "Good enough?"
Just one word : LEGENDARY
The man is a GOD! Be like
John B GODenough
We hope you will treat the Nobel Prize committee to a volley of your mad-scientist giggle
Listen to the moments when his voice is high to where he is speaking softy. It tells you something. From beginning to end.
Tanner Schier pulverized nanometer sized glass/ceramic graphene sodium/lithium battery. Finally foldable!
Thx for the laugh Mr. GOODENOUGH😅
How can someone invest in his Glass battery technology?
Elon
Inspirational
John seems like a good guy. Looks so healthy for his age!
My god, he's more than Goodenough! His laugh is infectious!
53:00 solid state battery?? / glass batteries
24:20 RAM
32:20 batteries
Brilliant.
I am atheist BUT I realy like his comment Good is Love. That must be true.
Man everyone talks about how inventing the lithium and solid state battery made this gentleman a rockstar but what about his contribution to the invention of RAM (random access memory).
Old People Love telling stories....Live a Life you will enjoy telling the story of
ICONIC
Amazing!
Rip goodenough ❤
I watched his laugh again and again 😃
HE SOUNDS LIKE ALICE IN WONDERLAND ! KEEP WONDERING , WONDERING !!!!
how good is John Goodenough?
i turns out he is..... preeety good
I understood that reference
Everybody say John b good enough yes he is good enough did u hear me say John b good enough good enough boys in the house everybody say John b good enough John b b b good enough say it with me everybody say John b Goodenough JJ John b Goodenough say it with me everybody
plz add subtitle because i cant hear and understud well english.
Genius!!
Love to hear this guy laughing.
MARIA HELENA BRAGA IS THE INVENTOR. SHE IS FROM PORTUGAL.
Yea yea OK.
She did all the work and didn't study under him, right?
The credit is to be shared.
Interesting character.
“Find your own style” = create a world where mistakes are not punished too harshly. This is where liberal societies may take the lead over dogmatic and oppression of risk takers
Those are incredibly large chairs.
so now it is only a matter of impedance in the plated out lithium or sodium and the trick will fly. hmmm maybe bragga will get it or john. maybe he will get the nobel he deserves. I would think since the water she added being desiccated out would finally get the impedance it needs reduced through another heat treatment after battery function was produced for a few hrs.
I like to interview Detroit has the largest salt mines in the country maybe we can start industry here
Came here right after the news
So... a five pound 48 volt Kw battery pack for my ebike!? That would Rock.
As a german who often watches scientific content in english i can say that it is true.
Especially ted talkers....XD (happens everywhere also in germany)
AND those creepy women voices.... this croaking when the woman gets silent at the end of sentences and they start finding themselves very sophisticated.... XD
His name sounds like he's Johnny B. Goode grown up
Stanford Ovishenky was a battery pioneer too. don't know if this guy is taking his credit or they were teammates
The man himself is as extraordinary as his mind and his ideas in it. I wish we had a way to quickly improve humanity by using the genes of people like him to create the next generation. I know I'd gladly give my life up if it could provide the "space" for people like him who actually solve problems and not just write reviews and comments as I do. I think for humanity to evolve, something like eugenics must be employed because a planet of idiots is doomed. I'm one of the idiots but I can see this much. In any case, such great people make me feel useless and my IQ is quite high but my genes make me sick. So I'm seriously not having kids. But why not make the next generation better with genes from better people? Let's evolve. Why not be intelligent about the future of our species? I'm not suggesting eliminating folks. Just select better genes to give birth to next time. It's too radical for the public right? As I said, it's too bad we can't breed ourselves to the next level of health and intelligence.

Be good enough, get it? B good enough? No? Ok
He may have invented the modern Battery but he's still a member of Skull and Bones.
Let's just hope he wasn't to deep into it and just focused his attention on physics
I knew it. I was like this guys name sounds like some NWO agent troll name. I bet his name is fake and his job is to be a figure head to release different levels of technology to the public. Until they are ready to get the economy off of fossil fuel. To make sure they can still regulate power in the future. They know it will be easy to make. Goodenough is a code name for what level of tech they allow us to have. Solid state batteries will be good enough for the public for now.
