    That the rework and change the old tracks is such a delight: peach's new retro track is a fond memory, but would get samy by the third round - this is such a pleasant version. And I love Alpine pass for the long glider sequences!
    My main gripe with the dlc tracks is how short some of them are. The XMas one is beautiful, but lacks corners and features. Then again that makes it very approachable for multiplayer

    8:42 Gotta agree with that point. I'm a big fan of Berlin Byways mainly because I live in this city. And while, like London Loop, it doesn't exactly catch the vibe of the place, it's just exciting riding past places in Mario Kart that I pass on my way to college every day. Basically every building you can see in this track actually exists in the city.

    Even if some tracks look rather lazily ported (especially Mario Kart Tour tracks), I’m still pretty happy with what they’ve shown so far, and even more so for the latest course (Maple Treeway, whoo!)
    What would make this booster course even better, and it wouldn’t be that difficult for Nintendo to add in, would be more racers. With Link and the Inklings, it’s becoming a “Nintendo Kart” at this point and they should just add more iconic Nintendo characters in! At least Captain Falcon should be allowed to race in his own kart and tracks! XD

    • @jacobtidwell8869

      I'd rather have more Mario characters like Birdo, Diddy, Kamek, and Petey over other Nintendo characters tbh.
      I've been waiting for Birdo and Diddy to come back since 2008 (I don't want to play a mobile game to use them again), and I'd rather not have them get sidelined yet _again_ by characters who aren't even from the Mario series.

    • @awkwardsilence4427
      @awkwardsilence4427 2 года назад +4

      Agree with more racers, but I’d prefer them to primarily be Mario characters. I’d be fine with having past Mario Kart racers that aren’t in 8 to be brought in.
      I’d also love to have more kart parts added in, perhaps also from past Mario Kart games. Like I’d _love_ to have Dry Bones’ kart that’s basically a giant Dry Bones added back in, along with 7’s gliders.

    • @RacingSnails64

      The fact they've done not just new tracks, but patched in custom items and balance changes, is making me rather hopeful they'll be able to do some new characters down the line. If they're porting Tour tracks over, the Tour racers are just screaming to be added in as well. Classics like Birdo, Diddy, Funky, and also newbies like Monty Mole, Pauline, King Bob-omb, etc!

    • @RacingSnails64
      @RacingSnails64 2 года назад

      Merry Mountain is definitely the more "dynamic" course, but I personally prefer London for its tight windy turns and changing laps. Merry Mountain's definitely growing on me though. The fact it's 90% harsh incline turned me off at first but I'm starting to appreciate its turns :)

  • @toddelmsworth640
    @toddelmsworth640 2 года назад +1

    Maple Treeway for sure, it was a favorite of mine from the Wii (like everyone else lol). I didn’t think we’d ever see trick platforms in this game, but it was a really smart way of utilizing the gravity panels. It gives me hope that Rainbow Road Wii becomes a think for the final wave.
    Peach Gardens, I remember fondly racing on this on the DS, I was in awe when the course actually threw you in the opposite direction. I had wondered why there was an extra part of the course that wasn’t accessible for the start of it… then lap 3 hit and my face lit up with excitement. It’s this kind of nuance that I hope Nintendo puts into more retro courses in the future (either for the BCP or MK9)
    Merry Mountain has everything Christmas, I love all the Christmas stuff, they definitely planned to release that course in this wave, within this time frame. The road was really well textured, it was course, glossy and colorful. It was nice to look at.
    Rock Rock Mountain was another big standout for me, I love the gliding sections, especially after you ascend the mountain. I always glided over the pipes to skip the first section of the course for the following laps. I don’t remember much of this when I played MK7 (it’s been years), but I had fun with this.
    Boo Lake was really fun, the tight turns we’re actually pretty exhilarating. I use bikes when I race, I love courses that make me use tight turns, and the underwater section was really cool. Plus Luigi’s Mansion and the moon in the background were really cool. I thought this was the course from the DS retro cups, but that one was Banshee Boardwalk (N64).
    3DS Rainbow Road… What do I even say? The vibrant background, the planets, riding on Saturn’s rings, riding on a moon, the actual road was phenomenal. It took me my surprise, it looked like I was racing on a ocean of stars encapsulated into a rainbow strip, it’s SO different from it’s look in the 3DS. This one I know people loved, I really like this one too. While it’s not my favorite Rainbow Road, it’s certainly near the top of the list, and what the BCP did to it, it’s amazing to race through. Now I strongly believe that Rainbow Road Wii will come to the Spiny Cup when that releases… in a year most likely.
    London Pass and Berlin Byways are basically the same, roads that change every lap. Berlin Byways was the most confused I’ve been during a city Tour track. Both just didn’t feel that inspiring to me. I do admire Byways for being more different with the following laps, like lap 3 where we have to pass the Whomps. Other than that I’m not a fan of these Tour tracks, for me these were the lowest points of Wave 3.
    Overall this wave was really fun. They definitely ramped up the quality of these track compared to the ones that came before this. Save maybe some of the textures looking a bit flat in a few courses, like the city Tour maps and the trees in Rock Rock Mountain. But this course is another win in my book.

      @@WritingCountingOriginal the problem I have with them is that they're not unique at all anymore. There's too many of them and going different routes doesn't really work for every track. @@jamiee4630 they are unique. You’re just fixated on the fact they have an asphalt road. How about instead of dismissing Tour tracks go search on RUclips about the remaining Tour cities. They’re certainly different like Vancouver’s forest section and Singapore having you glide onto a skyscraper. You’re not even open or having faith or acknowledgement towards any of these differences between each city.

    I have LOVED every new track. They have been faithful to the originals and I appreciate the nostalgic feels they bring. The texture argument ignores the history of the older tracks. I’d rather they hint at their origin than look brand new and contemporary. Maybe this is all because I’m “classic” as well. I’m a 58 y.o. grandpa. Thanks , Nintendo, for the many years of family connection and fun!

    I think my favorite course out of this batch would have to be Peach Gardens. The only reason I can't give it to Maple Treeway is because of this little change in the blast section at the beginning of the course. So in the original version of the course, you get shot from the cannon and fly straight through the leaves of the tree, but now in 8's variant there's this little hole cut out in the treetop for the karts to go through. I know it's not a huge deal if you've played the track more than once, but I feel like it take's away from the overall experience.

    I guess the London Loop very much follows the places that tourists would go rather in Central London than all the other parts, since London is quite a big place. I usually find myself in East London, and it's obviously a very different vibe, and I learnt that very recently having to go somewhere in West London. London Loop probably makes more of a connection with folks from outside of the UK with how they perceive it to be rather than those in the UK. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    So I just played them tonight. I’ve had it as a bit of a tradition to play new Mario Kart games and tracks on 50cc (as that was what I would do as a kid). I think I might have to stop doing that, as they’re coming off as quite boring at that speed.
    One thing I noticed even more so seemingly on this wave than any other is just how tiny all the racers are compared to the track elements. The Toads and Yoshis seem absolutely _massive._ And weirdly in Berlin the traffic on the roads that serve as stage hazards feels about on par in size with the racers than they do the background elements. It’s especially noticeable when an on-road car looks like it’s about the same length as the random mopeds on the sides of the roads.

  • @CaptainJLinebeck

    OK well I'm glad that everyone seems to be enjoying this wave. Personally this is actually my least favourite wave so far, I just think I like more of the tracks in the first two wave overall for whatever reason (nostalgia, music, etc. etc.).
    That being said, still some really great stuff here! Rainbow Road is obviously awesome, Maple Treeway is really great, Alpine Pass is a bit simpler than I remember in 7 but it's a bit of fun anyway, and Berlin Byways is currently tied with Sydney Sprint as best city/original track in the game so far. All of the others are kind of meh for me but none of them are outright bad. Except Merry Mountain. That one was a huge letdown imo. The vibe is great but it definitely feels like a Tour track.
    Glad we're getting more anti-grav too. Even if I'm not on board with all the track selections the quality in general is definitely getting better which is very nice!
