That's a very intriguing car. We're just about ready to get my wife a new car and I'd like one that's fun to drive on the odd case I'm behind the wheel.
@JP-hr3xq drove my sisters one. All the fun with all the Japanese reliability and puts one he'll of a smile on your face These guys have done a video but the latest ones are even better
As a JCW 306cp ALL4 owner, I can say this is one of the greatest car to drive and sit in. Tested before i30N, Civic TypeR, Focus RS and Golf R, and I always come back to JCW.
My wife has a 2020 Cooper S; it's clocked about 130k in the years since. Practically zero issues except for... One big mechanical issue that wasn't mentioned is the engine mounts; it's a really common issue according to our mechanic. Symptoms include a rattly-sounding engine and engine vibrations. Like anything BMW; big dollars to fix. Besides that, practically zero issues. The other thing as evidenced in the comments; it's a very polarising car - people love or hate it. I was firmly in the "hate it" camp, but since my wife wanted one, I drove it. Agreed with the video - it's a hoot to drive. For those who say, "iT's NoT a ReAl MiNi"; - would you really daily drive a classic Mini in today's traffic? Go drive one, they weigh 1100kgs and have more than enough power with a usable chassis to make your mundane daily drive a fun experience. That being said though, the cooling system issues are a real, and concerning, food for thought.........
I owned a 1973 Leyland Mini and I would much rather have one of them even though get parts for an Australian model can be difficult to near impossible, but at least I believe I would have less problems. Classic Mini owners called them Binis, meaning they should be put in the bin.
The question has to be asked how much money do you have to spend on a Mini to fix the problems? Taking into account that in around 10 yrs it's value will likely be less than a 2015 Hyundai i20.
BMW (in fact, all German brands) are designed to get you through the lease period with minimised cost, at which time you lease another, and pass a ticking time-bomb onto the 2nd-hand buyer.
That's not really true, atleast not overall. It maybe could perhaps be somewhat true compared to Toyota/suzuki etc (depending on how pessimistic your views are) but statistically on various longterm reliability surveys (on cars up to 10 years old) the German brands are better than Italian and american made cars overall for example. Mercedes is the best of the bunch and overall a pretty reliable brand, especially in the 2000s when they were almost as reliable as Lexus.
Have 2016 F55, clutch is so notoriusly sqeeky, windshields is so easy to crack because of angle, you have to use expensive washer fluid because there is filter that clogs up easily, interior squeeks, wheel buttons sometimes do not work, console buttons sometimes do not work.... but so fun to drive
These German Minis make great lease vehicles for small businesses, real estate agents, sales reps etc. which is how most of the new ones are sold in the UK. After 2-3 years, they are flipped on to unsuspecting buyers in auctions, who pay half price of new, or less, but actually end up paying (considering repairs) more than new price overall if they make the mistake of holding for more than another 2 years. Minis are engineered to last around 8 years; then they are considered a disposable item, like your fridge or microwave. I'll stick to my Mazda thankyou.
I had this exact spec and colour but with the manual box, quite a good little machine, fun and frugal on fuel but the horrid NVH levels got to me in the end, woefully noisy on any road.
I had a hr31 skyline coupe 1988 import. Frameless doors. I sold that think 2009. No paint fade nor any rubbet leaks although i aleays parked it outside. I had to change some suspension parts. No other issues ever. It was built in 1988! I shouldnt have sold that car.
I received one as an upgrade to a rental. Went round corners really well and was economical but the gearbox and clutch were absolutely atrocious. The worst I have ever had the misfortune to drive. This, coupled with the cretinous seating and pedal position alongwith the entire ergonomics, made the car an utter ball ache to drive. The Krauts absolutely ruined it. I could have happily driven it over a landmine.
the B38/B48 are stellar engines, but these are just to expensive to own, Mini's are what people think VWs Golf/Polo maintenance is like. High insurance, high part cost, high maintenance, high labour costs.
You have posted the current version of the Mini Electric Model, J01. Anyway, I don't get the 5 door variant, if you want rear doors and large space, get a Clubman instead, way more cooler too.
I have to laugh at the fact that Minis now have the same wheel base length as a Land/Range Rover, yet bugger all room in them. The 5 door version you put up look like it had had a bad BBL done to it lol 😂. I will admit that the fuel economy is way better that I expected for a performance car under the BMW banner. Bloody good work as always guys and look forward to Sunday's video as per usual 👍.
Dude, the rear seats do fold flat. The rear boot floor has a simple hinge slot so you just raise it up a notch to have a fully flat floor with the seats folded. Report card: Tends to talk in class; Must try harder.
Do not ever buy one of these pieces for junk the labour to maintain one of these and then put parts on top is not worth the purchase. TBH I have watch a fair few of these video from this channel and they continue to confuse me and contradict themselves. I am not sure what they are trying to acheive. Maybe they will comment on this to tell us.
When comparing resale values of the mini to civic type R in 2017 it would be helpful if you also factored in the absolute minimum $10,000 USA. MSRP Mark-up of the Civic. Compare that to the below MSRP selling price of a John Cooper Mini of that year!🤔🤫🙄🤯 Just saying.😇
Yes, I don't know why Reviewers spend so much time on the rear seat and luggage space, do they really think that people are not going to check that those spaces are suitable for their needs when they buy a car?
These are incredibly fun to drive but the guys at Re:Driven are absolutely right to advise caution. The engine bay plastics in particular are a nightmare and on mine an engine mount needed replacing too!
I tried to set the mood with some romantic music. The playlist went from Marvin Gaye to Disney songs, and suddenly, we were debating whether Aladdin and Jasmine were relationship goals💖
Suzuki swift sport anyone ?
That's a very intriguing car. We're just about ready to get my wife a new car and I'd like one that's fun to drive on the odd case I'm behind the wheel.
The SSS is what you buy when you think Coopers are cool, but you want something that's actually dependable.
@JP-hr3xq drove my sisters one. All the fun with all the Japanese reliability and puts one he'll of a smile on your face
These guys have done a video but the latest ones are even better
I have 2 autos
Yep they are miles better.
Give me a Suzuki Swift Sport any day.....
Yup. All the fun, none of the hassle.
It's ironic how modern Minis aren't even 'mini' at all.
Because people are getting bigger and bigger..
how good is not being turned into a fine red mist by a patrol doing 150 on the highway
And not super
Welcome to modern safety requirements on vehicles
@@hobo1704It's more to do with modern crash and pedestrian safety requirements
I became a Mechanic, Auto Electrician, spray painter and Engineer after buying a R53
Be better off with a Suzuki swift.....less heartache and pain, they are also reliable
As a JCW 306cp ALL4 owner, I can say this is one of the greatest car to drive and sit in. Tested before i30N, Civic TypeR, Focus RS and Golf R, and I always come back to JCW.
Owned one of these for 7 years and had zero issues. Awesome car.
The entire car is a wear & tear item.
What an utter burial. I was laughing at some of the analysis. Great review
Minis are made with BMW plastic. Look great, handle well but utter crap mechanically.
Are you saying a mini looks great? 😅
This one I don’t even have to watch.
That a definitely no from me.
Bad Beemer, Bad Beemer!
It's looking more like a Suzuki Swift every year.
German engineering at its finest. The list of things that goes wrong is going to be long. probably easier to list the things that won't go wrong
Went to inspect a Cooper S 2-hours ago....and the boot wouldn't open...
I feel like this channel is conspiring to make me buy a Fiesta ST.
Nice vid for my birthday, thanks Redriven!
Happy birthday 🎉
@daweigo6851 thank you!

Lost a tyre at 40kph on a pothole not a pleasant experiance

Another car brand i will never understand why people buy...expensive, ugly, unreliable, terrible build quality....am i missing something?

Mercedes is down the bottom of most reliabilty rankings......look it up@BlueFlowerPowr

My wife had a convertible and I had a Paceman.
Very fun to drive, but thanks to the dang expensive run flats the ride quality was bad.

Throwaway car..........
All hopelessly wrong. But enjoy your Mazda

Never drop redriven please honestly my favourite RUclips channel
Adam & Jim, absolutely awesome.

Germans: yes we couldn’t beat the United Kingdom during war, but we did manage to take all of their cars and mess them up
7:15 - I want to buy the Mini cooper S VERADA GTV model pls!
Bit of copy pasta from the Magna video? :)
OMG Mini Cooper S, this will be interesting.
No just no

I think the answer is to Kswap it !!!
You have posted the current version of the Mini Electric Model, J01. Anyway, I don't get the 5 door variant, if you want rear doors and large space, get a Clubman instead, way more cooler too.
If it has electricity running to it, makesure it works... LOVE IT!! 😀
I have to laugh at the fact that Minis now have the same wheel base length as a Land/Range Rover, yet bugger all room in them.

I wonder why redriven hasn’t done the legendary E46 M3 and E60 M5s!
Oh, i hoped for a 1966 Real one.
We need you guys to review a Peugeot 207 gti!!!
Don't recommend unless you know how to do a lot yourself
Do all those engine issues apply to both B38/B48 engines across all BMW? 🤦♂️
Dude, the rear seats do fold flat. The rear boot floor has a simple hinge slot so you just raise it up a notch to have a fully flat floor with the seats folded. Report card: Tends to talk in class; Must try harder.
Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever..EVER EVER EVER buy a *use mini!
Please review my Clubman?
They look great and I'm attracted to shit cars.
It’s a shame the design has gone downhill. I’d just get a BMW instead because it looks like what it is
Your videos are a treasure trove of knowledge and wisdom. Thank you for your willingness to share your knowledge and experience!🚴🎓🌚
Definitely not!
Shazza! I mean, Shazzy!

Big choice here lads, Mk7 GTI or one of these?
Very sad ,it goes to say, you can't reinvent the wheel 😢😢

Basically, it’s more fun than a baby brother but the car is crap.
Are the thumbs down reviewers Mini owners??
It's a Mini. Stop complaining about lack of interior space
Much, much smaller on the inside than the outside.
Yes, I don't know why Reviewers spend so much time on the rear seat and luggage space, do they really think that people are not going to check that those spaces are suitable for their needs when they buy a car?
No,it's not !

Clarkson for PM!
Yeah no thanks. I'll take John Cadogan's advice and stay away. POS but hey, they LOOK great.
I tried to set the mood with some romantic music. The playlist went from Marvin Gaye to Disney songs, and suddenly, we were debating whether Aladdin and Jasmine were relationship goals💖
