  • Mostly sleep all day, but I woke up with numbness in my left foot. Doctor said since I don’t have fever symptoms we are going to try Medellin steroid pack to reduce any potential inflammation.

I had my l5/s1 surgery yesterday. My left leg feel numb, but when I asked the doctor he said was normal? Hows your numbness? How long did it last?

linch482 every body is different. I’ve been told that the longer you have had the disc herniation before you decide on surgery, the longer it takes for sensation to come back. For me it was instant-but for months my nerve pain/numbness would come and go. I’m almost 10 months out now and I’m facing much different challenges but the nerve pain was completely gone after about 7 months. Hang in there, it’s a long recovery. Of all the friends I’ve made online most of them are about as far out as I am and there is a new challenge at each stage. Stay positive and right now focus on no bending twisting or lifting. Rest up-your body needs the rest to heal. Good luck!

@@megant3530 I contacted the dr office and told them about my concern. I had L4/L5 back in 2003. This time is L5/S1. Is very depressing...I feel my symptom is worse compare to pre-surgery. The butt cheek is hurting and the whole left leg is numb from the butt to the saddle. Even my private area feel numb. I think I did too much reading and is scaring me. They ordered 2nd MRI today to check the surgical outcome. My surgery was 4 days ago...I have no strength at all on my left leg. Pre surgery I was walking fine, but now I am limping.....did your numbness went away?

linch482 yes my numbness went away, but it took months to happen. If your symptoms worsen you should call your surgeon. Better safe than sorry. Good luck!
