One of Leroux greatest songs. Great vocals, great composition, and a excellent message. I ran backstage security for them at a concert at Sandy CREEK Entertainment Park just south of Montgomery Alabama. Still have a T-shirt, and a pair of drum sticks from that show. Just a excellent live performance in one of the coolest outdoor music venues of its time.
I saw them in a small town called Franklin Louisiana back in 1979. Every time I hear New Orleans Ladies it takes me back to another place and time in my life.
Believe it or not...I used to do lighting for this band...I'm Jebro...One night in the Agora ballroom in Texas, I got Jeff through my headset on this song...I'm not sure what happened...but technical difficulties...and I got Jeff's vocal and guitar blaring in my ear...I'll never forget it it...AWESOME!
I was at that show at the Agora in Dallas. The tour of Up. I shared a couple of words with Jeff. I knew he was a Christian and that he was the one that led Kerry Livgren to Christ. I said "Jesus is Lord" to him. I was on the floor and he was on stage so it didn't provide the ideal setting for a conversation. But he got excited and showed me his Jesus sticker on his guitar. They were getting an encore and the crowd was noisy at the time I think, so that was, for the most part, the extent of the conversation.
How can you not like a LA classic song. Roll away the stone, open up your heart and mind, take a chance wear your heart on your sleeve. Love is on the other side to be found.
Jeff pollard, the lead vocalist an lead 🎸 player went religious shortly after this album. Just goes to show you how powerful our father in heaven is.... Thanks Jeff an leroux for being a big part of my better days. Love you guys. May ✌️ and tranquility follow you all the rest of your time here on earth.
Heard this song for the first time when Jeff opened a concert for Andre Crouch at LSU...on the same day one of his kids was born. His joy was apparent in his demeanor and in his singing.
Wonderful comment. This ballad is just as good as any rock ballad I've ever heard. It's a shame it's not known that well. Great song, great comment from, I'm assuming a Southern bell.
So many people hide behind their walls of stone..... life is for living, don't ever let the fear keep you from anything, or anyone. Roll Away the Stone!
This is one of LeRoux's most beautiful songs--and what a beautiful recording quality! There are only two of the original members left in the band, but they are still very good.
Jeff was a few years older than me and played in the band, trumpet I think, at Lafayette high. I wish I could find some live Le Roux on you tube from this time period, especially this song. Jeff Could really wail on the guitar . Saw them several times in Lafayette growing up. I watched him play this solo live about 20 feet from me at the Heymann center when there used to be a stage and he was sliding down to the ground doing the splits pushing the vibrato. I thought to myself Holy crap that guy is crazy good!!!. It left an impression on me as that was over 30 years ago. Great song
Too long. Top 40 Radio needs it to be 4m or less. This one is over 5m long. It did get airplay on long play rock stations. Plus the song takes a couple of verses to reach its high point, too long for Top 40 radio at the time.
Thought that for decades , brother...Some killer songs...too.. Those good as it gets vocals...Great production. This stuff still amazes me decades later !
One of the songs that Louisiana's LeRoux performed when I saw them. Now, I move on to the headlining act that they opened for; The Doobie Brothers on the One Step Closer Tour.
To this day, I do not know why this did not make the Top 40ty. It has the makings of a Toto single. Just my thoughts. See: New Orleans Ladies, as well. Same thoughts apply there. 🎧
This song *did* get major airplay in Christian music radio when it came out. But their label wasn't interested in that market and did not distribute the album in that sales segment.
Up album tour, Nightown-Destin Florida-1981 or '82, this was sooo good live, Jeff Pollard was the consumate front man, I cried when Rev Pollard left the band!
my favourite, very cool/best rock song from this group from my home state, ditto" from our friend Sophia b. in the neighborhood, way back in the day, which I never forgot. thanks leroux.
Who do you think sat in the back of the tour bus for Kansas spending hours talking with Kerry Livgren when LeRoux opened for them? It changed Kerry's life and his music forever.
There is actually a song he did that night I believe was called Louisiana Rain that I would dearly love to hear again. I looked for it some time ago but found nothing....except for Tom Petty. Can't even tell if it is the same song with their voice and styles being so different.
word is...after the next album, Last safe Place, the band had a new label and contract worth alot of money, Pollard left the band, leaving his bandmates flat without a singer, most of you know the connection to the band ToTo,so, they went with Fergie on vocal and never could get the same vibe without jeff's blazing guitar..underated band!!
Pollard's bio states that he was "delivered from rock and roll". I think rock and roll was delivered from him, myself. He had such amazing potential to be an influence. Saddens me.

That’s so cool ❤
I loved these guys. Jeff's voice was always one of my favorites. And the bass player was just superb.
Leon Medica. Wrote New Orleans Ladies. Producer of most of their stuff i think

Do you know Jerry Miller? Good friend of mine

Very well said!
I still have the concert shirt from 1978 - just went and got it out of the drawer
You, gentlemen, are timeless.
A great band and Jeff is an outstanding vocalist
I always love this song back in the day. I just looked it up on RUclips here hoping that somebody had put it on the Internet. Thanks!
What I call "righteous rock" and one of my all time favourites. thanks!

And I still have it on vinyl...

A great song, great guitar tone and vocal harmony.
Criminal that this regional hit did not reach Top 40 to excell to Top Ten.

He rolled away the stone! Acts 2:38. Love that guitar solo, one of the best.

Biloxi.MS Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum
They played at The Pier in Raleigh NC and showed us how to do a real show
To this day, I do not know why this did not make the Top 40ty.
It has the makings of a Toto single. Just my thoughts. See: New Orleans Ladies, as well. Same thoughts apply there. 🎧
@Chuck Hughes I'm from Arkansas and we had one station that played it.
I also like the "Toto" ish sound.
Still cannot believe this song did not make top 20. Marketing error.
New Orleans Lady was another.
That had Top 20 written all over it.
I feel the same way about "It Doesn't Matter", which was a standout song that remained obscured while the tracks on each side of it became popular.

so love this song! thx for sharing!!

great/lovely song. hi louise, cool history info u gave involving the birth of his son, for 1.

I can remember when Mott The Hoople didn't do this.
UP_TOUR NIGHTOWN DESTIN FL -1980 or 1981
I think this was probably Jeff Pollard's idea. It's a love song, but it can also be interpreted in a Christian context.
