- Scrambled his hitting the road again! This time Gordon stopped by the Circuit of the America's in Austin Texas to cook in the pit lane. And he's not making anything fancy, he's cooking a Texas Staple, Frito Pie. Gone are the fancy ingredients too.....Gordon is cooking with ingredients mostly found at truck stops and convenience stores on the road. So get ready for a Pit Stop Frito Pie like you've never seen before!

One thing I love about Gordon is he has no boundaries. He’s very approachable and down to earth. I would imagine that is what makes him such a great operations manager on top of being a chef. You’ll see him working with people in the most luxurious establishments on the planet, and you’ll see him working with people at some hole in the wall eatery that no one ever heard of. His love of cooking transcends boundaries.

I make my own chili and use regular Fritos. Toss some Fritos in a bowl or on a plate, spoon my chili on top, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, and scatter some chopped onion over that (maybe a dollop of sour cream).

First: Let me say up-front that I love Gordon Ramsay. He's my favorite celebrity chef, and he's clearly got a huge amount of genuine experience as a chef, as well as a deep knowledge of food techniques, cuisines, and dishes from around the world. I watch his RUclips videos and shows all the time. I'm a fan, not a troll. I'm also a proud Texan who visits Austin and the beautiful surrounding areas all the time, just for some extra context.
This is the worst dish I've ever seen Gordon Ramsay make, by a wide margin. If it was meant to be some kind of elevated take on Frito pie, it was a categorical failure. It looks like something a pothead would clumsily assemble at 3 in the morning. My friends and I were literally dry-heaving when he folded the chili into the eggs. To folks watching this who haven't been to Texas: Please know that literally no one in Texas makes Frito Pies this way; if they did, they would be banished immediately to New York City.
A Frito pie consists of a sturdy foundation of regular-flavor Fritos (the corn chips must be Fritos brand); a generous scoop of no-bean chili (canned Wolf brand is acceptable, homemade is better); and a confident sprinkle of shredded American-style cheese. You can eat it in the bag if you want to look like you just stepped out of a school cafeteria, but normal people prefer a small bowl. If you're feeling especially bold and avant-garde, toppings such as green onions, pickled jalapenos, avocado, or sour cream wouldn't raise too many eyebrows.
The slop that Gordon dumped into that Frito bag is not a Frito pie; it might, however, be the biological antecedent to the next version of the coronavirus if it's left out in that hot Texas sun for too long. My guess is that the recipe is trying to infuse elements of migas (a Mexican breakfast that is indeed found all around Austin) - interesting if so, but unfortunately not a success. The one upside to this disaster was that it gave my friends and I a good chuckle. It turns out that even the mighty Gordon Ramsay is human after all. Better luck next time, chef. For now, take your apron off and go home.

I’m from Northeast Texas and frito pies are staples at football games here, even there, they at least gave us little paper trays 😂 I’ve NEVER seen anyone eat frito pie out of a bag. NEVER seen anyone use anything but regular Fritos. And eggs? Half and half?????? Some times they use home made chili. The eggs look good though. Personally I use better cheese.

The problem with this food is the canned crap is horrible because the lining is chemical-laced, the oil they use for the Fritos is chemical laced totally horrible and I've had bad reactions to the Fritos causing my heart to race and blood pressure to go up. This is not food he's cooking with, he's cooking with chemicals and poison. as a true chef I guarantee he does not even touch this shit with a 10-ft pool. Also me being a chef, nobody could ever pay me enough to make this crap ever. These raceways and these sports stadiums make so much in revenue you would think they would be able to serve something that was fresh and good, but no they serve off the worst kinds of food for for humans while they raking the dough.
