  • been feeling really good! I am taking steroids because I have some tingling and numbness in my foot that comes and goes. The thought is that there may be swelling from the surgery that’s pushing on the nerve, but that should go away over time. It is difficult to be feeling so much better than I was prior to my surgery, having to force myself to limit my movement. For the first time in months I am pain-free and I feel like I could run, dance, and jump for joy- except that I have to remain still in order for the disc to heal!

    How are the fluids in the discs ? Have they returned???

    • @megant3530
      @megant3530  6 лет назад +1

      DJ AG the internal disc matter will never return to the disc, it does not regenerate. Not all of it spills out, so they leave what’s left inside, and the disc has to heal where it tore open to prevent more from coming out. You can technically have this surgery a couple of times before they would remove the disc completely and give you a fusion. That’s why you can’t lift, bend, or twist for several weeks, to heal the disc inside.

    • @thisisagtv
      @thisisagtv 6 лет назад

      Megan Thompson any thoughts on inversions-tables after your completely healed or in general ??

    • @megant3530
      @megant3530  6 лет назад +1

      DJ AG from what I’ve read they only seem to help a small percentage of people, and are more for people suffering from back pain. (I could be wrong) I should ask my surgeon and PT to see what they think.
      Honestly, once you get the pressure off the nerve and heal from the surgery itself, you should be good to go. I should be snowboarding and running again by the end of the year. The most important thing moving forward is strengthening your core, so than in the future your back doesn’t do all the work for you. This injury happens because you have a weak core and you are bending/lifting/twisting incorrectly. Retraining my body to move safely is most important.
      For me, there has never been back pain, so I personally won’t use traction. It’s all been pinched nerve stuff.

      Osama Ansari I am 10 weeks post operation, and SOOO happy! I had no pain the moment I woke up from surgery (I am lucky, some people it takes a few weeks). My nerve tingling went away within 6 weeks and I am almost cleared to resume normal activity! I’ll even be able to get back on my snowboard this winter as long as I keep doing my PT core strengthening exercises from home. If you are not feeling relief after 3 months, I suggest finding an orthopedic doctor to refer you to a spine surgeon to discuss your options. Good luck! ❤️

      @@freestylebully4849 sorry to hear that. Yea it sucks and puts a toll on everything you do. Supposedly the shots for some lasts up to 6months+. But for me it was only with few weeks, that’s why I finally just couldn’t bear it and went with the microdisceptomy surgery. Where they remove a partial of the disc out of same level disc. It’s been a year now so far, way better than before the surgery . Which I don’t regret and enjoyed daily lifestyle again, BUT don’t take too much advantage of feeling great again and abuse your back afterwards. Actually do the simple back/core workouts they recommended to strengthen up. Because now I feel few aches and pains again but nothing like before the surgery, only cause I should’ve did my core strengthening and don’t over do it in general of course.

    Did you have numbness prior to surgery? and has it gone away?

    • @megant3530
      @megant3530  5 лет назад +2

      Joseph Rice yes absolutely. My left toes would go completely numb if I were to stand up straight or lay flat. That was in addition to a “string of fire” running through the back of my leg and the feeling of a knife in my achilles and buttock. It was debilitating and I could not perform all of my self-care tasks on my own. THE MOMENT I woke up from surgery I felt my toes it was the first thing I said LOL “I can feel my toes” I was ecstatic!

    • @megant3530

      @@megant3530 The Numbness is one of the most frustrating parts. Did you have the foot drag or foot drop when you walked prior to surgery?

    • @megant3530
      @megant3530  5 лет назад +1

      Joseph Rice I did not have that, I was just completely unable to walk without hunching all the way forward like and upside down letter “L” and I couldn’t go further than 20 feet without having to sit down. Sitting cross legged on the floor was more comfortable than anything.

    • @jrice6337
      @jrice6337 5 лет назад +1

      @@megant3530 I've have the string of fire as well. I have a foot drop or foot drag when I walk. I can walk upright but there's a short step in my left leg that almost looks like a limp but isn't. It's just like a shortened step, that's the best was to explain. I have to lie in the prone position on my stomach on the floor to alleviate the pain. I can't sit normally in a chair, and driving is painful. I stand most of if not the whole day at work. And any sort of physical activity is out of the question. Walking is my only form of exercise. I've had cortisone shots that helped for a week or two, but then it all returns. Putting shoes on is the hardest thing to do. Pain in the morning is unbearable. I'll find out Wednesday if I'm going to have surgery. I'd do anything for relief at this point.
