Hey Guys! I hope you enjoy this 2021 DIY Patio Makeover! I’m finally painting my patio pavers, building a diy patio bar, and putting together some new patio furniture to create a lounge space! I hope you enjoy these patio ideas and are inspired to try your own patio diy! 💛💛💛
Megan, I really appreciate you sharing your patio makeover ideas 💡 with all of us. Your Patio turn out to be one beautiful space. I am now motivated to do and complete my own patio and have started with refurbishing my mother’s antique cast iron dining table which turned nicely. I will be building a couch, and refurbishing a swing, picnic table and old Adirondack chairs. Whew!!!! I have a plethora of other do to projects that I will be working on it may time to complete, but I will get it done. Again, Thank you so much. God bless. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️❤️❤️
I agree, it was so touching to hear how much you value him. And I'm sure he feels the same way about you!!! 🥰😍 I always appreciate your hindsight advice! It's always genuine and transparent!!! Xo
Just came to comments as she invited solution ideas in comments- I wanted to see if any given. AND saw your comment🧡....it was exactly my thoughts....love that she appreciates and comments on her husband.
You and your husband are so loving towards each other. Never forget that love and take it for granted. This life is way too short. I love your patio ideas and my husband of 41 years and I are about to tackle something really similar. Thanks for giving me the ideas and that sweet little ode to your husband. They are so wonderful to have around and they love us no matter what. Most of the time. LOL. 👍🏼🤍
I would make another shorter “bar top” for over the frig, using shelf brackets instead of the cinder blocks (but keeping it the same height) moving the frig out of that corner and putting it against the wall that has the hose spigot. That would protect it from the rain, give you a place to put stuff that goes into the frig, etc. and provide a cohesive look. Good job, you two.
I agree but leave it in the corner and just make a corner shelf. It will be helpful to have a shelf there to put stuff on to bring out or going back in the house when y’all are eating on the patio.
@@lovinglifeasmegan I would put an awning onto the back side of the patio area to not only keep the refrigerator covered but that other bar area as well. It can be decorated to match your other decor look really nice and keep your family dry if coming in and out if raining.
30 Seconds outdoor cleaner cleans removes algae, mold and mildew from anything outdoors, different size bottles. I've used the one that can attach to a garden hose. I spray on wait 30 second. Then spray off with water, of course follow the package directions. Bought at Lowes. I've used this produced many times. It does an excellent job.
To cover the fridge, just put a shelf over it or a corner like table that’s a little higher and little wider over it... it can be used as an xtra counter space or put a beautiful plant pot on it
We are retired and live on a very strict budget, so I totally understand. It's amazing what learning the difference between a "want" and a "necessity" is and go accordingly. I have to say that those "wants" are not missed!! The patio is amazing!
This space is definitely a “want” but there’s nothing wrong with saving up money over time to be able to make the dream a reality. 😊 that’s the beauty of living on a budget, it gives you so much freedom to have your needs & your wants!
All of that power washing was so satisfying! I think my favorite part was refinishing the patio pavers! Well done, you two! The decor is gorgeous as well. XO
You did a gr8 job...I just love it! All your hard work paid off! Do you happen to know what tree or bush is planted in your back yard? You guys have so much privacy. We would like to also but the rabbits keep destroying what we plant. I love the way it looks so lush and green. Thank you!
I absolutely love this patio makeover! It is so beautiful. I also love your honesty in talking about your budget and how the paint wasn’t in the budget last year. This is only the second time I have watched you but it certainly won’t be the last.
Thank you! I try to always be as honest & encouraging as possible. 💛 it’s easy to feel restricted by your budget, but I prefer to feel freedom in it 💛💛
Megan, granny hugs an thank you !! My new apartment is nearly done. All I have left is move my china hutch from storage. Your tips have helped me have an organized tidy home I love. At nearly 70, this will be my last home.
It’s such a shame that the first thing you would notice is what we didn’t do, and not what we did do. Painting the steps to match would be a safety hazard.
@@lovinglifeasmegan I'm not sure it was a negative criticism , with the power wash work, it wasn't hard to notice 'those little bits' especially from the camera angle. Maybe you could do the stairs the same colour as the bars tops xx You defo got a 🥳🥳🥳 bargain with furniture AND the egg 🤑🤑🤑 My yard is too small for it, but want to get a rug similar pattern to yours. You both work very well together x
Loved your vid. My husband just did this same thing for a bar/TV stand for me on our patio!!! We also did the same with the patio pavers and painted it gray. I did go with a stone look alike vinyl on the patio because it is covered and he glued that down. Besides I did not have enough to do a real stone slate job. I am budgeting for that in the future. Oh, Derrick needs to purchase a hand truck/dolly to move stuff around. My husband and I are older with bad backs. lol. You all definitely need that dolly in the yard and moving stuff around especially those blocks. Every home needs a hand truck/dolly.
It’s refreshing to hear people be financially considerate of themselves. I have a couple projects around my moms home I want to tackle when the disposable funds get there.
You never cease to amaze me. You and Derek did an awesome job on your patio makeover. It looks absolutely beautiful. You and Derek are so blessed to have each other… team work makes the dream work 🤗
Love this makeover! Very cool. The only thing I was thinking though is how about butting up the bars so there isn't a space between them? I think that would be a more finished look.
@@lovinglifeasmegan I don't think I explained that correctly. I meant building a " cabinet" or cubby that you could slide the fridge into. Not to set on top of it or anything, but just a protective barrier. Like a smaller form of what you had, plus it will give you another table top in that corner. 🤷🏻♀️
Your patio looks awesome!!!!! If and when you can, string up some patio lights, you can add some posts into some large planters, fill with some cement to hold the posts in place, then add some rocks, or add dirt/ soil to plant some flowers or fun grass. Put up a large corner shelf with brackets over the refrigerator to keep the rain off it, put plants and an outdoor speaker if needed. ENJOY.
Soo looking forward to this video, your last patio makeover is when I started watching your chanel, and have been hooked since, you are inspiring, and I love your content!
Try building a triangle wooden shelf over the refrigerator matching your bar tops. You can use it to keep your bar wear glasses or serving platers for your guests. Stain it the same as bar tops. You can even place some potted plants on top to add color.
Great job!! Everything looks aesthetically pleasing “but”, the concrete that shows beneath or the lower part of the house needs to be painted or power washed. Just saying 😉
I agree and being OCD, I also noticed the area behind the steps could have been power washed for a more complete and thorough washing of the structure, even though the area was eventually hidden once the steps were replaced.
Gorgeous!!! For around your fridge, maybe have it sit on some of the painted cinderblocks and make a weather proof surround (wood or deck boards) might work. (Not sure!!) Good luck and you and your hubby did a beautiful job :)
Megan & Derek: You may want to think about triangular "sails" for both shade & cover. They have a large grommet in each tip (so, 3 each sail). They are anchored, tied off with rope--to, either poles sunk into the ground, and/or into large "eyes" screwed into your house siding. They come in several colors or neutrals, & are very sturdy & weather-resistant. And, they look cool & perform well.
Suggestions Paint steps, paint under siding to patio floor, raise refrigerator by using cinder blocks and paint them. You can take 4- 4x4 s put a wrap around top, add a piece of plywood on top of wrap around for a ceiling to protect refrigerator. Your patio looks fantastic
This is why your my favorite channel!! Your so talented and I love how you save for your DIY projects!!, may I suggest getting the fridge off the ground? May be on a layer of cinder blocks to protect the bottom of it. And paint your entry stairs the same color as your cinder blocks. Love what you did with your patio
I love your realistic attitude and staying on YOUR budget, and living within your means. I like nice spaces but all on a modest budget and I love 💕 everything you guys did. Thank you 🙏 for keeping it REAL.
You could get this deck kites..they come in many differt sizes and colors..we just used pvc pipes in garden size pots or mounted the hooks on the roof you could do that and anythg not near the house get a nice size pot pour some rock at pot, pour in cement..all but a few inches to top...once PVC pipe is secure in concrete you can add dirt if you want to plant plants for colour or just finish with mulch...then you can run outdoor light strings along the edge of the kite...looks cozy and lights up your bar
It looks SUPER! All of that hard work and saving $$ was worth it! I had an A/C unit on a patio at one house. I built a simple frame and covered with a lattice panel that you can buy as a large sheet. It definitely hid the monster, couldn't do much about the noise, but it sure looked better ! When you power washed the rug, I could just imagine you going back to do the driveway, afterward! That's how I used to get when we got ours out! We bought a round, rotating brush at Lowes for the driveway. It saves hours! It looks even nicer if you go over it lightly with the regular nozzle after you use the rotating brush.
I’ve thought about doing that and then also hanging hooks on it to use for swimsuits & towels. We have a major repair happening to that unit next week though, so I didn’t see any point in covering it until after it’s fixed
At my current house, I bought a picket fence section at the hardware store to hide two AC units on the side of the house ( exposed to neighbors drive) later I added braces, so it would sit on the patio, and moved it to side of garage by the pool. It worked great for hanging towels and wet suits without any hooks. We put hanging brackets on back to hang pool brush and net horizontaly and put pool noodles/floats behind it.
You are such a dear person. I like your style and the fact you save for your make over projects and you keep it real. Thank you for sharing. I know it is not easy to make these videos. Having all the camera angles would drive me crazy LOL. May God Bless you and your family. Enjoy your new patio make over.
Beautiful and functional patio space. An idea for your fridge would build a wooden corner cover, almost like what you built over your w/d. Then decorate! You are so talented.
Your patio is gorgeous! Yes you are very lucky to have help. My husband works alot that he doesn't have time to help with things. He hired a handyman that comes to help me out. I even had to hire a gardener. Thank you for sharing a motivating video.
Loved your make over. If you ever need a good cleaner for siding or concrete/deck this recipe is a great ones just mix it up a d out i. A pump sprayer. Cleaning recipe for deck and Siding: 3 qts water 1qt Clorox 1/2 cup liquid tide 1/2 cup mr clean liquid
Buy a large rectangle sail/shade cloth to cover entire area. Attach to house and cement 4x4 post in half barrels with dirt and flowers on top of cement to secure lawn post. Mine is almost 5 years old now.
You’ve done a terrific job. Everything looks great. My suggestion for the refrigerator would be to get an outside air conditioning cover. That might work well. I do have one concern with regards to your bars. If the cinderblocks are not attached to each other, my concern would be if someone is leaning too hard on the end the whole Bar could topple over possibly hurting someone.
Absolutely gorgeous! I love that it's so comfortable and draws you in to sit and chat! For that mini fridge I would wrap it in the same wood as the bar tops and stain to match so it's protected and it's cohesive. Overall fantastic job!
Hey Megan I remember the first one you did last year work your patio. I definitely love it how since you gotten new furniture and did some dyi things to make it more functional for you. Also Derek is the best I can't believe that he will drop whatever he is doing and help you out.
This is actually the 3rd patio makeover I’ve done. 😳 if you go back & watch them all in order…you can really see how my skill level & decor tastes have improved! 🤗
Hang a sail over the fridge. They do this in Arizona all the time. They are three-cornered already and make shade and protection for whatever is underneath them! Just an idea! Patio looks great btw!
I personally want to say THANK YOU for sharing everything you all did with all of us. Was alittle worried in regards to how much content would still be shared and this was by far AMAZING GIRL!!!
@@lovinglifeasmegan yes I agree!! I bet Y’all are going to enjoy this stress free set up!! I love your channel and thank you for taking time out to respond to me! Yay!! Go Megan!!
I am trying to do this too. I have pavers half grown over with weeds. I am going to try to weed wack it clean , lay down a rug and I have a umbrella table. (Cheap) with resin chairs. I LOVE YOUR CHAIR!!!! And I definitely need a table / bar too. ( I don’t drink but I could use it as a counter). I would love to get those stand up wooden Outdoor wall dividers with bottom planters to enclose the area on one side. ( they stand alone)
So perfect... That egg chair is the cherry on top👌. Idk if u have any issue with your pavers moving around or weeds growing between them or debris getting stuck but if so there's a product you pour over it like sand and sweep into the cracks then wet it down with the hose and it acts as grout and fills and stabilizes the pavers. And they still will come up just as easily when you wanna remove them. Just a FYI tip
@@lovinglifeasmegan I DIY paved my patio too a couple years ago didn't really level or use sand but did use the paver set product and it's great and has held up for two years so far. Just a thought no pressure. Love your DIYs❤️👌
Great job, you and your husband did a marvelous job. I enjoyed watching your video and got some great ideas from you. Have a wonderful blessed day, Linda
Looks great, good job guys! It's wonderful to have a nice outdoor space to enjoy in the summer months with your family. Hope you make lots of great memories x
You could do the same as the bar idea around the refrigerator only make the top a triangular shape You could use the top for a small plant or to hold plates napkins silverware condiments etc when cooking out. Looks fabulous
So beautifully done! I saw a decor show they said men do not liked to be closed I. Maybe that’s why he didn’t like the egg chair? I love it all! Congratulations
You could also add a shelf to the bottom make a bracelet from the top middle supports and you can stow away the stools under there when not being used.
I would suggest an artificial hanging fern hanging in the corner between the bars. It will color that space and tie into the small table plant/rug. Hanging will soften the hard corner while leaving your bar top open. 🌿 You can find them in thrift stores, or create your own using a basket, styrofoam and silk plants.
I envy your egg. Your whole patio looks great! You might want to try an offset/cantilevered umbrella in that corner. If you got an 11 foot umbrella, it would shade most of your sitting area. I've used them for years on my patio. They last a long time, and I can't praise them enough for the shade they provide.
The power washing is sooo satisfying. I have a bunch of red brick pavers that are in my opinion kind of ugly, and we were planning to make a little patio with them. I didn't even think of painting them!!! But now I totally plan on it! Turned out great Megan!

Yes that’s the first thing I noticed, paint the cement up to your siding AND paint your steps to match!!!!

I thought about that for the fridge, but i’m just not sure how I would secure it
Nice patio area ! I love the outdoor rug and the outdoor furniture with the pretty pillows. Nice touch ! Tyfs
Thank you 😊 the rug came from Walmart & is only $44! This is our second season with it & we love it!
Love it, like the full result and especially advocating a budget ~ Well done!
Megan, I like your back yard patio great start to your makeover .
@@lovinglifeasmegan oh I bet you definitely had a blast doing all 3?
Hang a sail over the fridge. They do this in Arizona all the time. They are three-cornered already and make shade and protection for whatever is underneath them! Just an idea! Patio looks great btw!
I’ll have to look into it!
Good job giving him props. God bless!
Ahhh I love it! Looks great! So much tedious work painting those overs, I don’t think I’d have the patience. You did an amazing job!
You need to put your fridge on a shelf or table. It will look nicer and no bending to get drinks. It’s all lovely! Enjoy!
It’s way too heavy for that
Omg can you please come to NJ 😂 I am still in awe. You and your husband are a amazing team and did a awesome job on your patio makeover.
Patio looks nice and cozy. Thanks for sharing
Thanks 🤗 we’ve been loving hanging out in this space!
Love ❤️ how you budget. You were able to get something that you really wanted. Love how you and your hubby work together.
💛
I personally want to say THANK YOU for sharing everything you all did with all of us. Was alittle worried in regards to how much content would still be shared and this was by far AMAZING GIRL!!!
💛💛 no need to worry! I always try my best at everything I do 💛
I found your channel last year on the patio video, how exciting that we’ve come full circle! Your patio turned out perfect and I love the bar tops!
Thank you! I loved what we did last year, but I also feel like this year it turned out so much better! 🤗 I think we’ve found our permanent set-up!
@@lovinglifeasmegan yes I agree!! I bet Y’all are going to enjoy this stress free set up!! I love your channel and thank you for taking time out to respond to me! Yay!! Go Megan!!
Get those shade sails to cover the corner/fridge area. They come in tons of colors, sizes & a few shapes. (Triangle, square or rectangle)
Do you know how they attach?
It turned out so good. The power washing was so satisfying.
Thanks! We have been looking for any excuse to power wash lately lol
Have fun! I hope it works out for you!
Outstanding! You guys worked so hard and it really paid off! You should be very proud.
I am! We loved the way it turned out!
We have been hesitant to do that because we DIYed the pavers, so it’s not perfectly level
@@lovinglifeasmegan I DIY paved my patio too a couple years ago didn't really level or use sand but did use the paver set product and it's great and has held up for two years so far. Just a thought no pressure. Love your DIYs❤️👌
Great job and a standing ovation for hubby's help🙂🙏
🤗🤗
This gives me hope for next year when we have to rebuild our deck! And how to design the furniture! Thank you for this video.
Great job, you and your husband did a marvelous job. I enjoyed watching your video and got some great ideas from you. Have a wonderful blessed day, Linda
I’m so glad we could share some ideas that you might be able to use!
what a great hubby ... he's definitely a keeper!!
I agree 🤗
Add some outdoor candles!! ❤🤗🥰🙌 its perfect lighting for hanging on the patio at night
I have some outdoor citronella candles 😊
I Love your new make over. We mimic your last year patio make over. Thank you
I have an updated video from this Spring if you want to check it out! 😊
This is couple goals right here! They support each other and appreciate everything the other one does! 😁👍🏻
WoW Super Well Done. Your hard work completely paid off. Looks Super Nice. Egg Chair nice choice.
Thanks so much!
PATIO FLOOR LOOK LIKE BRAND NEW, I NEED TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO MINE. GOOD JOB !!!
It was definitely worth the time & effort to paint it!
This space looks beautiful and so inviting, love the goodie basket for the kids too x
I like your patio furniture. You made a lovely space.
Gray is timeless and so clean looking.
👏🏻Derek
Sail cloth
I definitely prefer that neutral look. You can do so much with it!
Looks great, good job guys! It's wonderful to have a nice outdoor space to enjoy in the summer months with your family. Hope you make lots of great memories x
It definitely is! We spend a lot of time outside it the summer & fall, so this is perfect for us to enjoy our outdoor time! 💛
You could do the same as the bar idea around the refrigerator only make the top a triangular shape You could use the top for a small plant or to hold plates napkins silverware condiments etc when cooking out. Looks fabulous
The cinder blocks aren’t the right height for that 😩
Well that reply didn't make sense. I won't be watching your channel again
So beautifully done! I saw a decor show they said men do not liked to be closed I. Maybe that’s why he didn’t like the egg chair? I love it all! Congratulations
Derek loves being cozy lol. He just didn’t like the way it looked, and didn’t think it would stand up to the weather.
Wow, the floor, lots of work but it looks amazing. Final outcome is beautiful.
It was so much work, but so worth it!
Beautiful! Just need to hang those cool looking patio lights and it's a done deal. I'd love to see a video of that...
You could also add a shelf to the bottom make a bracelet from the top middle supports and you can stow away the stools under there when not being used.
The patio doesn’t look like this anymore lol. I shared a new set up this year 😊
I would suggest an artificial hanging fern hanging in the corner between the bars.
I think we have a 9ft one, but I’ll look into the 11ft 🤗
I have seen a few diy's you have done & I feel you should be proud of every single one....another great job!
I think I get a little better each time 🤗
You are such a hard working sweetheart. I loved how everything came out. Really inspiring.
Thank you 💛
The power washing is sooo satisfying. I have a bunch of red brick pavers that are in my opinion kind of ugly, and we were planning to make a little patio with them. I didn't even think of painting them!!! But now I totally plan on it! Turned out great Megan!
Definitely try painting them! It was much easier than I thought it would be and turned out so beautifully 💛
Sometimes you have to wait until you save up the money. It’s prioritizing and you should be very proud of yourselves.
Agreed! We are 💛 thank you so much for the understanding & encouragement!
So beautiful!! What an oasis you and your Hubby have created! Yes the Egg chair they are hard to come by the item of the year for sure. 👏👏👏
They are sold out online already & we aren’t even half way through the season 😬
Beautiful 😊. I love how simple you kept everything. Great space for you and your family. Thank you to Derek for helping you with this project.
Thanks! We are so happy with how it turned out 🤗
Wow ! Looks absolutely beautiful ! Loving the furniture , especially the egg chair soooo cute !
Thank you! I love that chair! So happy I splurged on it!
You and And your husband did an amazing job on this makeover. I love it!
Thank you so much! We are really happy with how it turned out!
Turned out beautiful! I loooove the rug!! I want to do a patio makeover this year.
Do it!
