- If your third-party ink is not working try to see if this video will help. My ink stopped working after a recent firmware update. These are my own experiences and personal opinions. I am not responsible if your printer stops working after following these instructions. Thank you for watching.

I’m guessing those of us who have just installed the firmware update are now out of luck?? I can’t seem to find the old firmware anywhere. :/ I ignored the update for about a year and now I guess I’m stuck buying the expensive Epson ink… ugh
Here is an easier way.
1. Download the Firmware Update version H285TL from driverscollection.com/?H=XP-7100&By=Epson
2. Boot the printer to Program Update Mode as in the video at 1:53
3. Run the .exe you downloaded in step 1 on the computer connected by USB to the printer
4. Wait the the LCD on the printer to day FINISHED and give a checksum for ROM1 and ROM2
5. I waited a long time after that, the power button blinked but nothing looked like it was happening. The power button didn't shut it off, I unplugged it and plugged it back in. It started up fine and I could use 3rd party ink again.

1. This has been the best discovery. I am on a MAC 10.14.6, and I followed the above directions until got to recovery mode. 2. Then I used Activity Monitor to delete the current running firmware process, BEFORE PUSHING finish.
3. I then installed your suggested: Firmware Update version H285TL from driverscollection.com/?H=XP-7100&By=Epson and TA DA.
4. A few minutes later my machine shut off
5. I turned it on and I can print again.
I really appreciate everyone's help. I will NEVER update the firmware again.
My printer is in the update mode per the video above, but the updater from your link cannot find it? Please help!

I have tried everything to get me XP7100 into recovery mode and it wont do it.
I can get it into update mode. Ive tried to do an update and unplug it but it just restarts when i plug it back in. Please help...

Did you have to go into recovery mode or can you just download the firmware FW_YL31K1?
@@Shakes0214 Yes, the printer had to be in recovery mode in order to downgrade the firmware. It's actually easy to set the printer in recovery mode. Just plug in the USB, open any firmware update, while the printer is updating and the power button is blinking, unplug the USB cable. Once you turn the printer back on, it will be in recovery mode.
@@curtiswng did you use FW_YL31K1 to get it into the recovery mode and subsequently download it to use the 3rd party ink? If so, did you use the one on the Epson website?
@@Shakes0214 I used the FW_YL31K downloaded from the Epson website, and that's how I got my printer downgraded in recovery mode. Prior to that, I used a 3rd party firmware and my printer gave me an error.

My XP-7100 box has the following statement “Printer is designed for use with Epson cartridges only, not third-party cartridges or ink” does that mean I can’t downgrade at all?
Found an article that was very clear with links to the old firmware!! Worked quickly and easily. The only instruction missing was how to get into product update mode, which Rob V has given us that secret.
- go to this article and scroll down to the section titled "How to Revert or Perform an Epson Firmware Downgrade for Expression Series Printer" --> www.comboink.com/epson-firmware-downgrade
- in step 1, use Rob V's instruction to hold down the power button and the right corner of the screen until the light comes on and the screen reads it's in update mode
- download the old firmware from the Driver's Collection link in the article step 2
- make sure your PC is connected to the printer via USB
- execute the downloaded firmware file and follow the instructions
- the online screens said "finished" but the printer didn't look like it had done anything, but I just waited a few minutes and the printer screen finally said "finished"
- I disconnected the power to the printer, waited a few seconds, reconnected...and it worked! when the printer started back up, it was like the old days!

i did as written, once it started flashing and said finished i turned it off, then turned it on again but now keeps beeing and says there is an error with the scanner and dopesn't allow me to go further any help

Greetings all - Like many of you that have suffered from this garbage recently - I had issues finding a firmware that would work. After about 10 hours of work I found the YL22J8 firmware at epsonsupportdownload.blogspot.com/2019/12/epson-expression-premium-xp-7100-driver.html (This links back to the Epson FTP site and gives you the firmware from Sept 2019. For some reason all the other firmware have been removed - but not that one. So get it while you can as it was able to work for me. (Side note: Driverscollection firmware will cause your printer to have error code 031002 come up continuously - so do not use)

And yes this is true that the drivercollection firmware kept giving me that error code. I almost gave up lol
i don't get it, what i have to with this old fw now, i did as did in the video and used this old fimrware instead but still beeps with scanner error. so i have tp try and update with old firmware and when it's finished ,i have to unplug the usb cord or the power one?
My XP-7100 is currently with FW YL12KB, that's not letting 3rd party ink to be recognised!
I think this only will work if you don't' already have the latest firmware. Mine does, so I can't start a firmware update. I wish there was some other way to get into recovery mode!!!
i managed to do get on firmware recovery, but after that it won't get back to previous firmware, and now i am stuck with error about scanner not usable

I am on a mac and I can not find FW_YL31K1 and I am standing in recovery mode. any Help Please?
I am currently trying this but when i downloaded the Espon Firmware updater, it is telling me under status: Downgraded(it cannot be updated). Any idea what that means? Thanks for any help!

Since I just downloaded the latest firmware and that is why it won't accept my ink cartridges, I cannot get to update mode as it has the most current firmware and your trick a that point won't work for me. Is there any other way to get to recovery mode please?

Does this only mean that if you do not use the original colors, the printer will not recognize them?
I've tried several times....I think that I did not pull the cord to stop it fast enough....Now it says that "Update Mode Finished" .....before I could get it to go into Recovery mode. How do I get it thereafter....?
Cedric Pendleton you need to retry the update again and disconnect it while the light is blinking.

I updated my previous firmware by deleting my printer and using my original cd. It still doesn't work. What is your firmware? Mine is Yll3.1 or something like that. The update is what stopped it from working. The Y311yl or whatever from 7.2020. Are you suggesting that I do a recovery mode, even though my firmware has resorted to the old one? My inks are not being recognized although they were prior to updating to 7/2020 firmware.
You may have a different issue. This is for printers that have 3rd party ink and when updated the ink is no longer being recognized.
Please someone who has compassion on me and send me the firmware I can't get the old ones
So you are updating the recovery firmware from epsons site and interupting that by cutting the power to enter recovery mode.
.next step is to install old firmware..... but where are you getting the old firmware from???
The old firmware as of right now is still on their support website for the xp7100. It is under “Firmware”. The firmware version is YL31K1 as of 7/27/20. Or you can visit this page orpys.com/en/ to download many previous firmware versions for different printers.
THAT COST MONEY! Where can we get them for free???
Joe Naiser yea I actually used that page to verify the firmware that came before the new one that I installed. I used the epson website to download the previous firmware since it was still up. I can’t find another website to download previous firmwares. I will keep on looking.
I've tried finding the software that has been noted in the comments field, but seems that they no longer exist. I found this page with software downloads but don't know which one to choose from. Can anyone help me? Thanks driverscollection.com/?spage=1
I have exactly the same problem. When I restart using the method you show I get “Epson Device. ROM IPL Update Mode YL03”. Any ideas on how to move forward?
marian Chotowetz you will have to download the Epson Recovery Mode Firmware from their support site. Connect your printer using a printer usb cable and install the firmware. Disconnect when it starts to blink quickly while it is installing that firmware. You may have to try multiple times to get it to recovery mode.
I finally gave up trying to do the recovery & bought a Canon all in one for $39.00 including ink. I wasn’t sure if buying the expensive Epson ink would solve the problem & then I would be stuck with ink and a broken printer. I’m beginning to think that printers are becoming disposable because of the cost of ink!

Is the scan resolution changeable? So that the files don't get too big.

@@RobV5 Great video! On the link you shared, there are 11 files (drivers) for windows 10 64 bit. Which one would allow the firmware to go back to factory setting? or as early as possible to let 3rd party inks work? thanks!
