I grew up in Ilkley. It was some time around late 1997, and we could never work out what this song was or how it had managed to sneak onto the jukeboxes of every pub in the town. Turns out Gomez had rented a house there - small provincial town with a population of under 15,000 - and had managed to sneak their album, prior to commercial release, onto the jukeboxes. Chances are, I was standing right next to the band in the pub on many occasions when this weird tune came on.
I discover the Gomez with my former girlfriend. I've being in the local musical scene of my town all my life hanging 'round with musicians and when I found them, the very first time, was like a shock. Today I follow Ben Ottewell every time he play live solo. All this pandemy he keep me company in somehow. ^_^ Love life to The Gomez !

One of the most brilliant debut albums of all time. Seemed almost impossible to surpass, then they delivered that OMG moment with 'liquid Skin'. BRING IT ON!
I can remember watching mtv really late one night and this debut i loved it straight away and i said to myself this band is gonna take off big time, went down to the record shop (feels weird writing that lol) and asked for a copy, they said i was the second person to ask about it and they said it was going to be released the following week. They took my number to call me soon as it came in ,it seemed like the longest wait ever but soon as that call came in i was straight down there and bought a copy for 99p on tape what a bargain !!! Took it home put stereo on full blast rolled a massive joint of white window and off i went into the world of Gomez and what a world and what a ride its been!! 1 of my all time favourite bands ever, i showed absolutely everybody this band and everybody who heard them loved them instantly!! My dad brought me up to respect true live bands so as you can imagine i grew up listening to the greats such as zepplin ,hendrix, who, pink floyd etc so when i i tried to introduce my dad to new music which was around at that time he wouldnt of given it a second chance trust me lol but when he heard this tune, well that was a different story!!! he actually bought the album the day it came out thats how much he loved it!! Me on the other hand ,well i had to wait till my pay day to get mine but it was well worth it coz finally i could share some amazing new music with my old man my hero my dad r.i.p loves ya dad xxx.......
I’ve been following these guys since 1999, and it kills me that they haven't had the success that they deserved. Whereas the likes of Coldplay and Adele are worshipped here and in the States, FFS!!!
Oh my the memories - I trained for so many marathons with this tune in my walkman, then my iPod ...great tune for creating cadence for endurance running
This is the first I've heard of this band and this song. Does that mean I've wasted my life? So many jewels hidden in the mud. There's not enough hours in the day....
Be interesting to hear how they managed to get Toby Jones in the video, great show by Ben and Ian last night in Liverpool, much love and keep the music coming guys
Toby Jones has amazingly eclectic musical tastes, and has been spotted in many a specialist record shop, from Paris to Prague, from Birmingham to Budapest. And what an amazing actor. Just watched him (here) in Witness for the Prosecution - stunning.
Always been knew of my favourite Gomez tracks and this is a great stripped back version of it! 👌🏻 will never know how they didn’t rule the world. So under appreciated
Fun story, an aunt of mine knows toby jones, she used to go to the same banjo classes. He said he loved being a part of this video because it was very much like a kieslowski film
bangin tune. saw u boys in LA house of blues with our yankee mates, blindin gig. loved you and made us feel back at home and proved to our mates that UK produces the best musical talent in the world. peace out homies.
Aww man! This brings back memories. I never was into these at the time but i'm just downloading the bands that i saw at my first festival at v99. looking back and hearing this...man!,The good times are hard to hold.
Thank you for being the most inspirational soundtrack to my travelling years through Europe! Loved seeing you in Perth West Aus at the Blues and Roots. It was a dream come true! Please make more music!.. if you want to.
not enough hours in our life.....we like lovin' you...i know why we should.... i never realized there was a vid made for this and now that i'm seeing it i gotta say--it really brings the existentialism out---it also calls to mind the more playful brit bands of the 60's like dave clark 5--the ones who liked to mess with the viewers as well as playing their happy sounding song! but maybe that's just me. love the guy having to literally force himself onto escalator and when you see him arriving!
For those who don’t know. Manchester Piccadilly .... what they are singing about. Is a railway station... obviously in Manchester. In the South East of the city. You can go to Wales, Scotland, Sheffield , Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol, Bournemouth, lots of places. From there.
Lost track of these guys after the first two albums but by golly they were fuckin' talented. Also kids, that thing that says 'Save Thyself' at 2:40 is a PAGER. It was a very slow, one-line-at-a-time precursor to Whatsapp.Only self-important people had them.
