I do not really know why I expected arts/crafts when every project you do is very unique and always look amazing. You say that you are no designer, but I think you have a really good eye for esthetic
Now that’s the way to work a small area of space my friend. I loved it when you flip the Miter Saw over it was like taking a Rifle out for the first dear kill.
Loved the video, loved your work area! I have two sheds here in Scotland (8x6) so it is a bit tight to fit all my electric machinery needs into the work area's! So I created 5 work tops that fit onto the main table, but it is not a patch in what you have in your work shop! I will keep watching and learning even at 70 years young! Many thanks in the wood bend/clamping! Am switched on!
I wish you had your website back in the mid 90's, when I started playing with wood. Your ideas could have saved me a small fortune in tools. I went too Gungho marine. I love the craft to this very day.
You are awesome! Your creativity always surprises me. The way you bend the wood and all your countless tricks to get the best of every thiny cm in your small shop inspires me to be always improving.
Bent wood lamination is an awesome way to use up off-cuts and scrap wood, but if you are wanting to do thus on a regular basis I would suggest using a bandsaw instead of the table saw as the saw curf is a lot thinner which would mean less saw dust and more useable strips. Hiding the cable inside the wood was a brilliant idea as well 👍
I watch this video for the first time a couple months ago and I found myself actually going to it the last four days like it was drawing me in to watch again or something LOL just watched it again for like the third time today. This is seriously so awesome it’s something simple it looks to us watching but I know it takes time and effort may be a little bit of math but definitely some measuring. I just thank you very very much for your cool ideas, you’d be amazed how much little things like this inspire people like me. Thank you so much. It’s awesome and I think the little glass lamp shade goes perfect with it.
I think it was a great overall use of scraps, and the bent laminating trick was very well executed. Plus the thing looks pretty cool! Thanks for sharing!
We all have scrap wood stored in our shop that we just don't want to part with. This was an excellent idea of how to use a single piece and produce a decorative lamp. Awesome job. This really opened my eyes to the possibilities that await me.
I like the lamp. Nice idea, a bandsaw might cut down on wasted wood from the saw kerf. But either way it was wasted wood without a home. So its still a win.
AFAIK, Jean is an electrician so he must know what he does. Anyway, most of the lamps I have in the household use only two connectors (zero and phase). There is no grounding.
I am asking here not because I want to seem smarter (I am smart enough to know that I know too little and lack experience about this electrical stuff so that there is a possibility for me to ask very stupid questions), but because my yt education in that matter made me question how it is done here. Should I be wrong I'll blame my yt-teachers, though... :D
Bend wood laminations is great idea for using off cuts. Put a piece of waxed paper between the first lamination and your jig to keep the glue squeeze out from sticking.
Or wax the face of the jig. Also wipe away the excess glue squeez out before it sets up, stops it from sticking to jig and also reduces the amount of sanding needed to get rid of it before you even touch the wood.
I like the idea of the lamp because you were going to throw the board away anyway. So you made use of it any unusual way and I like the lamination because of the hide the wire thing like you said.
Dude, I just became a fan. I am digging the work, even more - the transforming Table. I am sending this to my Facility Manager to get some great ideas. Keep inspiring amigo!
That lamp looks amazing well done 👍 I’ve got a dust bin full of scraps at most no longer that 30mm,I keep saying I’ll Chuck them on the wood burner but cannot bring myself to do it I’ve used many of them for projects where I need a small piece which saves cutting a new length
I've been binge watching Fisher's Shop, so your channel showed up on my home page today. So glad it did! Really enjoy watching carpentry and the clever plans you make to maximise your shop-space are intriguing. Looking forward to binge watching your channel today to catch up 😊
Very neat, simple project that can be extended to a lot of cool designs, thanks for sharing it! As far as waste goes, even if it weren't a scrap piece, consider what you'd have to do to get similar curves with a solid piece of wood. Talk about waste! The real trick to this is figuring out how to line up the grain so it doesn't look like it's been laminated. A buddy of mine made a floor-standing lamp using a spiral, bent lamination out of walnut. It's absolutely beautiful, and I only saw the lamina when he told me that was the technique he used.
Nice project, although you mentioned that you are not a designer, I think it got a fantastic look. Congratulations for the excellent work and for sharing it!
Just found this video. I laminate bits together, say 2x2 cm, 2x4 cm, 2x6 cm, and 4x4 cm into larger dimensions, then slice thick wafers off for cutting boards ( glue the wafers together). At the very end I will make goony bird puppets. ( with colored twine). Kids get a kick out of them at craft fairs. I admire your jigs. :)
Most people dont realize how long it takes for wood to be created. Some woods take a generation of humans to be created. I think what you did with wood scraps is very useful and decorative. It would be sad to throw away perfectly good wood if humans dont have the brains or creativity to use it.
Great little project, and good use of timber that stretches your skills. A suggestion would be one of those cool large retro incandescent bulbs in place of the the frosted lamp shade.
I think that the lamp is a brilliant idea! It reminds me of Art Deco a little bit. If I saw this in a store, I might be tempted to buy it. A lot would depend on if I had room for it.
Using a bandsaw to cut the strips saves a lot of material. But turned out as a great project for using up some scrap bin materials. I use most of mine for jigs and fixtures.
Only just found your channel a few days ago. and have now watched a lot of your video's. I like your mindset a lot, and apriciate the non music a lot. I would appriciate if you took us some more into you thoughts and design part WHY did you go for that dimension, where did you get the idea, some of you initial thoughts when you do a build, instead of "only" the build. Stay safe, and greetings from Denmark.
Really love this design! Very elegant. I like the idea of using this as inspiration and I laying an LED strip in the recess. Very cool project and awesome that it’s made from scrap. 👍🏻👍🏻
I think i might try this project myself, though i plan on avoiding the handsawing and hand sanding lol. not sure where i will get the hardware for the light though... maybe from a second hand store and break it down.
I have made Christmas presents for my grandchildren's teachers from laminated offcuts. They were clip boards made from multiple species, it looked like a rainbow. You can order the clip mechanism from amazon. Reusing the jig made duplication very easy.
Hi Jean, great to see you back! I think it was a great use of "scrap" - functional and elegant design. As has been said... you need more clamps, lotsa clamps! LOL Best wishes to you and your family for the year, may it be a blessed year! Regards, Mark (Jhb)
Really cool dude. Fact is, after each project you can keep the clamping templates for use on other projects too. Love this as it's a diversion from angular wood projects! Great job!
Besides making use of the scrap woods, It's the work bench for me... 😄 pulling out that mitre saw, inner me was like "yooohh maaaaan... 😄😄 🔥🔥 Anyways, the lamp is awesome.. Awesome set-up, great work, 💪
Please don't put yourself down, I really like the design. Plus I prefer the look of the stand at the back. If nothing else it stops annoying dust collection points!
Lovely little project mate! It doesn’t matter what other people think! As long as you are happy, that’s all that matters! 😉 I use my scrap wood for all sorts of things. I’ve made a bird table, various signs, jigs, mock up builds, or even just some slim spacers and wedges. It’s there to be used after all! Lol 👍👏👏👏
When you were playing with the strips you did a twisting motion - how would you make the clamping jig in order to glue up with that twist in it? That would be an interesting project.
You would have to do the positive- negative mold jig. As how to make a matching two part twisted jig is a bit beyond my knowledge except maybe cnc, or 3d print
Maybe I missed this in the video but what is the thickness of the strips that you're cutting? What type of wood is this? And do you have any videos of the apparatus you made for your belt sander? Or your miter saw. That's awesome how it flips up like that.
Mach was du kannst, mit dem was du hast, genau wo du bist!
This is really cute. I love watching your videos - so precise and clear. And your beautiful accent adds to the majesty.
Anything that comes from a creative mind is worth the time, effort and materials.
I was initially expecting an arts/crafts project, but as the video progressed I really enjoy the final product.
I do not really know why I expected arts/crafts when every project you do is very unique and always look amazing. You say that you are no designer, but I think you have a really good eye for esthetic

I loved it when you flip the Miter Saw over it was like taking a Rifle out for the first dear kill.
The lamp is amazing! But your work bench is genius too. WOW!
Man this is just beautiful design. Simple and elegant, don't underestimate it!

The belt sander French cleat storage /workstation is freaking genius!

You are awesome!
Your creativity always surprises me.

Nice simple project that looks great. I think it would also have looked great with no shade and an Edison bulb.
Don’t sell your design abilities short. Simple build with a very nice result.
Gorgeous little lamp and great use of scrap lumber. Recycling at its finest!
You say you're no designer. Well that is a great idea and a lovely looking lamp. Well done 👏
Dude your workbench is wizard! That was like something out of a James Bond movie.
Great (seemingly) simple project! Looking forward to a floor standing version build video

so many skills wrapped up in one simple project to not waste that scrap you can't bare to waste !
I like the design. I think it is very clever and has an elegant simplicity, with clean lines. The grommets also give it a more professional vibe.
I think it was a great overall use of scraps, and the bent laminating trick was very well executed. Plus the thing looks pretty cool! Thanks for sharing!
Some of the stuff you come up with is just amazing. Good job !
Great custom made workbench with chopsaw raising and lowering back down with a lid for flat surface to work upon .
Great lamp 👍
Great project. If you make many I would suggest coating the mold to keep them clean. Great use of scraps
Very well produced video with superb narration
Sir u did it with so much determination 🙏it's just show how u love ur work
The timber would only end up as scrap anyway, so by doing what you did is a great way to use your off cuts, great job
How we use the same u

Congratulations for your work. Its simplicity, very opportune and charming resulted product made us grateful for sharing your knowledge. Super thanks!
Great use of a piece of wood that may never have been used otherwise. Really cool design too.
I like the lamp. Nice idea, a bandsaw might cut down on wasted wood from the saw kerf. But either way it was wasted wood without a home. So its still a win.
Very beautiful lamp, amazing way to use the wood leftovers. Thanks for sharing your work with us 🙏🏼
You’re no designer but you’re good at designing lamps ! 👍
oh my gosh! you're shop set up is amazing!!!!
I would have not thought of laminating like that. What a great idea.
impressed by your sander jig, then you did some magic with your workbench drop-saw. love the setup you have there mate.
Shouldn't the lamp socket be grounded somewhere? It is metal and easy to touch and if there is a short inside...
Yes I agree! He should have grounded it on the wood 👌
AFAIK, Jean is an electrician so he must know what he does. Anyway, most of the lamps I have in the household use only two connectors (zero and phase). There is no grounding.
I am sure he is an electrician by trade so I would say he knows what he is doing
@@pjmosi4686 Nah, I was talking about the socket... :)
I am asking here not because I want to seem smarter (I am smart enough to know that I know too little and lack experience about this electrical stuff so that there is a possibility for me to ask very stupid questions), but because my yt education in that matter made me question how it is done here.

The lamp turned out very nice!
Bro your workbench is insane ! Love the thought put in to the stow away items and the french cleat sander 😁 some ace ideas on this thanks 🙏

That belt sander holder is beautiful
Then I saw the stowaway mitre saw 😍
I might try to make a larger version of this for my work bench, I love the look, and especially how you hit the wires, that's a great touch.
Dude, I just became a fan. I am digging the work, even more - the transforming Table. I am sending this to my Facility Manager to get some great ideas. Keep inspiring amigo!
making something useful is always a positive, very nice and well explained. new viewer/subscribed

Man the way u have ur shop/table setup is amazing. Wish u had a tutorial on that
Incredible result. Beautifully done. 👏🏼
your bench is awesome dude love the design with the hidden miter saw

Just in and out with the hole drillin. In and out in and out you're playin with it.
Again, the master of design!
Very nice, creative. Darlington, South Carolina USA
Nice work. A woodworker can never have too many clamps.
Nice project, although you mentioned that you are not a designer, I think it got a fantastic look. Congratulations for the excellent work and for sharing it!
Very nice work. I'm really impressed with the layout of your shop.
That miter saw setup is slick.
Great job and idea, the possibilities are endless.
Beautiful design. Elegant simple lines.
I think that looks amazing man simple yet beautiful. If you do one of these again try an led strip down the length of the strips
Great idea, love the lamp. Like the idea of hiding the cable. 👍👍👍
Just found this video. I laminate bits together, say 2x2 cm, 2x4 cm, 2x6 cm, and 4x4 cm into larger dimensions, then slice thick wafers off for cutting boards ( glue the wafers together). bet you will make more for the lamp then the scrap wood....well done, great idea for a simple and useful project
good project, i'll be checking my scrapwood box tomorrow lol
I think that the lamp is a brilliant idea! It reminds me of Art Deco a little bit. If I saw this in a store, I might be tempted to buy it. A lot would depend on if I had room for it.
Great video! The table you Built for your chop saw is ....amazing. Subscribed and exited to learn from your awesome Chanel. Thanks -kevin
Why not use the MDF you cut the half circle out of as your negative jig?
Yes, great design--simple and cute little lamp!
Using a bandsaw to cut the strips saves a lot of material. But turned out as a great project for using up some scrap bin materials. I use most of mine for jigs and fixtures.

That is a great idea and a great video! I second that belt Sander jig comment from the other guy! Awesome idea

That is beautiful! And to think it made of a scrap piece--amazing!
Gorgeous work, definitely could see that Lamp sold at a Mid Century type Interiors designer store

Simple yet elegant.
I would buy. Gorgeous, and the lamp came out beautiful as well!
You are clever. For clamping have you considered using strap clamps?
I think it was good to move the stand behind the lamp, it makes it more tidied up, as you can see the whole curve of the "main piece" :)
Really cool dude. Fact is, after each project you can keep the clamping templates for use on other projects too. Love this as it's a diversion from angular wood projects! Great job!
Now THAT, is worth making!! Thanks.
Cool idea. You going to make a mini series on scrap/off-cut wood projects you can sell?
I am playing with the idea.
skilled work. you did very well. thank you for sharing the video. very inspiring
Nice, sleek lamp. Bravo!
Besides making use of the scrap woods,
It's the work bench for me... 😄
pulling out that mitre saw, inner me was like "yooohh maaaaan... 😄😄 🔥🔥
Anyways, the lamp is awesome..
Awesome set-up, great work, 💪
I love it!! Very easy project to make use of scraps. I just never know which is the best way to cut the strips to bend them.?!
Please don't put yourself down, I really like the design. Plus I prefer the look of the stand at the back. If nothing else it stops annoying dust collection points!
Also, I think I would lose the shade and put in one of those led filament bulbs
Lovely little project mate! It doesn’t matter what other people think! As long as you are happy, that’s all that matters! 😉
I use my scrap wood for all sorts of things. I’ve made a bird table, various signs, jigs, mock up builds, or even just some slim spacers and wedges.

walk me through your workshop. very nice design

Good idea, get a small band saw for re-cutting the wood, it is much less wasteful, but as you say the wood would otherwise been thrown out.
