My favorite song of theirs is "My Mother Told Me" which is the sea shanty from Assassin's Creed and a Viking hymn. Geoff gets super low in and that song just builds all the way to the end. You should also check out Geoff's solo work, especially "Sixteen Tons" and "Misty Mountains Cold". He has the most incredible range, but don't take my word for it. Go see it yourself!
Introducing Geoff Foghorn Castellucci--a bass with a 5 octave range. His bass drops are epic. LOL Their version of the Halo theme is jaw dropping and Geoff, the bass, hits his record low note in it. The song is also a tribute to a long time friend of theirs that used to play Halo with them and died this year.
Love you calling Geoff pitch black voice. Hahah that's epic. Many others call him using the dragon speak.. or dragon tongue.... keep doing it bud. You're gonna be blown away!
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is VoicePlay #TheTheatreKidsOfACappella. Geoff (Jeff ) Castellucci who is the bass also has his own channel where he does his own low bass covers. This is also his arrangement.
VoicePlay is great! Back row from the left, the guy with the scarred eye is Cesar (baritone/tenor, joined the group this August), Jose (featured guest), Eli (tenor, also does the lighting for their videos). Front row left is Layne (beatboxer) and right is Geoff (bass, did the arrangement and video for this song and also the lighting together with Eli). Almost all VoicePlay covers are arranged by Layne or Geoff and the one who does the arrangement also does the video. There have been some changes to their members recently, so you might be a bit confused in the beginning. We'll introduce previous members as you meet them in your reactions :-). I recommend If I were a rich man/girl, it's recent so the members are the same as in this song.
Thank you so much for the info Veronica highly appreciated least now I can start to learn there names and faces really means a lot that you took the time out to respond you are a ROCKSTAR
Thanks for that. It builds and build into something spectacular. Stunning. Look for Geoff Castellucci (the bass) as well as VoicePlay. They never make a bad video.
Voiceplay are one of the few acapella groups that do the whoe production. Not only do they have costume, makeup, set and lighting, but in many productions, they even take on the characters. You can see this best in The Little Mermaid Medley featuring Rachel Potter and also in The Oogie Boogie Song that starred Geoff, the bass singer. If you like bass, you'll love that one, crank up that bass and enjoy. If you've just heard Voiceplay for the first time, welcome to the rabbit hole. They are easily the most addictive acapella group out there, always going one better with each production. Their latest The Greatest Showman Medley also featuring Rachel Potter is, in my view, their best yet.
Well, you picked a great one to start with. They really don't have many bad songs. Most of what they have done featured some different faces, so I would recommend looking back at some of their older stuff and working forward again. I would start with Carry on my Wayward Son and Queen in 5 Minutes to get a good sense of their voices and talents. Tennessee Whiskey is another good choice which was mentioned before.
Thanks for your reaction, I enjoyed it. Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Castellucci is the bass (he also has a private channel with both performances and a couple of pieces on how to deepen your range). He also was the arranger on this, and did the video and most of the editing. Eli, the tenor, (pronounced Ell-ee) took lead on lights. Either Geoff or Layne (beatbox) arranges almost all of their songs. Who ever arranges, usually does EVERYTHING except for makeup, costumes, coreography (when needed). No label. They are my favorite a cappella group because they are so mind-blowingly creative. So much variety in what they do. You might want to take a look at Boy Bands in 5 minutes and Tennessee Whiskey to get a sense of their range. Their medleys are spectacular. Rumors are flying that they're about to drop a new medley this Thursday.
I can confirm the rumors. I have heard the Wicked Medley at least 20 times, and it is my favorite medley from them so far. It is releasing on RUclips Thursday. Layne's beatboxing is outrageous, and the harmonies are spectacular.
@@mrelixertv they do quite a few medleys and each one of them is amazing. Hoist the Colours will always be one of my favorites just for the pure drama of it, but the new Wicked medley is pretty wicked! They also do some more conventional singing: Carry On My Wayward son and Man in the Mirror are two of my favorites. They aren’t always this theatrical but the arrangements are always spot on!
My second favorite acapella group. They really get into costume and set the mood for their songs. There is a lot of really good work by them...hope you have fun with them!
The three best bases in popular music - Geoff Castellucci - VoicePlay, Tim Foust - Home Free, Avi Kaplan - formerly PTX now mostly solo original music. Avi is the one who is a trained operatic bass and in composition. Geoff and Tim learned their trade singing. All have strong followings. Geoff has his own RUclips channel. His versions of 16 Tons, House of the Rising Sun, Far over the Misty Mountains, Monster Mash, and The Headless Horseman are all gems. As a group, I suggest VP We're Good, HALO theme, If I were a Rich Man/Woman, and The Little Mermaid Medley (Geoff is painted blue and sings Ursula's song).
Voiceplay was on NBC’s The Sing Off the same year as Home Free and they lost to Home Free. They are a phenomenal group. Geoff (Jeff) is their bass and he arranges a lot of their songs and he even arranges some for Home Free too.
My favorite part is when Jose lifts the sword above his head then lowers it to imitate slicing his next. I usually do it with him with my hand. Second favorite is when Geoff goes low them high. This is an awesome song by Voiceplay. As is all of theirs. Great reaction btw.
Geoff Castellucci lower right basso profundo, Layne lower left beat boxer and baritone, upper left Cesar De La Rosa tenor, center top featured guest Jose Rosario Jr. Tenor, upper right is Eli ( pronounced Ellie, short for Eliezer) tenor.
You picked their best yet to start! Check out Warriors, Carry On Wayward Son, Butter, My Mothrr Told Me, Bang, and Queen in 5 Minutes. Oh, and Little Mermaid Medley! But they didn't actually win the Sing-Off. Home Free won that season. Voice Play has continued to evolve and have gotten better, by leaps and bounds just this past year.
Yes, Voiceplay, Pentatonix and Home Free all appeared on "The Sing-Off". Voiceplay actually lost to Home Free. As someone else already suggested, Voiceplay's cover of "Just Sing" is amazing. And, you definitely want to have the captions turned on for that one. They included information about who everyone is (as well as a few snarky remarks).
They refer to themselves as "the theater kids of acapella" for good reason. If you want another fun, bass centric video, check out Oogie Boogie. It's from The Nightmare Before Christmas, I think you'll enjoy it.
I would strongly recommend Queen in 5 Minutes to hear their individual voices. A couple of those members have left, but the core membership remains. And they have a talent for arranging and sounding terrific with any collaborators they pull in. I would also urge you to listen to True Colors (no beatboxing - they want you to be drawn into the words), Halo (keep it playing through the outro for insight into the group’s background and their reason for choosing that particular music) and The Little Mermaid Medley. And their medley coming out the end of this week is Wicked good!
These guys are some of my favorite vocalists. I always say that there is a trifecta of acapella made up od Pentatonix (the cool kids aka the pop side), Home Free (the comedians and down to earth kids who do country music proud), and Voice Play (the theater kids who kill anything Disney or theatrical). All 3 came to the front on various seasons of The Sing Off. There really is no bad song in any of their catalogues. Voice Play did a terrific collaboration last year with former members and friends called Just Sing (make sure you include subtitles because they tell you who everyone is, and how they connect. The newly formed Bass Gang should be another stop for you if you enjoy this

VP didn't win on the show, because at the time they couldn't figure out how to use their core strengths (particularly the theatrics and voice acting and whatnot) in the context of the show. They were accustomed in that era to doing musical skits (Road Trip, Auditions, A Crimpella, The Chicken Song, etc.), and they couldn't figure out how to turn that into the 3-5 minute pop songs the show runners wanted. So instead they just sang the songs, and it was some of the most boring and forgettable stuff they've ever done. The show even handed them their ideal category ("movie song") on a silver platter, and instead of doing something like this, they just picked a random pop song that _happened_ to have been used in a movie, and just sang it like a regular song. No acting, no theatrics, nothing special. Frankly, they *earned* the loss. However, a little while later, they found a new way to engage their theatrics when they did Phantom of the Opera, and that put them onto the path toward doing the kinds of content they do now. If they'd done on the show the kinds of stuff they do now (even without all the makeup and costuming and sets), they would have blown the judges' socks off and smoked everyone. But they didn't. Honestly, I think it's for the best: if they'd won on the show, they'd have ended up saddled with a record-label contract, and while that undoubtedly would have increased the size of their fan base at the time, I think it also would have held them back, in terms of the quality of their content.

Honestly, I think it's for the best: if they'd won on the show, they'd have ended up saddled with a record-label contract, and while that undoubtedly would have increased the size of their fan base at the time, I think it also would have held them back, in terms of the quality of their content.
