i remember the first time I heard them was on much music just before or after the release of bring on it. Changed the course of my life musically. Never heard anything like it before and it opened me up to other great bands from that era like built to spill and smog cat power back when they weren’t such common names. Helped build up a small sense of confidence in myself as I knew of things most didn’t at that point. But now I’m just happy others can share in this joy also. Cuz that’s what it about. Sharing in joy.
I saw them in Tdot back in June . My wife was in labor the night of the show and she still told me go and see them. I made home in time to drive her to the hospital and have a baby girl. What a great day !
Been probably their biggest fan right from the beginning, it fills me full of joy to still see them now, and to have grown old with them, they feel like old friends who have been with me through all of life's trials and tribulations despite me not really knowing them!! I did manage meet to Ben on a couple of occasions and the highlight of that was pinching a pint of Cyder from his rider before saying hello, in fairness to him he was well cool about it!!.........Boy's if you ever read this, I just want to thank you for giving my Wife and I a soundtrack for our lives together xx
Wonderful recording. Also, it's really nice to have a host who isn't an insufferable git who's all about self-promotion. Cheryl Waters just comes across as really genuine and pleasant in a way you just don't ever seem to get anywhere.
Gomez seem like fugazi in a sense. Just happy to play music to whoever wants to listen regardless of fame and money. I respect that and love how humble they are amoungst theyre beautifully engrossing catalogue of songs.
@@thetotaldepravity Because the music press could not put them into a category.......in my mind I would rather be poor and misunderstood than rich and sold out.
Every musician in this band is a world of talent on it's own but they work so well together.. and this live version is so tight!! Still one of my favorite of all times.
I love this. I hadn't listened to Gomez for a while but just put on Bring it on and it all came flooding back. Their creativity, musicianship and tasted soared above pretty much anyone else at the time, but they were so low key it was easy to miss them. They come across as pure musical souls, just in it for the pleasure of making music. A lot of parallels with the early Band: the sense of being a collective, the three convincing lead singers, the versatility and the unassailable songs that couldn't come from anyone else. And unlike the Band they apparently haven't been ruined by egos and drugs. It's a better world with them in it.
Must have listened to Bring it On a hundred times when I was a kid and had a tiny cd collection of about 20 albums. I would sing along with Ben's vocals (just happens to fit my voice so I don't think I was that bad) when nobody was home but me.
I saw them live performing at Milan, Italy in 1999. I was there on a concert with an English friend of mine, who showed me their first record. Till that time I am fan of band. Their music is amazing, timeless.
I made a mix CD for a girl I liked and put Free To Run on it, with a note of it being one of the most uplifting, beautiful songs I’ve ever encountered - especially the middle 8>end. I later found out she used it as study music where she was at uni, and still has the CD. We’re married with 3 kids now, and this is still as beautiful, just like her. ❤
Massive fan. Excellent live recording. Saw them several times in Australia (their second home) during the Olympics and got a set list. Not too many bands are better live than on CD, but Gomez never fails to deliver. Time to get some vinyl...
Like a fine wine just getting better with age ... I remember listening to this album on day of release and it’s stood the test of time and it’s great hearing them playing it live again .. 20 years thou man feeling my age now prostrate wrinkles here we come ...
Bring It On is still a masterpiece. Everything up to In Our Gun was pretty flawless imo. Even their b sides were awesome. I saw them around In Our Gun and won't ever forget it. 78 Stone Wobble was the first thing I heard during college and it was released on a Big issue birthday CD didn't sound like anything else at the time, or since really. Pop brilliance! Then they won the Mercury Prize absolutely incredible. No wonder RY Cooder triumphed them so confidently
Love Gomez, such a talented and diverse band. Seen them live back in 1999, but it good to see this recording. Free To Run is gorgeous, and Whippin' Picadilly is awesome.
I moved to Australia last year and they were playing the bring it on set the week I moved, awesome to see live after listening to it for the last 20 years. Can't wait for the liquid skin tour this year. Timeless
That was freaking fantastic. Saw them many years ago with Josh Ritter, who is also brilliant, at The Orange Peel here in Asheville, NC. They sound so good. I wish they'd tour again.
Used to listen to gomez on the train from chester. Couldn’t remember the name of the band but just found it. Wow. Listening to these tunes is like a time machine to my late teens
I watched them play at Exeter university back when In Our Gun had just been released. ...I loved how they all just played whatever instrument was needed at the time, and taking turns singing song to song. The music was awesome but watching them play was incredible, great times man.
I absolutelly love this band, since the first moment when a friend showed me their first album in 1998! I can´t belive that it passed 20 years!! I am glad to feel the band around again and playing this amazing song selection! Keep the amazing work KEXP! Imense gratitute!Greetings from Portugal! :)
Wow, just found this session from Gomez, I wasn't aware they were still playing. Great to go down memory lane hearing these songs. Time to search and catch up with what they've been doing in the past 15 years or so.. (hope to be pleasently surprised) :) Thanks @KEXP!
the best camera angle was from behind the host...why on earth do they have to have more than two cameras.. This band is and will always be in my music queue
Grandísima banda! Talentosos y humildes! No puedo ser más feliz por haberlos visto este año 2 veces celebrando los 20 años de Bring it on! Keep making wonderful music guys!
I first heard " the voice " when they sang for a commercial. I heard 5 seconds of his voice and went on a quest to find out who it belonged to. No luck. This was really prior to the internet when answers sometimes went wanting. Then, magically, I saw an interview with Lance Armstrong where they asked him what he liked to listen to at the moment. He mentioned Gomez, and when I looked them up- surprise! The voice. He also mentioned being fascinated with a newly released social media app called Twitter, or something. I wonder if that ever panned out.
Love Gomez! Remember getting Bring it On in 1998 and loving it. Not sure I would say they were in the vanguard of home recording. McCartney produced the vast majority of his first solo album at home on his four track recorder in 1969/70. If you haven’t heard it, check it out! It’s low-fi, raw, with plenty of soul.
This band is such an iconic part of my childhood absolutely love them. Ben Ottewell’s voice is one of the best in my opinion.
Absolutely 👊

love it. so gravelly and bluesey. I'm a brit but had no idea they were brits for years!
Hangover was the first song from Gomez I ever heard. I’ve been hooked since
@@Jon-ob2dc in our gun is mine
I can't describe my love for Gomez! Free to Run is one of the best songs from the past 25 years!
Love the album 'Bring It On' - still brilliant 20 years on. Well done guys....
I can't imagine that it's been 20 years. I bought that album new. I feel old.
Really is mate.. Superb band,
20 years on Gomez and still sounds as fresh as the day it came out. One of my favourite all time bands.
Can’t remember where I parked my car in tescos but remember every single lyric to this album 😂
I saw them in Tdot back in June . My wife was in labor the night of the show and she still told me go and see them. I made home in time to drive her to the hospital and have a baby girl. What a great day !
excellent!
One of the best bands to ever be. So so great.
Been probably their biggest fan right from the beginning, it fills me full of joy to still see them now, and to have grown old with them, they feel like old friends who have been with me through all of life's trials and tribulations despite me not really knowing them!! Cheryl waters. John peel. Top trumps winning cards
Yeah the KEXP crew is great

Great set. Props to Gomez for staying together as a band for 20 years!
For a music producer/engineer and musician this is gold! songwriting aside, every song has it's own sonic characteristics, so refreshing to listen!
Went to see Ben and Ian in a little village in North wales in small venue, absolutely fantastic night and faultless ❤ love to see them again live 🤞
The best live band I have ever seen. Saw them a few times at the Fillmore in SF. What a band.
Such an underrated band
Who exactly is "underrating" them??
Nah they are highly rated!! They sell out every tour. Massive following
@@mynameisfin I too love this band. Just about everyone I know says, "underrated." Why was the music press down on them?
@@thetotaldepravity Because the music press could not put them into a category.......in my mind I would rather be poor and misunderstood than rich and sold out.
@@itannoysme3348 I get what he's saying - their talent is off the charts, they should be much better known.
Tijuana lady. What a beautiful song!
Sung with so much soul.

Love bring it on, absolutely class album.
Loved it since 1998 when I first heard it.
I've been walking far too long,
Drag my feet like everyone......
their sound never get old.
love this sound, from japan.
They became the benchmark of a great live gig for me. Such a great night out, every time.

British Celtic Phish..phenomenal, the best of both worlds; English sound and phish..Thank you so much..eyes swelling
Classic album one of my top ten
This is just an amazing band. Their live performances makes you love songs all over again. This was awesome
So happy to hear you guys. Love you bad men. Thank you KEXP. It's my first time watching these lads live. I'm in Australia. Come over.
Just imagine! To be a part of the music-making collective genius! They have just gotten better over time.
I love the anecdotes.
So good. Still listen to Gomez most days after all this time!
Moody, Melodic, Melancholy, Call it what you like, Just bloody beautiful
I love this band, how are they not celebrated more?! They sound amazing! Back then and now!!
One of my fav bands ... Love this album ... Please come back to play San Fran Bathhouse in Wellington New Zealand

やっぱりgomezは唯一無二。最高のバンドだな。
Magnificent performance !
Musical perfection
Masterful performance of Free To Run, wonderful!
Was just listening to Bring it On while on a camping trip a week ago. Timeless classic! So happy to see these guys getting some time on KEXP.
One of my favorite songs inspired by one of my favorite artists. Whippin’ Piccadilly feels like something Beck could’ve wrote and performed himself.
Fuck*ng love this band
this is band was a reason i fell in love with blues back then

I remember walking past these guys on Oxford Road Manchester about 17 years ago. I was just a kind. First trimester I was ever star struck.
Once upon a time, not too long ago
Took a day out in Manchester...

A band who can play and sing, what a sound! Sound as great as ever :D And kudos to Kevin Suggs for the fantastic audio work!
I went to see 2 of the band a few weeks ago never see a better live act bring it on came out when i was 21 🙈😂😎👌💚
Gawd I miss these guys….
These songs DO mean a lot to people. Thanks Gomez. Always will be a fan. Tons of songs to shout out, but really like Rosalita for my 2 cents.
