      Congrats on the New Year PR. Many more to ya!
      In other news, when I made a comment to my girl about skinny guys sticking together, she said, "You know, you're really not that skinny anymore." So that was nice.

    Thanks for the videos on opening a gym. I opened a small studio 3 years ago, and people don't realize the very real struggle we go through on a daily basis! I even gave up my apartment to sleep there, so I only had to pay rent on one place. It is still a struggle to this day, but I will not give up, GOD HONORS COMMITMENT! I continue to do this because I truly believe the best payment is being able to play a small role in someone changing their life for the better.......not only physically, but mentally as well. You have also inspired me to start this RUclips channel, and get out of my comfort zone a little more. No vids yet, but I should be putting one up this week. Thanks again for the great content, and inspiration, you touch more people than you realize.

    Watching u carry heavy stuff like a forklift, I decided to get a 200 lb sandbag. I thought it was going to be way to light... I was painfully humbled and even more respect for what you and now got even more training goals for 2017. Thanks for all the painful ideas u give me

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial

      Man, heavy sandbags are BRUTAL! I have always told people, if you can pick up a 300lbs sandbag and carry it, you can pick up a 300lb just about anything in normal life.

      I did a 350lb sandag shoulder around 5 years ago,it was a lifetime best and the hardest struggle i've ever had with weight resistance, its on my channel. Weighed around 210-215 bodyweight.
      Done a homemade 275 stone to the shoulder, not tried any heavier stones.
      Great channel man, your enthusiasm is infectious.

    If Goo Gone is your recommendation for removing tacky from your hands, I really really hope you're only using it for your bigger lifts. It's a pretty nasty combination of solvents/carcinogens and repeated use is probably not recommended. I don't want to sound like one of those annoying critics, just looking out for you. I don't know what I'd do without your channel! Thank you for all the work you do for us!

    Great as always. What kind of sandbags are solid ones and where should I look for some? 😁

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 лет назад +1

      The ones i have are made by a company named iron mind but they are pretty expensive or what they are. I would start out with just a used military duffle bag that you can buy at amazon or anywhere else like that online and go from there brother. It will cost you 1/4 as much and as long as you put the sand in something before you put it in the duffle bag, it will be just fine

    • @stefandrpa770
      @stefandrpa770 8 лет назад

  • @johnmolteni
    @johnmolteni 8 лет назад

    Great info Brian. On what days would you schedule stone work of any type? Upper or lower body day or does it not matter? Also how many times a week would you schedule this with the other strongman workouts?

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 лет назад

      I usually schedule them on my deadlift days because 400lbs feels a lot lighter after heavy deadlifts and I have already been doing a lot of hinging. And I only hit stones probably once every 2 weeks. on the other 2 of the month i work yokes. Unless i am getting ready for a comp. Then things change completely

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 лет назад +1

      Brian Alsruhe,
      you have a good point. I didn't think of that. Rogue makes these rogue D-balls. That's probably the closest thing to an atlas stone I can get. It only goes up to 150lbs though. But it's rubber and you won't have to worry about crushing your foot.

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 лет назад

  • @randygentry1207
    @randygentry1207 8 лет назад

    Do you ever try to slow down your rate of progress on a lift? It seems that everytime I get a good run of progress say 2-3 months of slow but steady progress I end up injured.I have put 30 lbs. on a benchpress in 10 weeks.Should I back off some to lock in progress? It probly don't help that I'm 50 yrs. old and only been training last three years

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 лет назад +1

      I never intentionally slow down, but i will drop the weights back for periods of time. So i might do 5x5 for 4 weeks to 10x3 for 4 weeks and by the end of that I am pretty beat up so i will drop back to something like 4x8 to give my body a rest. This seems to allow me to keep moving forward as long as i take a step back from time to time.

    • @randygentry1207
      @randygentry1207 8 лет назад

      Wow,we have been doing 10 sets of 3 4 or 5 reps stopping short of a grinder rep.Then finish session with 2 sets of a lighter weight in the 30 rep range to falure.When I have tried doing any less work and I don't seen to progress.Do you think that I'm doing too much or do you think that after a good run on gains I should stay a weight for a week or so than get back at it?

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 лет назад +1

      Hmmm I think different things work for different people. I know for me, that would be too much, but like you said, if you need that kind of volume to make progress then I am not sure if you have the choice.

      Being short has no real effect when going to your shoulder. And I am only a few inches taller than you and have very short arms. If your crush strength is strong enough then you could definitely do it.

    Hi, Brian. I started to watch your videos and saw that you are very attentive with subscribers. I'm brazilian and in some videos is hard to follow what you're saying cause it's too fast. Here you're speaking in a good speed, but the video about conditioning was kind of hard to understand, although I know you need to transmite some emotions and stimulus.
    Ps:The automatic subtitles from RUclips really sucks and makes even worse haha
    Thank you for all the material, I watched a lot and set my new workout plan.

      Hahaha well thank you for watching man! I am sorry that i talk so fast but it is because I am still not comfortable in front of the camera. Hopefully as time goes on it will get better!

    WD40 and baby wet wipe get Tacky gone really quickly.

      I've actually heard that about the WD-40. Ive never tried it though, great tip man!

      WD-40 works super great for taking off tacky, except if you have bare forearms you'll probably rash, and WD-40 is SUPER cancer causing. I wrap my arms now and use WD-40 on my hands. Baby oil works too, but nearly as well, I'll have to try wipes.
