God love him -- Robert is such a trip. I absolutely LOVE this man's personality -- always thought he was one of the most personable, witty, charming frontmen of any band of any era and genre. You never hear any instance of Robert being rude or aloof. I truly believe that he feels blessed ... that he genuinely appreciates the fans and loves what he does. He just seems like a happy, kind, and good natured soul!
Back in the 70s, John Paul Jones fell asleep in bed with a transvestite with a lit cigarette in New Orleans. The hotel room then caught on fire. The band members would always poke fun at Jonesy for this embarrasing situation, hence the reason why plant made that joke. In fact, Plant wrote Royal Orleans to poke fun at jonesy of that incident. FYI Plant can play guitar.
