What to do if you're short. Step 1. Cry a little. Step 2. Ignore the tall people(we're not laughing, we're jealous we have to deadlift so much farther off the floor) step 3. Apply effort. Step 4. Repeat.
This was great! As being on the shorter side in my weight class when watching videos and tutorials by 6'2''+ people you tend to get into the bad habit of training and competition preping like a tall person. When my first competition came up I learned my lesson.
killxswitch my lady has gone as far as dumbells. She still eyes the bar with suspicion, despite the fact that she can squat and bench it just fine. Oh well. She's doing her thing. I do believe that all fitness goals are valid.
Recently joined a new gym with strong man implements. Been avoiding the atlas stone for a couple weeks, decided to try it out tonight. Nothing crazy, 90Lbs stone, 4 set of 5 to shoulder. Got half way through my second set of just man handling that stone before I was like "fuck, this is hard, what was that shit Alena said about using your hips?" So I took a breather, re-watched the vid and was able to complete using a better technique. Thanks for all the tips!
Damn man you guys are incredible I've needed this as a short strongman competitor and am terrible at stones. Will be applying this asap. Watching has already boosted confidence. 💪🏽
I always thought I was short for strongman but I guess I'm average to tall for the u140s. If someone who is 5'1 can get the stone over the bar I have no excuse. Good video.
My hips are weak. Are stones (or stonelike excersizes) a good way to build this strength, or should I get them strong first? Btw: She has such a great coordination, you can see how every possible muscle gets in on the job with perfect timing. Always lovely to see difficult movements performed with grace.
Technique is everything with the stone....???Do you ever or has anyone ever thought of practicing with a large diameter stone but of lighter than a solid one(say one partially hollow) just for a progression to a larger stone?❓❓❓❓
At around 1:25 you say skinny people are good at strongman, why’s that? As a 6’3 165lbs guy that would be great news, but what’s the reason behind that?
If you're tall and skinny you generally have some great leverages for the deadlift (long arms, long legs, short torso), which is one of the most important lift in strongman.
I switched over to a gym with many strongman implements(stones, farmer handles, yoke, etc.) but have primarily trained for PL, how do I start with the strongman movements?
Hopefully you figured it out by now but I'd pair an implement with your lift day. Farmers and deadlifts, squats and stones, ohp and circus dumbell. That kind of thing. Start with a load you can handle and progressively overload
Its funny I was just thinking how I could lift stones because my back hurts just watching people lift them. I'm not short, but It's still great content!
Some of your Atlas Stones look like Steel Balls and some look like Concrete Balls. Could you please comment on the difference between steel vs. concrete balls. Also if you could comment on the 17" & 20" Stone of Steel (new product from Elite FTS - $790.00 on sale at $711.00 - seems a little on high side) . I live in Bel Air, Md. - if possible would like to visit your Gym
Brian, your wife uses big words and big math. Also, I think she can lift heavier stones than I can, so maybe you could just not let her on the channel anymore?? Ha. Good video. Thanks for the tips.
Nobody has mentioned her face when he says "an inch makes a massive difference" at 8:05 yet. I'm disappointed.
Kelton Pisano Haha, just saw it!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Kelton Pisano hahahaha that was HILARIOUS !
My God.... Your kids are gonna come out national champions.
undrachevr World*
Awesome! I'm a smaller guy who is... well frankly not as strong as your wife.
So I love these little people tips.
What to do if you're short. Step 1. Cry a little. Step 2. Ignore the tall people(we're not laughing, we're jealous we have to deadlift so much farther off the floor) step 3. Apply effort. Step 4. Repeat.
You guys are awesome together.
I'm 6'6 yet I'm watching this, another great upload man
As a 5'7 dude, I've been waiting for this video my whole life.
Lane Holliday short guy high five! No... higher... 😂
Watch Darren Sadler do stones at WSM. He was 5'9 lifting on a 6'0 platform. He OHP the stones
Your wife is also awesome! Congratulations, a couple who shares the same interest for fitness and strength is unbeatable :-)
yall are awesome. I'm showing this to my 5'2" girlfriend. I'm 6'2' so we have about the same height difference as you both.
Man she's amazing she was handling those stones like there nothing
Brotherman, you two look good together. Keep coming out with more interesting content in the future I hope.
When I saw 'My WIFE' I was expecting a video of her raging over that 300 lbs OHP :D
This was great! As being on the shorter side in my weight class when watching videos and tutorials by 6'2''+ people you tend to get into the bad habit of training and competition preping like a tall person. When my first competition came up I learned my lesson.
Love this!! She's a beast! Its awesome to see other strong women!!
Digging the new style of tutorials. Do more of these with your wife in the future too. And thanks to Uncle Nic for the camera work.
Great to see your wife teaching with you! She's AWESOME! Also happy to see you healing up!
It's great you two share a passion together. My wife is supportive, but not terribly interested in fitness or lifting.
killxswitch my lady has gone as far as dumbells. She still eyes the bar with suspicion, despite the fact that she can squat and bench it just fine. Oh well. She's doing her thing. I do believe that all fitness goals are valid.
My wife has enjoyed going to the gym when she's done it, but it's just not something she values the way I do.
One of my best couple
As a 5’6” “strongman” I needed this
Alena is great! Ask her to push your curfew to 550lbs this week. :)))
The cat clip at the beginning looks like your new conditioning workout for the comeback :)
Knowledge bombs!! Alena is awesome 💪
I needed this!!!! The height is my mental block because I am short as well. Love you guys!!!

That girl has some pipes!💪👍
HELL YEAH
More with her, pleeeeease.
I'm 5'7", so this vid's awesome and useful as always.

You guys are awesome together Brian
Great job Alena - your coaching and cues are awesome :)
Oh my god thank you so much. I recently did a strongman meet and I literally COULD NOT do the stones cause the platform was at my eye level!
Great content! Really appreciate the pointers, one day I may transition to more strongman type workouts, competing even sounds fun!
I'm 5'7, this is a huge help, thank you.
I am so glad I found your channel man!
YAY do glad you see your other half!
So glad lol
Damn man you guys are incredible I've needed this as a short strongman competitor and am terrible at stones. Will be applying this asap. Watching has already boosted confidence. 💪🏽
Thanks, From a 1,66m person that hip thing helps a lot. Have one training session to practice until Arnold South America
Watch Darren Sadler do the stones at WSM. He literally had to OHP the stones because he's only 5'9
Great video, I'm 5'8 and can load a 350lb stone after a year of training them. I just yank it off the ground violently it really helps me on the pick
She looks like a brunette Swoleesi.
I think Chris meant "Green Arrow" from the TV series 8)
So much love for you two!
He referenced Exercises In Futility!!!!!
Awesome video. I'm shorter myself and have always wondered how I could do strongman.
Pryon is an overhead pressing beast!
I always thought I was short for strongman but I guess I'm average to tall for the u140s. If someone who is 5'1 can get the stone over the bar I have no excuse. Good video.
Very awesome and entertaining. Hope to see you bench soon brother. I am aways watching your 505 video and duffalo bar bench session.
Great video
7:50 was that a shout-out to infinite elgintensity?
Now I really want to try atlas stones!
Great video and tips
Great video guys.
very good advice for a 5,10 heavyweight like myself haha
Why are so many 5'7 guys commenting. Not going to lie I'm also 5'7 but I've seen like 8 comments from guys that are 5'7
Great advice guys!
Great info! Thanks!
she did great

I am imagining a semi truck entering a drive thru fast food window. Tight fit.
Technique is everything with the stone....???Do you ever or has anyone ever thought of practicing with a large diameter stone but of lighter than a solid one(say one partially hollow) just for a progression to a larger stone?❓❓❓❓
Yea man people do that all of the time but with mixed results. It doesn't seem to have a ton of Carry over
Ok thanks .....log press goes up than strict press goes up at least for me so thats why I thought it might carry over with the stone
Finally!!
I'm 5'8 and I wanna do strongman
At around 1:25 you say skinny people are good at strongman, why’s that? As a 6’3 165lbs guy that would be great news, but what’s the reason behind that?

it's super awesome!
And I thought you were cool. Gorgeous bride Sir.
You looked like you could have slammed that stone into an nba net

P.S. Brian - Could you also comment on the sandbag Atlas Stone as sold by Rouge Fitness
5:34 daamn! ;)
Hooray! You saved the cat :)
When you're a 6'2" lightweight like myself and Brian says "This video is not for you" @1:32, you still watch anyways.
Does she have a strong sister?
Many
Oof followup question, are they single?
Im short too im 5'8"
Can you put your elbows under the stone, or is that bad?
So how come with the stones it’s okay to round your back so much but somehow not get injured??
Dominic Croucher because you’re pressed up against the stone on the load and therefor have something to brace against
Who’s Green Lattern 😂😂
If you guys ever have children then you will have to release a video: how 5 year olds lift stones, because your kids will be so freaking strong.
Are your stones coated with a tacky surface or just painted?
They re not painted that is just old tacky
You're not allowed to use tacky with stone of steel. At least in most competitions.
Julia Nunyabiz he's talking about the stones in the background in some shots
Julia Nunyabiz like at 10:27
this person's dad oh my bad, and yeah that shift is hard to get off your arms, let alone the stones.
i am 6 foot 6 but I am here anyway
7:50 *adjusts traps and flexes glasses*" exercise in futility" eh?
3:10 Clarence Kennedy has some competition
I miss that bmore accent, hon.
We love Alena!!!!
(And Brian too)
Brian, your wife uses big words and big math. Also, I think she can lift heavier stones than I can, so maybe you could just not let her on the channel anymore?? Ha. Good video. Thanks for the tips.
your wife has better arms than me :/ xD
What up with that Basque flag?
Just a 5"7 male comenting
1 person can't stone to shoulder.
"Brunettes are better than blondes!"
Ah, but there then's redheads...
Brian married Aeryn Sun from Farscape???
Does tacky ruin your shirts? Haha
