  • John Porte experimented with various types of flying boat hulls, creating the Porte 1 aircraft- the basis of the F.1. and Felixstowe aircraft. The designer also created an extra-large three-engine flying boat. Because of its impressive size, the aircraft received the ironic name Porte Baby (baby of the Port). The hull of the aircraft was covered with sheets of plywood. The crew cabin is closed. The wings (biplane design) had an uneven span. The ship had three engines: lateral pulling, and central- pushing.
During the First World War, German zeppelins, as well as submarines, greatly annoyed the British. The search for ways to detect and destroy enemy equipment has begun. An experiment was carried out on one of the 12 Porte Baby: a seaplane was used as an aeromat. The boat was pre-equipped to carry one Bristol Scout aircraft on the upper wing. On May 17, 1916, the first tests were passed. The carrier aircraft rose to an altitude of 300 meters, where the Scout separated.
