I began to observe nature 2 years ago after I discovered the Ural owl near my home. Tawny owls are more common but even more difficult to observe because they are exclusively nocturnal. The best way to find owls is to learn their calls and locate them at night.

Beautiful work, Trond. Perseverance and hard work paid off. I love photographing owls. I entered gallery exhibit with three of my pictures last week. One of them was a barred owl, very similar to your tawny owl. One was a hummingbird and one was a butterfly. My group of three won first place.

I hadn't seen a Tawny for years . I hear them all the time. Then setting out for Deer photography a Screeching Juvenile Tawny Owl was on my Neighbours roof ! Too dark really but got a record shot, delayed my departure by ten minutes. Great to see I won't have far to go if it survives the Winter

I share your excitement. Love owls.
I am fortunate enough to live in a city which is close to a national park in Hungary, where you can find owls (mostly ural owls, not tawny, but they are pretty similar :D ).
In autumn they are always hanging around meadows and some of them are pretty tolerant towards humans.
Btw is the z9 + 600mm f4e managable if you handhold it?
