This was a fun find. I've been exploring the old Dragnet archive of radio stories and just felt like listening to Art of Noise out of the blue. I had no idea this existed. I have more to add to my research pile.
I loved this movie and I love Art of Noise and this is absolutely the first time I've seen this brilliant video. Kinda leaves me breathless. Gotta watch again!
@ReaktorLeak I must admit, keying is so seamless that in many shots it could have been mistaken for a real deal. I really wonder how they did that in 1987. Then again, Rybczyński is a genius and professional animator...
@@PictureProductStudio I'm not even going to attempt to pronounce that name but i take your word on his genius 😅 great song so this was an 80's take on a 60's series dun da dun dun!! 🔍🚔 keep 80's music alive CHEERS .
i think this was a few years behind 'vidtoaster', and being so sympatico with their 'fairlight' audio synths (and fairlight branched off into a 'video synth' division mid-eighties - i got to play with one in college) - i'm betting it was a fairlight the production team played with. any case, this was one of the better 'off' movies of ackroyd, + it's got 'the hanks factor' - been a long time since i've watched it! it's one of the more worthy 'not remembered much' 80's flicks.
No clue what a "Video Toaster" is, but The Art of Noise was originally a project of the legendary Trevor Horn, and TAoN totally used a Fairlight CMI sampler. In fact, they (along with Peter Gabriel) were among the first to use it.
Sure, the instruments are computerized, but the fun of low-quality MIDI samples of real instruments is that it's up to how well a song is composed for it to wow.
Love it, but can't believe they ruined the ending by slapping ads on it. What a horrible thing to do to an Art of Noise video. I assume this was perpetrated by RUclips, the same thing was done at the end of the Genesis Land of Confusion video. Gee, thanks RUclips! P.S. My wife doesn't think You Tube put the ads on the video, she thinks it was done by whoever made the video. If anyone out there knows the answer, let me know. But I still love the video.
Can you really consider 240p to be "nice quality" though? The only other official place to view the "Close (to the edit)" music videos in higher quality would be on the "(Who's Afraid of The) Art of Noise" DVD that's included on the 2011 CD reissue of the album. And besides, I'm pretty sure ZTT themselves own it and not China.
The girl is incredibly good at acting, she makes it look easy, but how she communicates through gestuality is unbelievable. And we know nothing of her.
If this the real Trevor Horn, Paul Morley or any of the memebers. NIce youtube site. You may be interested in my projects as well. I just like meeting up with cool musicians.
Seriously!
The amount of hours spent editing this back in the day must of been excruciating.
Way ahead of their time.
Green screen Galore!
This is a piece of cake compared to the other videos produced by Zbigniew Rybczynski. He was way ahead of his time.

Legs was the first song I ever heard by art of noise. I love their music.

This video was cutting edge for its time
Gloriously bonkers, always cheers me up!
My,my,my... Those days are indeed gone 😭
I love this movie .

PEP STREBEK!
Слушаю АоН ещё с конца 80-х, и я только сейчас увидел этот клип? Боже! Это же шедевр! :)
Came here for the engine revving and vehicle horn version of the song (pre-88') but not disappointed with seeing/hearing the orig again.
Almost forgot about this one. WOW!

It the best song I heard for the dragnet theme. Well! I like the group The Art of Noise👩🏽
Love this video.
Love that dog.
The four "extras" look just like the four in the "Close (To The Edit)" video. :-)
That's because it is the same four people.
Yes... Plus the Wiener Dog at the end!
...do I still have to feel guilty thinking that girl is sexy?

So NICE!!!!
So so sooooo goood
There are music videos and then there are 80's music videos.
This group was an "early adopter", who really totally learned how to use 'NewTek's' "Video Toaster". And it looks like they had a lot of fun with it.

@@KuriusOranj I first heard this song on the soundtrack to the movie Dragnet, that i have on lp, cassette and cd.

This song is so weird but also so pleasing.
Gita Andani that's the best way to describe the song.
Bravissimi e bella la ragazza
Listening to this song reminds me of Hikaru Ijuin(Japanese famous talent).

Just the facts, ma'am!
Given the usual Art of Noise and Zbignew Rybczynski collaboration, is that the Punk Girl from “Close to the Edit”, four years later? 😎
Sure, the instruments are computerized, but the fun of low-quality MIDI samples of real instruments is that it's up to how well a song is composed for it to wow.
wondering about the little girl Slywia today. Anybody know or have a pic? she is near the top of my whatever happened to list lol.
haha love it ;D
I've met JJ jeczalik, the brains behind art of noise. He's retired and lives in Oxford.

Sylwia, yes it is
haha, she lit up in the spotlight in the studio)
+Art Of Noise ITV's Art Attack brought me here.
This movie is so criminally underrated even for the 1980s,classic comedy with Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks at there very best.

Yes, RUclips includes the ads whether a channel is monetized or not.
Not sure what ads you are talking about. All I saw was music video...but then again I'm on the version with no ads.

Not the version from the opening credits of the movie, but I like it anyway! It’s very Art of Noise.

Sylwia is almost all growed up in this one. Where is she now?
Why can’t I buy this on ITunes????
Can we possibly have the Close to the Edit music video in the same nice quality?
That would be great ^__^

I used to think the 3 blokes and the small woman/girl was the Art of Noise lol
Three or four blokes and a woman, so pretty close. I always wondered if the little girl was somehow Anne Dudley's avatar or something ;)
Is that same cute little girl from "Close" vid,,ne one know what became of her,, just curious.
Tell Paul Morley I said Hi!
For a modern day counter, listen to Yello - The Race
Both are my top 2 favorite groups.
??? The race is from 1988 and Dragnet is from 1987
Then there was Gary Numan, Kraftwerk, Japan, Kate Bush and many more. I never liked that group Many More but they were still there.
The version on their Best of album is heads and tails the better version
This video is soooo Zbigniew Rybczyński style....
yep :) here is his Ytube ruclips.net/user/ZbigVision
The same little girl from close to the edit. Who is she? Maybe one of the musician daughter?
It's not the same girl from Close to the Edit, she was called Sylwia :)
They did the theme of The Dragnet movie with Dan Ackroyd and Tom Hanks? 🤤
They did a whole movie.
And the movie is based on the show fork the 60s.
