In this episode, I continue the construction of the small cabin that I started building in the previous episode. I'm building the floor, roofing, doors, windows and installing the stove on which I will cook. I am building this small house so that I can stay on my property where I'm building the main log cabin from big round logs. More about me:
When I was 20 years old, I dropped out of college and said to myself that I will do what I really want and what I see meaning in. So I decided to build my dream log cabin, all by myself, in the middle of an off-grid bush.
After I left school, I went to work for a while to earn money for trees and hand tools. I spent all the money I earned and my savings on it. Thank God, I already owned the land I have - I got it from my dear parents as a gift and I also bought another part of the land with my own money.
I chose a log cabin for my home because I like it. I build it with the vision of living a simple and peaceful life in it. Having time is more important to me than having money. Of course, nowadays a person cannot live without money, but I would like to live in such a way that my expenses are not so high and thus reduce the need for money. I want to have time not only for myself, but also for my future wife and children. That's why I will try to build the most self-sufficient life possible, in which my own housing, in my case a log cabin, will be the heart of this system.
I use hand tools because they are my favorite. There is beauty in simplicity.
Working with hand tools has several advantages: You are able to work off-grid, the entire set of tools you need can fit in one bag, there is better safety when you work alone, you don´t make too much noise when you´re working... so I enjoy it more and I believe you will too, while watching :)
Sometimes you will still see me use power tools for some things where I can't avoid it completely, such as drilling through metal roofing or welding, but otherwise I will always try to use primarily hand tools.
My dear father is a carpenter. I remember that most of the things he taught me while working with wood were precisely while working with hand tools, which required the most attention and practice from me.
My father taught me how to work with wood from a young age, but I have no experience with building a log cabin, so I'm learning everything as I go, and I'm looking forward to what this experience will teach me.
It may not seem like it, but it was a big struggle to get this opportunity to be able to work on my dream, but I finally did it and for that I am incredibly grateful. What an extraordinary young man you are, your detail to craftsmanship is amazing to watch. The building of the window in your winter cabin was just outstanding, the making of the shutters another triumph! Likewise the engineering of the fire flue and all the pipework. All small details that set your skills above most others. It’s just a shed that you’re going to use over winter but you still bothered to show your skills you bothered to put details into its build.
Your videos give a sense of quiet fulfilment, the viewer knows that the job is going to be completed to a high standard, that we are witnessing an excellent eye for construction and woodcraft. It really is a pleasure to watch a master of his craft!

I grew up building houses with my dad and brothers. Rarely did we wear gloves as they would let things slip and hard to handle nails. Cold weather sometimes made it necessary. 😊

Beautiful work, and beautiful scenery! The terrain looks quite similar to to Pennsylvania (USA) where I live. Trees, rocks, and rolling hills/mountains.
I had a little girl playhouse a bit bigger than that when I was a kid! Finally just used it for chickens. 🐓🐔🐣
My little nieces had a playhouse just like this. Now, it's a garden shed. Very good design.

Great stuff Matthias. I've been away (working) for a couple of weeks and so didn't watch your video from 2 weeks ago until I got back home. I would rather watch on my desktop monitor than on a little phone screen. So I have just watched it, plus this latest one. Very nice indeed. Things are moving along well. You'll soon be in full flow. Only a month till Spring. Already the tree buds are swelling and the songbirds are flitting about, preparing to nest-build. I will keep following.

I just joined the channel, it's nice to see young cabin makers rising after several months of being somewhat stagnant and boring by several experienced cabin channels, where are they?
When I see this, I am humble old men. No matter what age 13 to the main age, we must learn our Craftsman skill more than ever seeing this. I think we are dying of this.
This loss of a crash meant we all must achieve to greatness as a Craftsman to learn this great wisdom.

Nice work man! I read your description and you essentially lay out exactly what I want to do! My problem is, I live here in Oregon and decent land is out the wazoo in pricing. I really don't want to move out of Oregon but I know places like the southern United States are cheaper.
Right now I'm focusing on filmmaking as a career until I can afford enough money to buy the land I want and build a cabin, movie theater house and workshop/set space to continue my passion of film-making. It'll happen on the Lord's time, so I'm not concerned but I do hope it's sooner rather than later. Subscribed :)

Try holding the hammer nearer the end of the handle and using your wrist more to lift and strike it is more accurate gives more power to each blow and is less tiring on the arms
