I have a Jackson PC1 and it's the only guitar that I have that don't have to re-tune nearly everyday. It's not a show piece it gets played - a lot for studio session.
I bought one last week (regular PC1, the Walnut is not released yet). It's a magic wand. I had borrowed a Jackson once, I had never owned one. Their signature floating bridge felt foreign at first compared to flush-mounted bridges. I took a chance on this one and I love it. It looks and plays great and it opens up incredible sound possibilities you can't quite get with other guitars.
A few years back I saw a clip of him talking about his Jackson supreme, what a freakin killer guitar, and with this one... this dude and Jackson have come up with some great shit...
Great player, and always has been a great player! Loving the finish on this beauty. She sounds as sweet as ever. I look after one of her elder sisters, whom i bought around 10 or so years ago now. As you would expect, she is a lovely guitar, with the quilted maple top, in the 'solar' finish. Nice to see Phil (and Jackson/Fender) is ever moving forward and evolving the stunning PC1. Nice work Phil. Keep rockin', Mate... \m/ (:o)
No doubt...when he tries to shred...it is just a sloppy mess. His tone is so over processed too. Dont mean to shit all over him but Vivian is hands down the better guitarist in Def Leppard.
@@johnnyrocker7495 Yeah...I really think that is why Viv has put together the Last in Line and a few other side projects simply so he can still rip occasionally....in Leppard he clealry plays the spare tire to Phil (unfortunately) but Viv has been making $$$$$ like mad since taking over for Steve Clark. Personally I haven't been much of a fan since Pete Willis and Steve Clark were the duo. In my opinion Steve Clark was the heart of that band...while his playing was much simpler he brought the riffs and the song writing to the band. I saw them in 81 and was blown away...again in 88....then once in the 90s and each show had gotten less and less interesting. I saw them play as Ded Flatbird which was funny and actually as close to them capturing some of that old fire. I agree with the CC Deville comment. 13-gauge strings 😬 Even tuned down to Eb that’s a pretty unforgiving setup. I’m surprised his fingers aren’t shredded to bits after a few shows. I played 11s in standard tuning for the past 20+ years up till recently, but I’m not playing 2-hour gigs a few times a week. Even now I’ve found that 10s make life so much easier, and I feel like I’ve gained some clarity/snap to my tone.
Even that’s heavy; despite Kerry King’s guitars weighing a lot, he apparently uses 9s in D# scaled 25.5”which are like E on 24.75” that I’m sure some guitars come with. I use 3-sided curvy picks which are usually thicker than others especially compared to true-triangles, so I’ve noticed that it’s better for thicker strings which is why I switched to 10s appropriately following the same principles for other tunings and scale lengths.
Extra wood because of the SC instead of the HB just cracks me up. I build guitars, and the amt of wood you remove for a HB over a SC is just so little that there's no way anyone would EVER be able to tell the difference in tone.
Not much for sure, but the differences in any guitar are less noticeable the more distortion you use; it’s definitely not a reason to go with this pickup arrangement though it is for the tones that the actual pickups make in those positions.
Such a nice guy, always happy to pick the guitar up blast away and chat to folk...what a shame he's not in a band that would actually showcase his (and Vivs) skills properly.

Actually it was Steve who was hugely into both The Police and The Cure. Seeing Phil with yet another PC series, LP bloke myself, it again reminds me of the incalculable loss of the real musical and lyrical genius of Leppard, 'The Riffmaster'. And what Steve might have gone on to do, he was as Phil notes really into Hollywood film music, that kind of stuff, but with all the technology one wonders what Steve would be doing. He was at heart a rock star who oozed cool but classically trained and could shred, Steve played his riffs and melodies with true feeling. Funny seeing all the tricked out shit on this axe cos both the 'Terror Twins' back then knew fuck all about much and just managed to get by with a LOT of help from others. This will not be cheap y'all.
I thought your other Jackson sig's were awesome but OMG this one is so sweet. Love the look of this guitar. I love watching you play too. Can't wait for this guitar to come out.
The sad thing is Jackson won't build you a guitar with similar specs to this PC1 these days. The Custom Shop limits you to what tonewoods you can select for any guitar because they don't have the labor force to built a truly custom guitar. That said, I own four JCS guitars, and they're all great.
Jackson Custom shop are training some new employees to replace the ones that left. This was because the number of messed up Custom shop orders from Europe and maybe elsewhere. Had this action to limit orders from Europe not been taken customers could wait possibly four years for their instrument so the decision was taken to limit European orders to the Custom Select option for now.
Funny thing is he all to sign every one of them that that come from the factory when you order it not with the logo decal on it ought to be hand sign by him and numbered.
They’re really bassy; Dimarzio lists the EQ curve like Seymour Duncan usually does, but I’m curious how pickups like that would sound straight with the bridge instead of angled.
Mr .Collen you should release an e.p. or full length instrumental record. Get Mr. Mike varney as the executive producer. I'll play bass for you if needed. thanks again for the music.
Why wouldn't you go a neck thru when you've got Jackson building for you??! Who wants a great bulky Fender-style steel block in the middle of your shred zone?? It's otherwise awesome!
i could care less if a famous person like him is a little sloppy live and i’m pretty sure that this is a good pickup even if his newer taste in tone is distorted and trebly
All these years later and he still cannot play the opening riff of sugar correctly!! Lol,if you have ever watched that movie about Def Leppard you might know what I am talking about. It was when Steve and Phil really were not getting along that well when Phil first joined. Phil was more into glam and funky stuff while Steve was just bare bones rock and roll. Phil is showing Steve this opening riff to this song he and Joe had been working on. Phil plays it as you hear him doing on stage now and as he did in this video. LOLOL Steve takes the guitar away and says something like, " We play rock and roll music not that disco shit, this is how that part should go..." then Steve proceeds to play it as you hear it on the original album version and it rocks!! While I think Phil is a great guitar player, probably better than Steve was at least technically, Steve will always be the driving force that got Def Leppard noticed and made them successful. After his sad death Def Leppard started playing more watered down songs and tried to appeal more to their female fan base. Steve would have that Les Paul slung low while Phils Jackson was almost up to his chest lol. I would watch Steve play and wonder how in the hell can he play with it that low, but he did and he did it well!! RIP Steve, I miss you every time I see Def Leppard play. I am glad DL got into the hall of fame, they certainly deserve to be and at a time when many bands were going the way of effeminate players DL stuck to their classic rock roots and you did not see them wearing makeup and dying their hair. Someone said that it was Guns and Roses that brought that look back into style, I say for Def Leppard fans, that look never left!! How the heck Phil can play without his shirt on and not get strap rash still boggles my mind lol. This is a sweet guitar and I love that Walnut cap! He didn't mention that it also seems to be using gold fret bars which is really nice! Iam not a shredder type of guitar player and like Steve I never got into the whole whammy bar craze, but I do think you can get some cool sounds out of that floyd rose he has on there!
@John Timmins - The next time you decide to attempt at being rude to someone, I suggest you read what you typed so it makes sense. But I think I will address the point you are attempting to make. First of all, have you seen the Def Leppard Bio Pic I was speaking? If you have not then we have no common ground. In that movie Phil plays it as you hear him play it in this video we are commenting on, Steve plays it the way he says it will be played since Def Leppard is a rock band and not a glam band. Now if you listen to how Phil plays it here in this video and then listen to the studio version played by Steve when they recorded the album, you will hear a difference - go and do that and then see if it still warrants your rude, immature and poorly worded response to me.
@John Timmins lol no only I tend to think people should write somewhat intelligently. Read what you originally said to me, maybe you will figure out what I'm talking about .
Dude this is false information in a video where there backstage with Phil he said that his guitar was used for the pour some sugar on me lick that he played so he played it and in the movie Phil and Steve played it the same way Phil just made one little mistake
I actually like Phil’s shredding it’s very unique and he’s my favorite player but I won’t lie I do think he had a little bit too much gain for this when he was shredding other than that perfect
I dunno if it was a bad day or he had an ear infection, but I didn’t think any of those tones were good. The Sugar Chakra sounded all thin and nasty, in a bad way. Like burning tin foil. Everything sounded like it has way too much treble.
Such a cool guy. But so weird that ever since that Photograph solo he's been doing that mutant fast picking which isn't properly in time with his fretting hand....yet he clearly doesn't realise.
That's his one shred lick. And as u correctly say, he's been doing it since Photograph. When Leppard chose him to replace Willis, he won the lottery. Total bluffer of a player with his never-ending harmonics and whammy bar histrionics.
Yeah I can kind of appreciate a Chris Holmes or a Mick Mars....they don't over-promote themselves because they know their limits....but Collen seems to genuinely believe in his own hype, which is more than a touch awks.

Funny seeing all the tricked out shit on this axe cos both the 'Terror Twins' back then knew fuck all about much and just managed to get by with a LOT of help from others. This will not be cheap y'all.
Awesome !!!
Dude seems to have been in the shed! Lovely guitar.
Phil should jam with Andy Summers since he likes so much to play "Every Breath You Take".
Love the look of the guitar but at 10,000 dollars Canadian, im going to have to pass, Sorry Phil.
Ouch! Bit of a bummer, no matter what currency you're in!
Dave Hill That buys a hell of a lot of Tm Horton’s coffee.
Gotta love Phil Collen. He is the greatest Guitarist and Vocalist of all time. Also very humble 😍😍
I thought your other Jackson sig's were awesome but OMG this one is so sweet. Love the look of this guitar. I love watching you play too. Can't wait for this guitar to come out.
Sorry Phil.........shredding is not your thing........it felt it was a Spinal Tap video.
Yes its horrible.Phil can play but not fast and he always does it when he does these demos which is a shame.
He's just messing around. I don't understand what the problem is. It's not a guitar tutorial. Seriously folks.
@@frasiercraine1776 you are so apologetic it cringes.
I have yet to see a review over those guitar pick-ups.
very stale tone...knew it had to be a 5150iii
Majin Blood He practices on a fender cybertwin. That's why the gain is so buzzy
Phil is the best guitarist
3:25 oh my god !! He looks exactly like sting
Phil Cullen demos his "sledgehammer to crack a walnut" signature model!
Sloppy as fuck on fast runs but hey.. He’s the rock star!
proving once again that jeff beck is the only one who understands what a whammy bar is for.
No Beck isn't the only one, David Gilmour could give a master class on using the whammy bar.
Way too much gain
Way too much complaining...
All the gain!
Says who? No one said you had to play with that much gain. That's the way he plays.. who are you to say what's too much?
Nah it's not too much gain that's how it's supposed to be
@Garegh62 are you familiar with pyromania and everything after?
I'm gonna have to sell my house to buy that
❤️
Can Phil really shred? Or is it just one lick he plays in these demos?
Yup. Same lick since 1983. It comes at the end of the Photograph solo and he never misses an opportunity to play it.
@@johnnyrocker7495 dude he’s demoing a guitar he doesn’t have to show off every shred lick he knows plus a lot of guitar players use that shred lick
Uh oh...opens up the wood tone debate. "We actually got some more wood in there so it's extra tone"
He even wore that loud-ass shirt to match the gold theme.
Funny thing is he all to sign every one of them that that come from the factory when you order it not with the logo decal on it ought to be hand sign by him and numbered.
It seems like the original pc1 sounds better
They’re really bassy; Dimarzio lists the EQ curve like Seymour Duncan usually does, but I’m curious how pickups like that would sound straight with the bridge instead of angled.
Oh this guitar is on ebay now. This signed one
Phil shredding is not your bag stick to song and emotion.
exactly! Saw phil share the stage with Paul gilbert, Steve vai, and Joe Satriani....and he looked so out of place!
I want one
Extra wood for extra tone. Uhhhhh ok. Nice to see he owns a shirt at least!
Mr .Collen you should release an e.p. or full length instrumental record. Get Mr. Mike varney as the executive producer. I'll play bass for you if needed. thanks again for the music.
best comment ever rofl
'i usually use gauge 13-54' yikes. no wonder he can't play fast
Anyone who played/owns this, is it worth the price? Thanks
See nobody owns
Why wouldn't you go a neck thru when you've got Jackson building for you??! Who wants a great bulky Fender-style steel block in the middle of your shred zone??
It's otherwise awesome!
agree
Cough Cough... $8K!!!! Damm!
i could care less if a famous person like him is a little sloppy live and i’m pretty sure that this is a good pickup even if his newer taste in tone is distorted and trebly
Does this mean Phil will get a copyright strike as well? lol
Was...Was that an attempted sweep?
Кто после Фрэда гитариста пришел посмотреть на этого "виртуоза"?
Without Mutt around anymore Phil is just out of control with his shredding. Back to his old ways before Lep.
That's from a fucking movie. That movies took a lot of liberties, so I'm sure that scene wasn't how shit really went down.
Dude this is false information in a video where there backstage with Phil he said that his guitar was used for the pour some sugar on me lick that he played so he played it and in the movie Phil and Steve played it the same way Phil just made one little mistake
Phil could totally be part of The Police
Pickups sound thin and too bright.
TalkShowHost that‘s exactly what I thought lol
How do you know it’s the pickups and not amp settings?
Have you by any chance compared the Sugar Chakra with the Fast Track 2? They have very similar specs.
Over $8k! Holy crap that's excessive!
"more wood in there so extra tone". right
well it doesn’t make much of a difference
Loved the black guitar he used in pyromania. I wish he or someone could send me one. I been one since I was 14
Show me the money!
Over $8000? Are you insane??
You can literally buy an USA Charvel Guthrie Govan model for 1/3 of the money, buy a good amp and still have money left.
He just said strat
He's cornered the market for tasteful clothes and attire ;)
Who are these people looking at me😂😂😂
Great guitar but way out of my price range.
For every 1 fretted note he picks between 2 and 3 1/2 times. FACT.
Must be a shitty amp cause it sounded good live with the axe fx
13-54...WHAT
