Just loaded my first atlas stone with the help of these videos 😊the lightest stone in in my gym is 80kg never been able to get it off the floor until watching these loaded it 4 times today and left the gym buzzing 😊 keep the videos coming there a massive help man 👍🏼
That is awesome man and thank you! Be careful though, you will fall in love with those things!
You look like a Greek god with the world on his shoulder. Everything you do is just so damn impressive. Thanks for the info, dude!
You mean atlas. Thats why it's an atlas-stone. :D
Hahaha thanks man!
How about painting your next big stone to resemble the earth?
Also got the feeling that duffle sandbag comment was directed at me ha ha hahaha!
Hahaha nah man, it was just a general statement and I may just do that with a stone!
Ha ha! Wow. Imagine that as a profile pic to go along with the clothing artwork.
Congrats on the New Year PR. Many more to ya!
In other news, when I made a comment to my girl about skinny guys sticking together, she said, "You know, you're really not that skinny anymore." So that was nice.
Thanks for the videos on opening a gym. I opened a small studio 3 years ago, and people don't realize the very real struggle we go through on a daily basis! I even gave up my apartment to sleep there, so I only had to pay rent on one place. It is still a struggle to this day, but I will not give up, GOD HONORS COMMITMENT! I continue to do this because I truly believe the best payment is being able to play a small role in someone changing their life for the better.......not only physically, but mentally as well. You have also inspired me to start this RUclips channel, and get out of my comfort zone a little more. No vids yet, but I should be putting one up this week. Thanks again for the great content, and inspiration, you touch more people than you realize.
That is awesome man, thank you for saying that! I will definitely check out your stuff once you get it up and running!
I really appreciate that! God bless.
How’s the business going?
Brian, im shocked no one has asked this question in the comments... where do i get myself one on those cannon ball pull up apparatus things? thanks
Rogue sells them
Watching u carry heavy stuff like a forklift, I decided to get a 200 lb sandbag. I thought it was going to be way to light... I was painfully humbled and even more respect for what you and now got even more training goals for 2017. Thanks for all the painful ideas u give me
Man, heavy sandbags are BRUTAL! I have always told people, if you can pick up a 300lbs sandbag and carry it, you can pick up a 300lb just about anything in normal life.
I did a 350lb sandag shoulder around 5 years ago,it was a lifetime best and the hardest struggle i've ever had with weight resistance, its on my channel. Weighed around 210-215 bodyweight.
Done a homemade 275 stone to the shoulder, not tried any heavier stones.
Great channel man, your enthusiasm is infectious.
Great video, I recently joined a Strongman gym in the UK and did Stones for the first time. Your first video helped a lot !
That's awesome man! Welcome to the club!
Great timing! Signed up for a Strongman competition a week ago, and can only go train at a strongman gym 1-2 times a week, so great to get a few exercises that have good carryover.
That is great man, i have put up quite a few videos about what to expect at your first comp, what to have in your competition bag and how to make weight. I hope they will help you out! Not go get after it man!
That cannonball pullup thing looks legit, might have to see if we can get one in our gym.
Dude, they are the hardest pull-up you will ever do!
Brian Alsruhe I’m having a hard time finding one. Just the 3” rogue ones show
Never did stones before friday, a few days ago. I managed to lift a 271.?? lb stone. i'm psyched bc i now have a new excercise and i manged to lift it.
The new Rogue sandbags are awesome as well they start at 100,150,200, and 300 pounds
I will definitely check them out! i was fortunate enough to get a gift card for them for Christmas, so that might make the list!
If Goo Gone is your recommendation for removing tacky from your hands, I really really hope you're only using it for your bigger lifts. It's a pretty nasty combination of solvents/carcinogens and repeated use is probably not recommended. I don't want to sound like one of those annoying critics, just looking out for you. I don't know what I'd do without your channel! Thank you for all the work you do for us!
Sure thing, but i didn't recommend it. I said it is what I use. I know it is bad for you, but so are burritos. I try not to take any of this too seriously. As a guy with a brain tumor, it is the least of my worries.
Brian Alsruhe good point; you obviously know what you're doing! Thanks again! :)
Thanks for watching, it really does mean a lot!
These videos are perfect! I just made a few of my own. What finish should I use on them? Thanks!!!
just rewatched both thanks again I'll try the hip hinge next time I attempted the stones.
That is awesome man, hopefully it helps!
Brian Alsruhe I see what you mentioned by hinging more then squatting but it will take a few lifts to get it the technique down.
Yea man, it is like learning how to ride a bike again, but in the end it will pay off.
Great video thanks for good info
Thanks brother!
This is really helpful. Will a regular stone work for now? It wouldn't be as smooth in nature but I have plenty of access to those. Same with log work. I can get trunks but obviously not with handles inside of them.
great content as always. you are an inspiration brian!
Thank you so much for watching!
Thanks Brian. I want to try a strongman contest this year and these vids are great. I've competed in PLing so there is some work to do.
You will love it man, i guarantee it!
Have never done stone lifting but it is interesting to learn and see how to lift them. Have never seen one in person wish i had because it looks challenging. Excellant video as always especially sense it was 3 am.
Thanks brother, I appreciate that!
how about zercher deadlifts for breaking it off the floor
Put a 25 lb flat plate on the floor and load 45s flat on top of that. Pick up the 45s like you would a stone
Great video as always!
Thank you!
Prepping to make my own atlas stones! Pretty excited but I think in the mean time I'll work with a sandbag.
You won't regret it man!
Thanks for the tips brother, I'm definitely excited to try these stones out once my back finely heals. Great content as usual and it is definitely appreciated. Congrats on that PR by the way, that's Awesome! You look like a monster driving that stone up to your shoulder like that, and the numbers are pretty damn impressive too. But anyway, keep up the good work. Looking forward to more to come.
Thanks brother, i really appreciate that!
bicep injuries on stones when they happen how to avoid ect?
Perfect video! by the end of this year, I plan on making my first atlas stone to play with. I have no idea what size to start with but it'll be small. hope you get some better sleep! happy new year!
Thank brother!
Appreciate the vids. New to all this, I'm a trucker and want to add a 150 sandbag to my workouts. Looking at making it a full bod on fridays but not able to find any workouts using JUST the bag. Any pointers you might have?
Motivational to the top!! I 'll make a sandbag. Thanks Brian! And again a PR for you! Beast! 👍✌️
Thanks man, i really appreciate that!
awesome video. I buy tube sand for $6 for 60lbs each and duck tape them together. works great
Great tip man and thank you!
Great video. Day 2 in the books following your linear progression.......I'm BUSHED! haha. Good stuff man. Squats tomorrow ! I guess I'll do the 4 day structure consecutive days?
That's great man! And I try to keep at least 24-48 hours between workouts man. I train, M/W/F and Sat
Brian Alsruhe oh snap! Good to know. Thanks man!
Sure thing man!
Great as always. What kind of sandbags are solid ones and where should I look for some? 😁
The ones i have are made by a company named iron mind but they are pretty expensive or what they are. I would start out with just a used military duffle bag that you can buy at amazon or anywhere else like that online and go from there brother. It will cost you 1/4 as much and as long as you put the sand in something before you put it in the duffle bag, it will be just fine
Brian Alsruhe Nice, I already started making some of equipment for strongmen and sandbags will be nice and cheap addition. Thanks 😁
Put the sand in a contractor garbage bag, won't tear inside the duffle bag.
***** Thanks man 💪😁
That's a good idea!
what if you have pain in your elbow and the shoulder you're not putting the stone on. The one I have is the Slater 14" stone and it weighs 116 pounds.
Great info Brian. On what days would you schedule stone work of any type? Upper or lower body day or does it not matter? Also how many times a week would you schedule this with the other strongman workouts?
I usually schedule them on my deadlift days because 400lbs feels a lot lighter after heavy deadlifts and I have already been doing a lot of hinging. And I only hit stones probably once every 2 weeks. on the other 2 of the month i work yokes. Unless i am getting ready for a comp. Then things change completely
Thanks. Now go to sleep.
Hahaha if only i could my friend.
Hey Brian! What are your thoughts on the zercher lift? It seems to mimic the atlas stone groove quite. Combined with the pull ups you showed it seems to be a good start. What do you think?
I like searchers, but honestly with the other strongman stuff it kind of sets me back a little bit so i avoid it. If i didn't have access to Strongman implements, i might throw it in my training though
Do you have any preference on brand of tacky? How do you deal with your clothes after using tacky?
Great video and advice, like the Saltire flag on your wall 🏴👍
What do you think about training with natural stones?
Would a spud strap be an alternative to tacky. Save the mess
Do you alternate shoulders or have a dominant shoulder you always pull to?
Grippy gloves instead of the tacky stuff ?
Get some!
Hahaha! Thanks man!
Brian Alsruhe is business good for you this time of year ? Do you get swamped with the resolution crowd like the commercial gyms ?
Not at all man...Most people who go to the gym this year are looking for a treadmill and some machines. This is actually my slowest time of the year. I am busiest during the summer when all of the college athletes are back home trying to get better for the next season.
Brian Alsruhe my gym has around 26,000 members and they are currently marketing for more! I don't know when they show up though , literally the same people every time.
Hahaha thats the name of the game man. They sell the HOPE of getting results, then lock them into a 3 year contract. It is so ridiculous!
hey is there any way to wear gloves, then put the tacky on the gloves?
Yea definitely man, but the act of picking the stone up and putting it over a bar or to your shoulder would pull them right off your hands.
Brian Alsruhe,
you have a good point. I didn't think of that. Rogue makes these rogue D-balls. That's probably the closest thing to an atlas stone I can get. It only goes up to 150lbs though. But it's rubber and you won't have to worry about crushing your foot.
They sell stone molds there as well man!
Do you ever try to slow down your rate of progress on a lift? It seems that everytime I get a good run of progress say 2-3 months of slow but steady progress I end up injured.I have put 30 lbs. on a benchpress in 10 weeks.Should I back off some to lock in progress? It probly don't help that I'm 50 yrs. old and only been training last three years
I never intentionally slow down, but i will drop the weights back for periods of time. So i might do 5x5 for 4 weeks to 10x3 for 4 weeks and by the end of that I am pretty beat up so i will drop back to something like 4x8 to give my body a rest. This seems to allow me to keep moving forward as long as i take a step back from time to time.
Wow,we have been doing 10 sets of 3 4 or 5 reps stopping short of a grinder rep. Then finish session with 2 sets of a lighter weight in the 30 rep range to falure. When I have tried doing any less work and I don't seen to progress.Do you think that I'm doing too much or do you think that after a good run on gains I should stay a weight for a week or so than get back at it?
Hmmm I think different things work for different people. I know for me, that would be too much, but like you said, if you need that kind of volume to make progress then I am not sure if you have the choice.
Thank you for your thoughts they are apreciated
Sure thing man, i wish I had a better answer for you my friend.
Ironically enough I'm watching this in the middle of the night because I don't sleep well 😏
I heard a zercher squat can be a ok substitute to stones. Thoughts?
I think they are, I just don't really do them because they beat me up for other events I plan on doing that week. If i didn't have access to the other equipment that i use, I would probably have them in my workouts though
Brian Alsruhe thanks Brian
Sure thing man!
Dumb question but I gotta ask. Should I alternate which shoulder I load the stone on? Does it matter?
It doesn't really matter man unless you are going to do thousands of reps. The main drive of the movement stay as the same, it is just which side you catch it on at the last minute. I hope that helps!
Yeah that clears it all up for me, thanks man.
Happy to help brother!
My profile pic is now thanks to your help. You're the best!
That is awesome man, i am humbled.
If your gym has stones they stare at you and taunt you to try and pick them up. One day I will :) Congrats on the PR man! 3am is awesome for RUclips videos lol
Hahaha well, at least they are there waiting! Do you know the weight of the lightest one?
Brian Alsruhe The lightest one I have seen is 135lbs. I believe the heaviest Ive seen is 340lbs.
I bet if you tackied up you would have a shot at the 135lb stone. That is a daily normal weight for the lightweight women's class at strongman events. Maybe if you have some friends who are planning on doing them one day, you should jump in!
Brian Alsruhe That includes getting friends...but I see what you mean and now Im even more tempted. If I do get my hands on the stone I'll post it on Instagram for sure :)
Definitely do so, that would be amazing!
What is ghostbusters?
David Perlich a movie from the 1980s
bruh..
David Perlich trolltrolltrolltrolltrolltrolltrolltroll
Hahaha...Oh man...
Brian Alsruhe, you and I are about the same age, I have one thing to add, bill fucking Murray!!! Seriously one of my favorite movies!!!
Hi Brian
Have you got any advice on how i can convince the gym owner (of the gym i go to) to purchase some sandbags for the gym (I am willing to pay for them)
Hmmm...I am honestly surprised that he wouldn't other than the mess the can create. If he won't let you, then i would have some at your house that you can work with
Has he told you why he won't let you?
Brian Alsruhe Well he said something about lack of space which is total bullshit, because there is a spinning room and the gym has acces to an outside area. Also there is a couple of paths throughout the gym with plenty of lenght to do sandbag carries and stuff
There is a guy i spoke to about it, who seemed open to the idea
Dude, it sounds a lot like you are getting the run around...I'd keep asking. Hopefully they will let you bring some in!
Brian Alsruhe Yep i'm not gonna cave until they throw me out on my knees (joking)
Anyways Thanks
You can get tacky off your hands with babyoil and then use alcohol to get rid off the babyoil. :)
I've heard that man, i will have to check it out! Thanks!
If i am short (5'8) do you think it is even possible for me to lift a 350lb stone onto my shoulder? It looks like you even have some trouble gripping the whole thing
Being short has no real effect when going to your shoulder. And I am only a few inches taller than you and have very short arms. If your crush strength is strong enough then you could definitely do it.
Hi, Brian. I started to watch your videos and saw that you are very attentive with subscribers. I'm brazilian and in some videos is hard to follow what you're saying cause it's too fast. Here you're speaking in a good speed, but the video about conditioning was kind of hard to understand, although I know you need to transmite some emotions and stimulus.
Ps:The automatic subtitles from RUclips really sucks and makes even worse haha
Thank you for all the material, I watched a lot and set my new workout plan.
Hahaha well thank you for watching man! I am sorry that i talk so fast but it is because I am still not comfortable in front of the camera. Hopefully as time goes on it will get better!
yep buckey list
Currently at 230 lbs now my goal is 350lbs
top drawer
Thanks brother, i really appreciate that!
You look like the cover of VanHalen's 5150 album!
Sand bag is gonna be next on my list.
Get some sleep man!!!
Hahaha that's hilarious! Thank you...I think...
Its good until u open the case and see that the guy gets crushed by it!!
Curses!
!!!
Thanks!
!
Thanks!
John Cena vibe with Brian.
I have gotten that a lot
WD40 and baby wet wipe get Tacky gone really quickly.
I've actually heard that about the WD-40. Ive never tried it though, great tip man!
WD-40 works super great for taking off tacky, except if you have bare forearms you'll probably rash, and WD-40 is SUPER cancer causing. I wrap my arms now and use WD-40 on my hands. Baby oil works too, but nearly as well, I'll have to try wipes.
Yea, the whole caner thing would be a bad thing...
