Nowadays the space has gotten competitive enough that they aren’t worth the $250 I paid for them a decade ago. Solid, no frills headset. They just work.

Point of Labs isn’t just for full reviews on LTT but to use for all channels and as a huge repository of data and analytics for hardware and peripherals. Sennheisers were always my go to for headsets (before I switched to an amp/dac, good headphones, and good condenser mic) and I was always impressed by the mic quality and sound stage of them. Like they're not as good as say spending $400 on a "decent" setup, but for how much they did cost (I used to go ONLY for the 363D, which were about $75 on sale, because the 373D had a worse mic quality but still good soundstage) they were an easy "budget" pick for years. I'm not surprised Drop has made them slightly cheaper and they still keep the same quality considering Sennheiser has been around for so long now that just taking their design and hardware and just cutting some of the cost off of it would keep the same quality sound and microphone.

The parts and files are found as a kit on vector finesse's website, every review I have seen says they sound better than nearly any other headphone because it uses speakers that are found in extremely high end headphones but buying the speakers alone costs significantly less, the entire headphones themselves only cost a little over 100 dollars including the speakers, pads, head strap, printer filament. It's really amazing, if you don't have a printer you can buy it from vector finesse as a prebuilt.
    What vector finesse is doing is really great for right to repair and giving us fair prices.

They have a nice flat response curve, so they're quite true to the sound that was intended, rather than AKG's idea of that sound. The most suggested are the hd560s, they are 150 ohms, if you just plug them in the back of your PC like nothing, you're leaving a lot performance on the table.

For everyday earphones I use Sony WF-C500. They're cheap, have good battery life, and decent sound. The don't have ANC or any other fancy features, but at the price point they're pretty much perfect for me. Everything else goes through an AV receiver. That controls my TV, console and laptop. I've just bought the Razer Blackshark V2 from Amazon for GB£65 as they were about the best rated headset online from the research I did. They're replacing the Hyperx cloud from 2020 which have been a great set of headphones for PC gaming..

    I feel like with gaming gear you should either go for something like $25 or just opt out entirely and get x10 better gear for like x10 the cost ($250). Like you could get an AT2020 mic, Scarlett Solo interface, and some ATH-M20x headphones for that price and it'd sound infinitely better and you'd also sound infinitely better. Could also go the used route which obviously has its own set of good and bad things, the worst of which is that you'd likely be getting the parts from different people and would have to wait way longer whereas what I suggested could be at your house in 2 days.

    Why do headphone manufacturers constantly put the cable connection on the left ear, when 90% of PC users have their PC on their right side? My corsair virtuoso's are guilty of this too.

    • @profosist

    The Drop x THX Panda headphones were such a massive disappointment. They didn’t deliver what was initially promised and then pretty quickly abandoned it after release. Their response to issues throughout the entire process was pretty bad. That experience gave me trust issues with Drop being able to support their own products.
    The Panda headphones could have been really great. They sound really good…when they work, and you get the tuning right.
    Maybe for $80 these might be worth taking the risk. But there’s a lot of competition at this price point under well known brands that are more likely to be reliable and you might be able to get some kind of support if needed. Steelseries and Logitech come to mind. Logitech has wireless headset for around $40, I think, that will get most people by just fine.

    • @SquintyGears
      @SquintyGears Год назад

      Drop collabing is essentially just a distribution deal. It's actually crazy to me how much effort they make to help customer complaints (though, granted some of the manufacturers have non existent support in NA). You just go to THX as if you had any other of their products. This is just a place to get a special price.

    • @bedast
      @bedast Год назад

      @@SquintyGears For the collabs and the products they design, this is absolutely not true. Drop does have regular distribution deals on a lot of products. But even as noted in this video, this collab is a different product than what EPOS offers. So the price isn't reduced just because of distribution, it's reduced because something was done to make this a Drop branded product. And Drop absolutely fronts support for these.
      THX didn't design the Panda headphones, nor the DAC/AMP Drop sells. THX is just a prominent feature of the hardware. Drop was on the line for support for the Panda headphones. And Drop, well, dropped the ball on it really badly. There was yet another company involved in finishing the firmware, which was probably the source of the biggest issues. If I went to THX to try to get support, they'd tell me to go somewhere else.

    Pretty curious to know what kind of issues you have with wireless headphones at your desk
    I've been using wireless for about a year now, a cloud fight S, and ONCE have i had to unplug/replug the dongle, that was the only issue ever (dongle simply disconnected), few months ago.
    and i'm a 10+ hrs use per day every day type of user.
