I picked up a vorteks boost as my first real rc. I had a built rustler 2wd that was impossible to handle and learn on. I transferred my castle 3S system over to the vorteks, bought the 4wd upgrade and upgraded the transmission. Saved myself a few bucks that way. It's a monster. Lots of fun. Great all around RC.
I just picked up the Senton, I ordered the 4x4 kit and a brushless system from surpass hobby, I’m excited.

I know they're smaller, but I believe RC vehicles like the MJX Hyper Go Brushless (monster truck 16208 variant for most bullet proof version) and HBX 16889a Pro are the best beginner RC bashers available. Not only are they incredibly good value coming in at around £100, but they're insanely durable due to being smaller and lighter weight but still having solid build/parts, plus still quick and powerful, especially the MJX with 3S support available in the box (almost too quick), and can still easily handle grass, off roading etc. Because of their 1/16 size, they're also much more portable and can literally be thrown into a kids backpack without much strain, thus carried about using public transport too.

My MJX kept losing the steering linkage whenever a rock would jam the servo arm. Put in LocTite and so far so good, but now it veers worse than before. It never could drive straight, no matter the trim settings.
No grill over the fans, so I've overheated the ESC because a rock got in the fan... The rear wheel pin on the left kept coming out due to the plastic around it becoming damaged. Had to use super glue and wrap it with tape.
The rear diff on my H16PL failed in less than a month, the spur failed on my 14301 in 5 weeks.
The biggest problem is MJX using aluminum spurs and gears. I opened up the 14301 to replace spur, and every single tooth on the spur was worn down to nothing. Spares coming today finally.
MJX is okay for being lowest tier of hobby grade, and a good learner vehicle.
Now that I can handle 3S I bought a Granite BLX and I'm over the moon with the size and handling. The H14BM is actually faster than the Granite BLX on 3S, but it's way smaller and lighter too.

I like the solid color body for the vorteks over the childish patterns for the 3s
I bought 2 of these granite for my kids. They are great, fast enough and very tough.
I broke 1 servo on one, and the other the motor burned up.
I installed a heatsink with 2 fans on each motors and did not burn them again yet. Being 2wd they are quite fun to drive, they turn very sharply.
I got my son The vortex for Christmas. We put the boost kitten to make it 4 by 4 and swapped the battery for a 2s lipo and it performs pretty damn well for a brushed motor. The motor burned up in about a week after putting the lippo battery in. We are going this weekend to buy the brushless motor and a 3s lipo. Can't wait to see the performance improvements
I'd be thrilled to get any one of these even though I've been in the hobby for 9 years, they look good and look fun even though they're brushed and kinda slow
Hey Kev, looking forward to see what you do with these... The Vorteks makes the most sense, especially when the Senton and Granite 3S are reduced to £300 at the mo.
I have a Vorteks Boost with a 4S brushless setup. Used the Infraction Mega 55T 32DP spur to strengthen the driveline, added a wheelie bar off a BRCC, motor support and filled the rear diff with 100k fluid. Other thing was a DumboRC with gyro, to help keep it straight. Trying to keep it budget, lasted 10 packs on the plastic mount so far despite Internet wisdom. You need 3S due to the weight, they're a bit heavy for 2S, even 2WD. Hope that helps.
Results are hilarious on 3S, it will wheelie with 2WD and pull huge drifts helped by the gyro. One of my most amusing RCs. 4S is unhinged.

Me and my son got a granite each for Christmas done the 4x4 conversion on his, improves the traction immensely. can't wait to see about the 3s conversions as I'm itching to do it myself 😬

I just got the Arrma Senton 4X4 3S BLX 1/10 RTR Brushless Short Course RC Truck and I am pretty excited after watching your review and others on YT.
Also I wanted to know if you ever sell your Rc's to make room for other ones for your collection. I imagine you'd be able to sell quite a few to help fund other things if needed!
looking forward to seeing these. I like the idea of the upgrade kit just because its chance for a child to take something apart gain some understanding and improve it. Even if it costs more it is worth the price for the experience.

The senton was my first RC car
I just bought a used granite with a 2s lipo for $150. Got it for my girlfriend so she can learn and play with me. I also upgraded with the 4x4 kit

I understand it is cheaper than a 3s, and more suitable for a child, but the senton and vorteks 3s, I have senton, and getting the vorteks soon, (who asked, ik) and I absolutely love the range of cars, I wasn't expecting it to break much, because of kevs vids, but it did. Not too major, but it happens. So arrma all the way for me, but I like 3s, not the mega, or the boost range. In my opinion
vortex body on the granite may look pretty good too

I’ve had my granite boost since release date the only thing that’s broke is the servo went out
I checked before ordering the 4x2 boost vorteks, and I saw KITS that were idiot proof. upgrade to 4x4 kit, a kit for brushless 4s with motor, esc, and gears, and kit for lights. Got the car here , been driving a month got taxes back and now I can only find the 4x4 kit. Where the heck are these things?

I have the 3S Vorteks and a Brushless Zorrow. Vorteks is standard and my Zorrow has a few upgrades. I love them both.

I have the Brushless Zorro and an MT10. I really think the Brushless Zorro is overlooked by a lot of people. MT10 is better at skateparks and no doubt more durable but for any other surface, the Zorro is a blast.
@Stewart Hill I'm a big fan of the Zorrow. Out of everything I currently run, the DR8 is my favourite though.

@Stewart Hill They are. Great out the box but I'd recommend upgrading the servo and the rear suspension mount to the aluminium part. I tend to run a dumbo setup in most of my cars also.

Just ordered the Granite for my 6 y/o son the bother day! I’d bought him a cheap 1:16 Hyper Go, because i heard that it was tough, but it broke in a day. Returned it and ordered the Arrma instead…F it. Buy once, cry once.

Been out of the rc world for prob 15 years or more..... Now that i have kids i would like to introduce them tonthe awesome world of RC. Im looking for something full size, fairy budget, tough but also able to get replacement parts to fix and/or hop up. 4 wheel drive would be nice so it can drive on anything, fairly fast...... Any suggestions??

The senton is 239 american dollars just bought one and the charger takes like 3 hrs to charge it is so anoyung had to chsrge the battery all night
