  • The Ford Figo S 1.5 TDCI was Ford’s attempt to bring driving excitement to India’s hatchback segment, and it became a true underdog in the hot hatch segment yet it remained one of the most underrated cars on the market. With its efficient diesel engine, sporty suspension, and sharp handling, it had all the right ingredients for an enthusiast’s daily; but for some reason, it never got the love it deserved. So why did we sleep on it despite the acclaim? And with Ford’s exit from the Indian market, is it still worth buying a second-hand Ford Figo S? In today’s video, we break down everything you need to know before making that decision!

There’s another Figo that only a few people know about. The Ford Figo 1.5 Dragon AT. It had the 1.5L NA from Ecosports that generates 121 hp and 150 nm of torque and it came with a TC gearbox. I own one and man it is such a pocket rocket and fun to drive car.

I have a 2016 1.2 4 cylinder petrol, a sluggish car no doubt with fuel consumption like other cars in its class. But the 4 cylinder engine is smooth and refined and after 8 years and 69000 kms still no squeaks or rattles from anywhere. Overall a good solid family car in my opinion. Not selling it as there's no suitable replacement for the price in my opinion. Can live with the mileage as I have limited use for it, will keep using it till the wheels fall off. No way I'm ever buying a Korean or Japanese car. Ford is Ford.

  • @Vishnukaniyan

Correction, not only theres Figo S but also there's Ford Aspire S with the same styling graphics and the same mechanical upgrades, which i own one, is gem of a car from the factory itself, nothing under 30 laks wont come close to the performance these cars have from the stock form itself, the engine is derived from 1.6 TDCi mill, by a joint venture by Peugeot-Citroen-Ford and each company named it differently and used it across the world, Ford named this particular 1.5 engine DV5 and its a proper old school engine that's still putting coffin nails on the so called performance delight car mentioned on the videos.
Along with the punchy Diesel engine the other upgrades where the beefy sway bar and the UK spec suspensions qhich was 10mm shorter than the normal 2nd gen figo/aspire, made the car planted and can do an impressive driving performance on the corners, braking and straight line stability, giving the car controlled nose dive while braking, stiff and planted feel.
195/55-R15 is the tyre spec which i think is the sweet spot. Unless the car is tuned there's no need to upgrade to the tyres to 205/55-R15 or upgrading to a higher alloy specs.
And guys for those trying to upgrade the already good braking power to a new level i suggest going for a Ferodo FDB4685QS which is a super and almost cheaper than the stock brake pads with impressive results in braking department.
And be sure for those guys already owning one or the ones looking to buy one used, go through the cowl panel area and check for rust, a critical area where no one ever suspect rust but it should be properly checkd and cleaned periodically.

@@livelymachineGo for a 4300Kelvin 12V 55w LED bulb that will improve the night drive 200% visibility even in high foggy or heavy rain conditions which I'm now using, osram or any other brand will do, just don't upgrade lights to a white LED bulb set-upits just simply a nuisance to the on coming traffic.
Another thing is to use performance oriented tyres for best performance tyres, avoid using uni directional tyres(Yoko S drive & Goodyear), as the road noise will make you exhausted, right now I'm using vredestien tyres which are superior compared to the alnac 4g Apollo tyres.

I own a 1.5 tdci for almost 8 years now, issues with the car:
    1. BS4 diesel cars need better fuel. Injectors start clogging along with fuel filters and EGR chokes. Maintainence and cleaning is required, along with fuel additives
    2. Rusting!! - in no other ford car, since i have an ecosport too in the family will you find such rusting. My car has been in a covered parking all its life. I have changed 3 out of 4 doors due to rusting. 4th door is on its way out. Repaired engine bay strut bar rusting too.
    3. Turbo hose pipe- not sure if other figos have this issue. I have changed the the turbo inlet manifold pipe/ charge pipe thrice and its gone again now. It developes cracks with the boost pressure. This happened even before stage 1 tune so its not the tune.
    4. Power steering- most of these variant figos you will find in the market (2018 and behind) will have some repair on the steering rack. These go quite early. So check the rack and response.
But its a lovely car to drive. I dont plan to sell it at all. The gearbox feels sluggish but its strong. Never changed the cluth plate since 8 yrs(75k kms) and still working fine apart from being hard. The engine when its not moody keeps pulling.

Have always been interested in how the 1.2 duratec in S flavour felt. Ford is known for actually spicing things up here and there and I was wondering if they had done anything to spruce up the lacklustre duratec to make it feel better in any way. Intake? Gear ratios? Anything. Unfortunately this car is so underrated no one has ever bothered reporting on its petrol avatar.

I very much liked the then new ecosport SE (without the spare wheel on the backdoor) and was planning to buy it but as u know what Ford did after few months.
I still remember those panic days the day Ford announced that they are leaving. Ford Showroom was offering 3-4 Lakhs onroad price for ecosport which was at that time before the announcement around 8-9 lakhs.

Dude .. Ford Figo has a N.A. engine version as well the 1.5L Dragon Ti VCT. Thats 1.5 litre NA engine having 123HP as stock. If you'd recommend a figo, Recommend the good ones atleast

The 1.5l TDCi is the best version of the Figo. The dragon engine is ok, but no match to the TDCi.

@ I hope you know Fordlord from the ford owners group south india. I have driven his past dragon car and all his cars from the day he bought his first car. So please research and ask him what would be the most fun hot hatch.

take it as just my opinion on this car. I always felt like this generation of figo is soo overrated. i have driven the old one and this generation figo too and I felt a massive step down from the driving characteristics of the old figo as they tried to cheap out the new figo even its platform. this generation of fgo is just a cheap car ford made for the developing countries and called it figo. only thing I love is the engine in this car. THE ENGINE ITSELF WONT MAKE A CAR A HOT HATCH. Cmon man. stop lying about the handling and all, I mean look at those alto sized wheels.

Maybe Abarth is a 16 inch, but I have driven one of these and he is right. Alto wheels are 12 inch, it's not a "cheap" car though. I can exceptionally agree that the interior looks like alto quality but not the car.

I currently own both the fiesta S and the Figo S, I've driven both cars extensively. Trust me, you're wrong. The Fiesta S is a better handler than the Figo S only by a notch, but it's much much better than it's competition. The eps on the Figo comes really close to the hydraulic steering of the Fiesta S. To live with it and daily drive it? Figo S is miles better than the 1st gen Figo/fiesta. The "alto sized wheels?" Are actually forged alloys.
