The way Liszt looks like here, the piano he is playing on, and the room and the people in it all resemble the paintings of him really well. This was a really entertaining scene.
Repent and trust in Jesus. we deserve Hell for our sins. For example lying, lusing, saying God's name as a cuss word and stealing our just some examples of sin which we can all admit to doing at least one of those. I've learned quite a bit about these people which never would have occurred to me from this superb film. Marie D'algou had a salon in which numeerous artists and writers participated: Balzac, George Sand, Heine, Chopin, Liszt and alll the other artists depicted in this film. Even Karl Marx was there! Of all people! Moreover, Marie D'Agou not only had a salon but wrote a history of the 1848 revolution! What a remarkable place Paris, France was then!
Wow i like that, in this film they made Liszt pretty similar, they made him as damn attractive as he was I mean, this black kind of long dress that he wore in combination with his blond long hair is just daaaaaaaaaamn
Can you imagine if they did a sequel movie on Liszt with Julian Sands that encompassed his two romances gone wrong, the death of one of his daughters, his spiritual awakening in his middle age, his retirement from the stage to give lessons and how all this shaped his artistic genius?
Loved this movie. Having suffered through many contrived and hokey composer bio-pics, this one was clearly made for grown ups. Great cast...good sense of humor and art... Maybe it fails for some historically, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.
I dont know about you guys but why is liszt playing his s.139 version of Mazeppa rather than the more probable s.137, seen as the s.139 version was published 1852, 3 years after chopin died?
Not really. If you take a look at Liszt’s entire repertoire you’ll see a wide range of styles-romantic, impressionistic, atonal, choral Latin hymns, art songs, masses and even a couple of oratorios. Chopin is great too but if he had lived as long as Liszt maybe he would have explored other dimensions for his music as well.
I think he wrote it based off a story where a man is riding a horse and he loses control of the horse and they both fall down a cliff and they get seriously hurt.
Daniel Madsø Transcendental Etude No.4 : Mazeppa And by the way, this recording is played by György Cziffra, if you want to listen the whole performance, you can search for it on RUclips ☺
He is just an actor, not a real pianist ! 😂 By the way, the recording they used here for this film was played by György Cziffra, one of the greatest performer of Liszt !
Would definitely rather sit on the artistic side of the room, looks much more interesting than the aristocratic side. I doubt I'd ever get invited though, I don't know if I'm artistic enough to be worth their time.

The way he hits the chord at 0:44 is astounding, his facial expression, not even looking at the piano, that is truly what Liszt would do.

He is the most accurate actor of Liszt for me ! Of course not include the piano-playing part...😂
That chord was satisfying.

R.i.p julian very underrated actor.
I like how they used the Cziffra version while Liszt is playing on the piano then switch to a cuter, lightened orchestral version afterwards.

This is a great movie..and what a cast!
THANKS, I MIGHT GET IT UNLESS ITS FREE TO WATCH.
Yes it is a great movie.
The dinner scene of this movie is hilarious and well done
This is my all-time favorite movie. . . I LOVE the dinner scene.
I liked when Marie was trying to play footsie with Chopin and he starts coughing
I realized that they used George Cziffra’s audio of him playing Mazeppa

Yeah I thought that too.
I thought the exact same thing!!!!!
That's always the problem appears in the classical composer theme movies...😅

Is this actually a good movie?
Yes. But this is a fictional retelling of Chopin and George Sand's relationship so its not historically accurate.
