All ‘gods’ are myth-illogical creations by men over thousands of years ago, trying to explain Nature’s AweFully AMazeSing, SenseSationAll, PowerFull, MagicAll creation from an extreme lack of knowledge. King Akhenaten was one of the first to believe in one over many. It was the Sun. ☀️ The created ‘god’ in that ‘christian’ ‘bible’, which means book, is portrayed as one hella evil, chauvinistic, narcissistic, psychopath. Have you really read it front to back? It’s written by men, again a LONG time ago, from sheer lack of knowledge…STORIES, fables, fairy tales…not Real, though bits of real history in it, as well as some good lessons, as with any story book.
ALL of Triumph's songs convey a positive message! Besides Kansas, they are the only other non-christian rock band that does not sing of sex, drugs, etc.. Does anyone else out there realize how hard it is to have hit songs that are genuinely wholesome? I'm glad this music means so much to so many as it does to me!
Anybody listening to this in 2021 take care everybody out there in these dark times take this timeless songs message and take care of each other hold on my friends out there music like this song here will keep us strong stay safe and be healthy
Phenomenal singer, guitarist, songwriter! Get chills from the lyrics on hold on! There's a celebration, deep within a song: Music holds a secret, to know it can make you whole, it's not "just" a game of notes, it's the sounds inside your soul, the magic of the melody, runs through you like a stream, the notes you play run through your head like a dream! HOLD ON!! Beautifully written!!
I worked at a skating rink as a floor guard when I was in high school which playing the music was part of my job Triumph got plenty of airtime, everything then was on a 45 or 33 record.
Rik Emmett was blessed to be able to sing and play a guitar like he can. He could be a lead singer and a guitarist in any band. ROCK AND ROLL MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did not live through the 70s or 80s so i dont know how popular this band was but geez us how does a band have so many inspirational songs that sound this great not have as many fans today as others like Boston Kansas and Scorpions....at least close? Although they deserve more credit i am very glad Triumph lived up to their name, the lucky fans of this band are now fortunate to be able to listen to songs such as this
The reason I find this song so inspirational (and many other also) is because it has a basic christian message and spirit of encouragement to it. The Bible says, "he who endures to the end shall be saved." and "he who overcomes I will give him a white stone and my name will be written on his forehead, " Rev. 22:3. I picture Jesus saying the same thing to those who believe on his name. "Hold on. I'm coming back soon. Don't give up." This song is special also because it does not encourage the typical debauchery we hear in a lot of rock music, ie...., Drugs, sex, wild women, wild men, gang banging, killing police officers. and the list goes on.
A song like this can make you drift back 40 years to a time when you where young and options were wide open. Options haven't changed, just grown more important that we remember the dreams this part of the world was created to work for. We really are going to have to Hold on to our Dreams now cause there are forces at work to strip them away from us.
I first heard this song in 1979 and never forget its message. My dreams meant every thing to me at 18 years old. Now I own a machine tool company and have had so much fun along the way. So never forget your dreams they can come true.
In 1979 I had a 1977 Firebird Formula with a pair of Jensen speakers in the back and I could play this song loud enough. Went and seen triumph that year in concert and the one song that they didn’t play was this song but when we got out of the concert and got in the firebird this song came on the radio and of course it went full blast for all the concert go’ers to hear in the parking lot. Was a blast in those days.
Every Triumph fan out there Should call the rock and roll Hall of fame every day demanding that they put this great Canadian band in the Hall and keep calling until they do it
Great vocals, all three of them. Not very many people recognize the great harmonies these guys produced together. They were the good guys in white and their songs were so upbeat and positive. Man Canada really had that 3 piece band figured out. Great song and great band.
***** Not me either, but I'm always reading people's responses on how much better Getty Lee's vocals are, and I so disagree. Getty, while having a distinctive voice, to me, has no real range.
They must be Canadian..Geddy Lee /Rush is one of the most overrated (and annoying) bands of all time. Just IMHO, but Triumph is musically and vocally superior in every way to that hack trio Rush. Every time I hear a Rush song on the radio, I change the station.
Bill M I don't know if the commenters are Canadian or not, but I know Rush has a big following here as well. I don't hate Rush, but their lyrics are often politically motivated, and that in itself is a turn off for me. Triumph's music is so up lifting. Music candy for the human spirit. And yes, Ric Emmet's vocals are superior to Gettys' that's for certain.
I'm so glad I grew up(not that I'm gromn up yet,I'm only 57)during this era of rock.I've had a chance to listen to so much.Triumph is and always will be one of my favorites.

@@michaelparks536 Gospel music has inspirational value. Rock n Roll is based on blues, boogie woogie, and Gospel. Some rock and soul are inspired by the Bible. Elvis was a fan of Gospel music and blues. The late, great Aretha Franklin was a Gospel singer. Religion and music have always gone together.
Saw these boys live in Upper Darby at the Tower Theater in ‘77 or ‘78. My mom drove 3 of my friends and me to the show in her ‘73 green and white Pinto. Back then, life was just friends, girls and music. It got complicated after that. 😊
Came out when I was 13. I was a victim of child abuse who thought God was talking to him through pop music, telling him which way to go. A whole bunch of pop music came out in 1981, and it didn’t all have a positive message like this. Something to think about if you’re an artist. More people in your audience than you realize. Some of those people feel they have very little left to lose.
Fred, I do hope you healed from that. Too bad , Fred, People like that I would love to bust up. I don't know what I would if a person molested one of mine. They are all grown now but when I read your post, my heart went out to you.
This song is so much better than most of the later fan-favorites that would dominate their set lists in the future. This one never really would ever fit again, and it's a shame.
When I was a kid still in school, I couldn't wait to get home so I could put the head phones on and disappear into the music and forget about the horrible day I just had!!
That was true for so many of us. Most of us had to endure some brutally painful HS days. We gradually realized that the world would always fall far short of our expectations; and that life will clobber us, if we are not very careful; and sometimes even though we try our best, we will fail. We grow to learn that we must get tough and soldier on. Because, sometimes work and adult life are much tougher than HS.
When I was in high school, one localish (45 miles away) radio station called K104, played the top 104 songs of the year every year on new year's eve into new year's day. And this was their #1 song for 1979. I couldn't agree more! And I was lucky enough to see Triumph play it when I saw them in early '82.
Surely, this kind of music comes from a very special and spiritual place. I listened to this song a lot in my teen years, when there was no RUclips, and all we had was the pictures from the album covers (at least in my country)
I'm 60 years old. I expect every new day to be better than yesterday, and this song is as relevant to now as it ever was to yesterday. Fuck looking back.
Triumph - Hold On Lyrics Music holds the secret, To know it can make you whole It's not just a game of notes, It's the sounds inside your soul The magic of the melody Runs through you like a stream The notes that play flow through your head Like a dream Like a dream Like a dream I sing this song for the common man For the people in despair I bring my song into the world And I sing it everywhere The simple truth lies waiting here For everyone to share So hold on, and I will take you there Hold on and I will take you there The daily routine takes your soul, Lost without a trace It holds you down and turns you 'round And puts you in your place Another day, another dollar Another pretty face Another chance to lose yourself In the endless race [Chorus] Hold on, hold on to your dreams Hold on, even though it seems Everyone around you has their little schemes Listen to your heart and hold on to your dreams Can't you feel the magic Feel it everywhere Can't you hear the music There's something in the air There's a celebration Deep within a song Celebrate this feeling, You know it can't be wrong [Chorus] Caught up in routine, You got to break it Time won't wait for us, We got to make it Fate gives you the chance You've got to take it Take it Hold on
I thought no one could be as big of a Triumph fan as myself. Outstanding to see all you people agree. Triumph was great. First heard them as a junior in high school. 1977- 78. Little did I know that that was as good as music could get. And that 40 years has passed in the blink of an eye. But I tell you the truth, my mind's eye still feels the same, still likes the same music is that young man did
Triumph is the most underrated band of all time. Anyone who has heard their music and who knows music knows they belong in the Rock Roll Hall of Fame. I saw Triumph 6 to 7 times in the 80s they were unbelievable live also. Triumph and Rock and Roll will live forever!

this song inspired me to learn guitar, this was the first song I ever played for my fiancé, I.L.M, Kirsten Ann Heather Mclowery, 1963-1988. They say you will always be there If You are in my heart, that stlll does not mean that a day goes by that I don't miss you...

Hope you found healing Fred.
Fred, I do hope you healed from that. Too bad , Fred, People like that I would love to bust up. I don't know what I would if a person molested one of mine. They are all grown now but when I read your post, my heart went out to you.
5 years older than you but similar story. Hope you're doing well.
AGREED
this word is fucking ruined with pop
this song came out in "81" i believe, triumph was a big part of the 80"s
Eighteen gold and nine Platinum awards... well deserved!!
Unbreakable perfection from a time only us who LIVED it truly remember and love....
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums from one of my favorite bands!
Best band ever ,including stage shows , no matter what year it is
This song is so much better than most of the later fan-favorites that would dominate their set lists in the future. This one never really would ever fit again, and it's a shame.
This group always makes me feel better when I'm upset....thanks for the music!
You got that right!!
One of the greatest and most underrated bands there ever was
Man, this brings back memories that are still alive in my soul.........
Till this day probably one of my best songs ever. Can't believe it been 40 yrs.
What a voice!!
That one show I had zero expectations
It was 1983 they blew me away!
Me to
When I was a kid still in school, I couldn't wait to get home so I could put the head phones on and disappear into the music and forget about the horrible day I just had!!
Yep, the big black padded JVC headphones, laying back on the waterbed.
well said. i feel the exact same way. I was born 1965 the youngest of three boys. my brothers had very good taste in music. thanks bro's
VERY underrated band!
Agreed
One of the best bands to ever come out of Canada! Great song!
Domenico Vitale Or the US, I seen them back in the day. One of my favorites bands.
Domenico Vitale Dom, that's an understatement. These guys are great. One of my fav's.
Bachman Turner also great. However, I think in terms of musical talent, Triumph is better.
One of my favorite songs ever. It's awesome when you're cruising down the highway on a gorgeous sunny day with the windows all rolled down.
Wow....Triumph! You're always bringing me back to the great bands that we used to share.
And still do!
Adam Hechler good feelings and good times!
Adam Hechler ~My neighbors should be used to this by now.
I like to listen to triumph and jus looking into the sky it's so much better omg !! your thoughts will be everywhere
When I was in high school, one localish (45 miles away) radio station called K104, played the top 104 songs of the year every year on new year's eve into new year's day. And this was their #1 song for 1979. I couldn't agree more! And I was lucky enough to see Triumph play it when I saw them in early '82.
Absolutely underrated band. They have 5-6 songs that stack up with anybody!!!!
One of the best guitar intros - so melodic and memorable... great great song..
Surely, this kind of music comes from a very special and spiritual place. I listened to this song a lot in my teen years, when there was no RUclips, and all we had was the pictures from the album covers (at least in my country)
lou richard As did I Lou. Yea we had pictures on the (LP). Or vinyl as they put it.
I'm 60 years old. I expect every new day to be better than yesterday, and this song is as relevant to now as it ever was to yesterday. Fuck looking back.
wow, the song then and now means soooooo much meaning to me!!!!such great words!!!!!!!!
Triumph - Hold On Lyrics
Music holds the secret,
To know it can make you whole
It's not just a game of notes,
It's the sounds inside your soul
The magic of the melody
Runs through you like a stream
The notes that play flow through your head
Like a dream
Like a dream
Like a dream
I sing this song for the common man
For the people in despair
I bring my song into the world
And I sing it everywhere
The simple truth lies waiting here
For everyone to share
So hold on, and I will take you there
Hold on and I will take you there
The daily routine takes your soul,
Lost without a trace
It holds you down and turns you 'round
And puts you in your place
Another day, another dollar
Another pretty face
Another chance to lose yourself
In the endless race
[Chorus]
Hold on, hold on to your dreams
Hold on, even though it seems
Everyone around you has their little schemes
Listen to your heart and hold on to your dreams
Can't you feel the magic
Feel it everywhere
Can't you hear the music
There's something in the air
There's a celebration
Deep within a song
Celebrate this feeling,
You know it can't be wrong
[Chorus]
Caught up in routine,
You got to break it
Time won't wait for us,
We got to make it
Fate gives you the chance
You've got to take it
Take it
Hold on
I always sang it as 'endless space'. Perhaps I need to quit singing along once & listen more carefully...
Totally awesome ! Brings my life in prospective /////////
I thought no one could be as big of a Triumph fan as myself. Outstanding to see all you people agree. Triumph was great. First heard them as a junior in high school. 1977- 78. Little did I know that that was as good as music could get. And that 40 years has passed in the blink of an eye. But I tell you the truth, my mind's eye still feels the same, still likes the same music is that young man did
Too bad they are not still playing. So many great bands have retired. Tough loss for fans.
Triumph is the most underrated band of all time. Anyone who has heard their music and who knows music knows they belong in the Rock Roll Hall of Fame. I saw Triumph 6 to 7 times in the 80s they were unbelievable live also. Triumph and Rock and Roll will live forever!
They had the BEST Shows... 🔥 🔥 🔥
I do remember them having two or three big hits, maybe more, so they couldn't have been that underrated.
My neck and ears hurt from listening over and over to this great song.
one of the greatest bands ever! their music is so uplifting. let everyone of us take heed of these words...do the right thing - always - and help your fellow man. \ m / \ m /
Truth
Best concert I ever attended 1985 Tallahassee with Molly Hatchet. Front row with Rik tossing us picks. Never forget it.
Bet it awesome being there.
this song inspired me to learn guitar, this was the first song I ever played for my fiancé, I.L.M, Kirsten Ann Heather Mclowery, 1963-1988. They say you will always be there If You are in my heart, that stlll does not mean that a day goes by that I don't miss you...
God bless you ..your memories...live love and HOLD ON

I’ve been a huge rock fan for 50 years in the UK but I’ve never heard of Triumph until today. Sounds like a ‘nice’ Boston.
