Not really, four drs zones i think are gonna be better. You wont have that crazy scenarios like in saudi arabia because there are two detection zones for four drs zones, plus you have two divebomb possibilities in four drs zones: turn 1 and turn 11
2 problems with 4 DRS zones: 1. Drivers won't have a chance to break out of a car's DRS zone, because 2 corners after passing someone with DRS, there's another zone for them to catch up with. Even a car with a significant pace advantage will struggle to get more than 1s ahead of the car behind. 2. With only 2 detection points and half of the lap driven with DRS, who gets DRS will be even more important, and we could see more shinannigans at the detection points.
I've been thinking about this as well. Kinda stupid to give DRS for two zones when the driver might be not even close to eligible for it on the later one. This would at least make it a tactical choice instead, though having DRS from quarter of a lap earlier would still be kinda stupid.
As someone who just started watching full time in the middle of the 2020 season, I'm excited to see a race in Australia and it will be really interesting for those of us who live in the west coast of the US as the race will start at 10pm on Saturday night.
All these improved overtaking spots, plus FOUR DRS zones, and cars that can follow extremely closely through high speed corners… I’m predicting one of the best races of the whole season!
I was at the track yesterday and can confirm all categories have had the pit limit increased to 80... They reckon it will take only 12.6 seconds to drive through it now......
What they've essentially done is remove/reduce most of the braking zones. Tough to overtake when there's very little braking. Which also explains why they've decided to go for 4 DRS-zones at the last minute.
Yes and no. The braking zones they've removed were never really overtaking spots to begin with because there wasn't enough track leading up to them. There are now less braking zones, but the ones that remain are on paper a lot more likely to be overtaking spots than they were before because of lengthier straights going into them; and in addition some of them have been tightened up, meaning the braking is now heavier there. Theoretically it's all good for overtaking, just have to see how it works out now.
Maybe have 4 DRS zones but only allow 1 use of DRS in a lap. Or perhaps only have DRS available to cars who are more than a second back. The DRS then being used to get cars back within overtaking distance rather than just handing them the position.
Recently went to a swimming carnival that was right next to the track! The bus that we arrived on actually parked on the track itself. It looked so cool and I can’t wait for the race!

I'm hoping these changed does make the track better for racing (although the now excessive use of drs zones is just asking for another "drs chicken part 3") but they heavily altered/removed my two favorite parts of the circuit (turn 6 and the 9/10 chicane) so I'm a little bummed by that. Agreed on that one. Really remember the Aussie GP for turns 1, 6 and 9, and the "Melbourne-esque" exit from those onto 2, 7 and 10. Hopefully the racing will make that worth it, but I still think the new section after turn 6 just doesn't feel like Melbourne anymore...
Having watched the Aussie v8 supercars and they have been struggling around turn 5 and going into the wall and 6-11 is amazing and looking like they have heaps of grip and would definitely be a side by side racing through there

Yes us Aussies have to spend the majority of the F1 season with our eyes feeling like they have pieces of glass in them due to the crazy hours we need to stay awake to watch them. The only thing harder than being a F1 driver is being an Aussie F1 fan trying to stay up and watch all the action.
4 DRS zones take away from the special effect/excitement/anticipation of the use of DRS. At this rate, where the entire track is a big DRS hot zone, it's safe to remove it and just go racing the old fashioned way.
No it's not safe to remove, as much as these cars have improved in being able to follow in dirty air, they still aren't fully capable of making a full blown overtake without DRS, maybe down the line if they keep improving these regs, they could remove it, and I'm all for it, but as of now they still need DRS
If the cars do in fact get down to the 1:15’s, the average lap speed in qualifying will be over 156 mph (250 km/h). That will make it the third fastest circuit of the year behind Monza and Jeddah- only about half a mile an hour slower than Jeddah.
Get rid of DRS I'd say - change the regs to force cars to be more draggy and thus benefiting greatly from a slipstream. It's better than playing chicken at DRS detection zones. I'd take slower lap times over DRS any day
Why did they change turn 6 I loved that corner so much... Yeah true, overtaking not really but just about on the limit to sliding into the wall was sooooo satisfying...
What everyone forgets about this is that it's a public road, these changes have been massive inconveniences to everyone who lives there as they blocked off the roads for months
Removing 9/10 will just transfer the spread of the field to 11 and 12. Truth is i don't think it will help much, at least not as much as the 4 drs zones, even with the new cars. I'm not an expert and i could most definitely be wrong but at the end of the day i don't think that f1 will change that much without a more profound alteration of the race rules. Imo making DRS a quota during the race, where, the furthest you are from first place, the more you can use it; would most certainly change things up. That way slower cars gain time on the leading cars in the straights (+coincidently helps with porpoising) That would be an impactful change. Because when you think about it, all those changes we got for 2022 don't make overtaking easier on an absolute scale, it does it relatively compared to how much harder it was made due to the way the cars produced dirty air previously. Those rules try to achieve a net neutral in an absolute scale, which they maybe came close to doing. Following cars are always going to be slower in a corner, because the driver doesn't have clear visibility of his braking point, etc and more generaly has to react to what happens in front. Wanting the field to be close together in a sport where hard to change engineering tricks dictate 95% of the race pace is litteraly working against the nature of the sport and what said nature implies on track. So if you want it, you have to create rules going against the nature of the sport, ie, giving an advantage to slower car (which classic drs does, but in a fainter way than what i proposed above.) Don't get me wrong, i want the field to be closer, don't take me for one of those purists that want it the way it was 20 years ago. I'm just saying that shallow changes aren't necessarily going to make it that much better. I might totally be wrong but those are my thoughts.
oh wow. This is looking really really exciting. Mclaren with a solid chance it seems! If their strategists can be smart this time we can expect a good result

Personally I feel that the changes are unnecessary except for 1 & 3, i can let 11 and 13 slide a little, but maybe for the old 9-10 chicane, they could have widened it, but getting rid of it all together? Nah, that ain't for me.
@@AB-ho1lt Well, that's how things go. Whether this ends up working well or not is a mystery, but if this ends up being way too powerful for the drivers using DRS, we might end up seeing a more obvious DRS chicken game before every DRS detection zone.

If the cars do in fact get down to the 1:15’s, the average lap speed in qualifying will be over 156 mph (250 km/h). That will make it the third fastest circuit of the year behind Monza and Jeddah- only about half a mile an hour slower than Jeddah.
An 80kph pit speed.... well this will be interesting 😋😋😋 delicious F1! Delicious 2022 season 😋 😄😄
I think they should have kept turns 9-10 and taken out the next chicane to have a longer run down to the new turn 12 which is tighter.
From the amount of DRS zones I’m guessing leclare and verstappen are going to shorten the lap time by 1-1.2 seconds
Get rid of DRS I'd say - change the regs to force cars to be more draggy and thus benefiting greatly from a slipstream. It's better than playing chicken at DRS detection zones. I'd take slower lap times over DRS any day
More DRS, faster corners, Lewis on the podium......Now that's a good weekend. Russell wins his first GP. Now that would be brilliant.
For a F1 fan
1 week is like a year
Yeah, same but especially 2 weeks or the summer break in F1!
Why did they change turn 6 I loved that corner so much...
Yeah true, overtaking not really but just about on the limit to sliding into the wall was sooooo satisfying...
OMG, you mixed Imperial and Metric! Savage!
It's weird, all the talk about widening corners and tracks not being able to pass on. Why not just make the cars more narrow again? 🤔
me also thinks the same thing. cars nowadays too big & heavier
this race is gonna be mental
What everyone forgets about this is that it's a public road, these changes have been massive inconveniences to everyone who lives there as they blocked off the roads for months
1 quick stupid question from where can I watch the race live?
According to the F1 word's Australia gp preview the pit lane speed limit has been increased.
Tbh, the old T9-10 might have been good given they sped up T6 but we’ll see, excited nonetheless
Seems more flowing and hopefully less boring. Go Ricciardo! 🏁🏎
I hope this sort of video will be as interesting for the Belgium GP than it was was for Australia.
Or did they just change that one Eau Rouge corner?
Let's be honest here. We all used the new layout back in the days of EA Sports F1 series 🤣
The time is great for me! All during the day
All I know is.
PUMPERNICKEL.
So if you want it, you have to create rules going against the nature of the sport, ie, giving an advantage to slower car (which classic drs does, but in a fainter way than what i proposed above.)
Don't get me wrong, i want the field to be closer, don't take me for one of those purists that want it the way it was 20 years ago. I'm just saying that shallow changes aren't necessarily going to make it that much better. I might totally be wrong but those are my thoughts.
oh wow. This is looking really really exciting.
Mclaren with a solid chance it seems! If their strategists can be smart this time we can expect a good result
Merc will be on the Podium with the changes of the car i think
Guy who made the changes: let's make bad boi thicc mates!
F1 fans: We hate Las Vegas because there are no turns.
Also F1 fans: YES get rid of all these corners in Australia
To me, the Australian GP has always been like Monaco without the prestige of qualifying on Saturday.
the real season opener
Sounds like the track is getting up to speed as the new cars should be much faster as well.
would be nice if you had actual graphics for the changes so they would be better visible...
"We won't be seeing any overtakes in the pitlane" - Sebastian Vettel has entered the chat
4 drs zones is nuts
Glad that we are back.... let's go Aussie Aussie Aussies 😄😄 hoping for all the success for folks down under with this new track.
Can't wait .....

They are one of the best concerts, you can not go but just seeing them from the screen, I know it was surprising
💗❤️💌💘
Im okay with widening the corners but removing turn 7 completely to make a huge straight is just useless, let’s race at an oval at this point. Albert park is one of the most beautiful circuits, the more corners the better the track. Let’s stop trying to make this become nascar…
Agreed...
Personally I feel that the changes are unnecessary except for 1 & 3, i can let 11 and 13 slide a little, but maybe for the old 9-10 chicane, they could have widened it, but getting rid of it all together? Nah, that ain't for me.
3:25 sad seb noises
If you overtake with the first of the 2 drs zone, are you still allowed to use the drs, even though you completed the overtake?
Yes. You can still use DRS on the second DRS zone even if you overtake on the first one.
@@SenkaPress for me thats wrong, like that you have passed the opponent and you also have the opportunity to put yourself at more than a 1 sec gap
@@AB-ho1lt Well, that's how things go. Whether this ends up working well or not is a mystery, but if this ends up being way too powerful for the drivers using DRS, we might end up seeing a more obvious DRS chicken game before every DRS detection zone.
Pit lane speed limit is now faster than most of the country's roads.
I'm sorry to point this out, but it's raining in Melbourne at the moment.
Damn. When you have to use miles just to slap out a meme at the end, appreciated the effort.. now please, lets get back to metric haha
That's gonna be a banger.:)
I just Hope for this season there Will be les of those consécutive DRS zones to avoid passing, repassing …..
what i want to know is; is the floor effect enough for the cars to drive upside down like that
I think just flipping the front wing to the other side should be enough to help out!
@@8thlvlMage good point, consider my worries settled
My first thought after hearing the changes was that they clearly wanted higher speed. 4 DRS zones i do NOT like atall. There is supposed to be some lvl of skill involved in overtaking and not just pushing a button after every 3rd corner. Unless Red Bull has a mechanical issue coming this Sunday i am expecting 2 Red Bulls at the top of the podium. Red Bulls engine is already the fastest on the grid and with 4 DRS zones i cant se Ferrari ever managing to brake away.
