Great set of picks. Another popular staple game that would be a good pick for this series is Pandemic. I can think of a number of good games that are either action point and/or cooperative.
As soon as I saw the video title my brain immediately said “Ethnos”, it just really replaced Ticket to Ride for me. I’ll still happily play Ticket to Ride, it’s a classic for a reason, it’s great and very accessible. But Ethnos is like, a top 5 game for me, it’s just never gone wrong, it’s always so fun and plays well all the way from 2-6.
Ethnos, Royals, Copenhagen, Iquazu, Sunrise Lane, US Telegraph... All with the same 'Ticket to ride' Rami-esque thing of collecting and playing sets to advance the game in whatever the game does. Ethnos definitly the gameriest of them...
I immediately thought about Lisbon Tram 28 and Royals. Maybe also Elfenland (for obvious reasons being same designer)... Tribune: Primus Inter Pares also came to mind. I fully agree with Airlines Europe and Council of 4 that have already been mentioned. Thurn and Taxis as well.
For me Ticket to Ride is a game I can play with anybody. I deter almost nobody when I pick this game. I can play this with my parants, friends and in a few years with my kids. The theme also plays an important part in that. Im sure the cover of Ethnos wont attract my mother for example.
Sunrise Lane for me has been a good one, and for me the card play reminds me of TTR...then I heard the actual premise of the video and yeah I like these (or am now interested in trying some). I often keep these types of games with me for meets, so will need to look into a couple I don't have.
Great series! Pan Am and Caesar's Empire are great picks. I'd probably suggestion Trekking the World before History. Splendor would probably be in my pick 3, to satisfy the same "collecting a hand of goodies" feel as TTR.
Yea I thought of Airlines Europe, think in some ways shoulda been on the list to be comparison to T2R. Great idea for a list, hope to see a few more like these.
Good news is Bus is getting a reprint from Capstone later this year I just saw. A bit more esoteric of a follow-up recommendation, but an interesting game I'll need to try again. -Chris
Alhambra. You’ve got 4 coloured currencies you accumulate to buy tiles for your garden. The garden walls are connections and you collect sets of types of tiles to score
I thought of Mangrovia, which I had a blast with when I was first getting in to the hobby. Definitely worth checking out if you can find it and want to add some more crunch to TtR.
Digging the Pick 6 series! Like @codainlaw said, the talk show vibe is nice. I've always overlooked Archeos Society but I might have to give it a proper look now. Hopefully it plays well at 2!
Great American Race - similar weight, you spend cards to go to a route, the board is a map, and you can hate draft cards when you expect someone is going to a location to block them.
The game that immediately came to mind when thinking of "games like Ticket to Ride" is: Takenoko. This is because they both have essentially the same hidden goals mechanism. In the case of Ticket to Ride, the "tickets" establish hidden goals for certain routes, while in Takenoko, the cards establish hidden goals for certain combinations of bamboo. And I much prefer Takenoko's theme.
How about Splendor? The conditions for drafting remind me of TtR. Trading in what you've drafted scores points and remains in effect helping you for the duration of the game.
Trekking the world is my TtR. It has the card market mechanic, trading in sets of colors for points, there still is that potential of blocking and competition that is in TtR, just not so brutal, and on my turns I feel like there is a bit more choice and the journey cards give you ways to midigate not being able to get the color of the cards you want. For me Trekking the world is THE replacement for TtR.
9:42 - Not sure how Lords of Waterdeep is a “6 Games Like Ticket to Ride,” as the video is titled. If the video was called games to play after Ticket to Ride, it would work. Lords of Waterdeep is not a train game, it is not a cutthroat route building game, it does not use a rummy mechanic … I don’t see how it’s like Ticket to Ride at all! 😂
Hi Joey. Would you recommend Scoundrels of Skullport at the same time as introducing LoW? Fairly new gamers but my niece is a bright 11 year old. Thank you!
I think we said in the video it's definitely more analogous to Ticket to Ride, Trekking through History is a little more fresh and it's okay that it's a little more different. But that whole series is a good recommendation. -Chris
I would definitely include New York 1901 on this list. It's a fantastic game, far better than TtR in my opinion! If Thurn & Taxis was still available I'd add that too as it is also better than TtR. Sadly it's OOP at the moment.
Amazing game, a good recommendation but man I wish it had color-coded the cities into regions for easier reference. I literally took sharpies to the Dice Tower copy and colored the regions and cards.
One and done for me. Felt way too simple and was really boring. I'm sure there is room for clever play but perception is reality. Not surprised no one talks about it anymore.
This is giving me talk show host vibes. You’re doing a great job with these Joey!
This pick 6 was very cool. Thanks for posting
Glad you enjoyed! Have any other recommendations? Joey knocked it out of the park coming up with this series. -Chris
I'm loving this series. Thank you
Great set of picks. Another popular staple game that would be a good pick for this series is Pandemic. I can think of a number of good games that are either action point and/or cooperative.
Love this series! Joey is doing great.
Switch and Signal is fantastic. It’s my top 30; had a nice game of it with Chris on the cruise.
It was great playing with you and your wife on the cruise! I'm so glad you had Switch & Signal already set up because it had been on my mind. -Chris
Still loving this series! Hoping to pick up Trekking through History!
This is very useful list/series. Thank you to both!

agreed 100%
Ethnos, Royals, Copenhagen, Iquazu, Sunrise Lane, US Telegraph...
All with the same 'Ticket to ride' Rami-esque thing of collecting and playing sets to advance the game in whatever the game does.
Ethnos definitly the gameriest of them...
Ethnos is the better game.
I love this series and these hosts. Keep it up!
Great series, keep em coming!
Royals. Very like TtR in card play but now with area control/ majority
Nice recommendations! Elfenland is a throwback, though I believe it's not really in print at the moment.
Royals! Yes!
I came here to ensure PanAm was on the list. Such a great game.
And here I was hoping it would be TTR Europe, TTR Japan, TTR New York, etc.
@@bones983 lol 😂
Me too. If they didn’t say Pan-Am I was going too!
For me Ticket to Ride is a game I can play with anybody. I deter almost nobody when I pick this game. I can play this with my parants, friends and in a few years with my kids. The theme also plays an important part in that. Im sure the cover of Ethnos wont attract my mother for example.

"Buy me out" makes me think of Silicon Valley startup culture (especially in the latter 90s before the bust ).
Honorable mention at the end because it is indeed fantastic!
Bus or Iwari would be perfect if they were still in print.
With its impending reprint, Through the Desert is the best choice.
Good news is Bus is getting a reprint from Capstone later this year I just saw. A bit more esoteric of a follow-up recommendation, but an interesting game I'll need to try again. -Chris
1830 is a train game like Ticket to Ride that is fun, too!
Yep, definite next step...assuming you were one step away from a cliff. Love the humour!
Alhambra. You’ve got 4 coloured currencies you accumulate to buy tiles for your garden. The garden walls are connections and you collect sets of types of tiles to score
Alhambra is a terrible game though, comparing bad games to ticket to ride isn't good
I disagree, Josh. Alhambra is a fun, approachable classic that has a good helping of luck but I still find it fun. It's a good pick. -Chris
Love this series! What about a trick-taking/ card game? Euchre maybe? Dutch Blitz?
I thought of Mangrovia, which I had a blast with when I was first getting in to the hobby. Definitely worth checking out if you can find it and want to add some more crunch to TtR.
I immediately think of Hansa Teutonica as a more complicated and interactive version of Ticket To Ride.
Digging the Pick 6 series! Like @codainlaw said, the talk show vibe is nice. I've always overlooked Archeos Society but I might have to give it a proper look now. Hopefully it plays well at 2!
If you focus on the route building aspect of TTR I will mention Age of Steam which of cause brings along an economic aspect aswell.
Council of 4 gives me huge Ticket to Ride vibes with a little more going on.
Yeah, more involved but connections are a huge part of making that game work. Nice one. -Chris
Great American Race - similar weight, you spend cards to go to a route, the board is a map, and you can hate draft cards when you expect someone is going to a location to block them.
Excellent picks Chris! And Joey too, I suppose. 😉

In the case of Ticket to Ride, the "tickets" establish hidden goals for certain routes, while in Takenoko, the cards establish hidden goals for certain combinations of bamboo. What about the award-winning Thurn and Taxis? When we found that my wife and I stopped playing TtR.
Also a good game, but harder to find. We tried to make the picks games that are easier to find.
Ahhh i thought the same thing. But yeah, sadly not as popular. Probably the muted theme. Still a goodie 👍🏻
I came here to say Thurn & Taxis! But yes, hard to find. (I found my copy on Poshmark, of all places.) I hope it gets reprinted!
is it possible to build a station through a tunnel?
You might try Asara and Spike too. Both have elements of Ticket to Ride.
I totally made a suggestion for this exact game on your first one 6 games if…
Let’s see if it made it.
How about Splendor? The conditions for drafting remind me of TtR. Trading in what you've drafted scores points and remains in effect helping you for the duration of the game.
Absolutely a good follow-up, though I'm not personally as big a Splendor fan. Though Splendor Duel really is amazing. -Chris
@@thedicetowerYessssss. We love Splendor Duel.
1:37 anyone else notice that the pad confusingly fell with virtually no warning or outside influence?
They must have a poltergeist in the studio! :O

Hi Joey. Would you recommend Scoundrels of Skullport at the same time as introducing LoW? Fairly new gamers but my niece is a bright 11 year old. Thank you!
No love for sunrise lane?
That's a good one! I liked Sunrise Lane quite a bit, but I happen to enjoy these other ones more personally. Thanks for mentioning it.
That was the Beatles boys!
I assumed Chris was wearing a Third Eye Blind shirt until I fully read it…
Was thinking Royals would be on this list. I remember Tom enjoying it.
Good morning inspiration!
No Thurn & Taxis? That game completely replaced TTR in my collection.
Trekking the national parks should be on this list instead of trekking through history
I think we said in the video it's definitely more analogous to Ticket to Ride, Trekking through History is a little more fresh and it's okay that it's a little more different. But that whole series is a good recommendation. -Chris

If Thurn & Taxis was still available I'd add that too as it is also better than TtR. Sadly it's OOP at the moment.
New York 1901 was an honorable mention and it would be my fourth pick. It's such a delightful game! -Chris
I think for this series we need number cards. . and since it is a games like. use Roman Numerals instead of the standard cards!
6 games like Ark Nova would be fun
Railroad Ink.
Royals!!!!!!
Pan Am
Ok this one is a bit older but…. Thurn and Taxis
I you had looked, you'd have seen it's already been suggested three times above.
Where's Free Ride? 🚂
Amazing game, a good recommendation but man I wish it had color-coded the cities into regions for easier reference. I literally took sharpies to the Dice Tower copy and colored the regions and cards.
@@thedicetower The colored coded US map is coming!
Ooh, this is news to me! And great news at that!
I will die on this hill, Transamerica is a better game than TtR
Transamerica is really good, and I would have recommended it if not for Caesar's Empire -Chris
One and done for me. Felt way too simple and was really boring. I'm sure there is room for clever play but perception is reality. Not surprised no one talks about it anymore.
