After one year of work, I finished the walls of the log cabin and built the columns that support the logs that extend from the walls from the front of the log cabin.

When I was 20 years old, I dropped out of college and said to myself that I will do what I really want and what I see meaning in. So I decided to build my dream log cabin, all by myself, in the middle of an off-grid bush.
After I left school, I went to work for a while to earn money for trees and hand tools. I spent all the money I earned and my savings on it. Thank God, I already owned the land I have - I got it from my dear parents as a gift and I also bought another part of the land with my own money.
I chose a log cabin for my home because I like it. I build it with the vision of living a simple and peaceful life in it. Having time is more important to me than having money. Of course, nowadays a person cannot live without money, but I would like to live in such a way that my expenses are not so high and thus reduce the need for money. I want to have time not only for myself, but also for my future wife and children. That's why I will try to build the most self-sufficient life possible, in which my own housing, in my case a log cabin, will be the heart of this system.
I use hand tools because they are my favorite. There is beauty in simplicity.
Working with hand tools has several advantages: You are able to work off-grid, the entire set of tools you need can fit in one bag, there is better safety when you work alone, you don´t make too much noise when you´re working... so I enjoy it more and I believe you will too, while watching :)
Sometimes you will still see me use power tools for some things where I can't avoid it completely, such as drilling through metal roofing or welding, but otherwise I will always try to use primarily hand tools.
My dear father is a carpenter. I remember that most of the things he taught me while working with wood were precisely while working with hand tools, which required the most attention and practice from me.
My father taught me how to work with wood from a young age, but I have no experience with building a log cabin, so I'm learning everything as I go, and I'm looking forward to what this experience will teach me.
It may not seem like it, but it was a big struggle to get this opportunity to be able to work on my dream, but I finally did it and for that I am incredibly grateful. I also started this RUclips channel where I share my entire journey, so if you are interested, you can check it out. There is no one behind the camera, so I do all the filming and editing myself. hello Matt, you are doing so well. Your family must be so proud. I'm an 83 yr. woman and am fascinated with your hand tools as I have often wished girls were taught skills like this as well. Those measuring tools are awesome. And the best part? You don't have to rely on power, cables and plug ins!! Do you have plans on the rooms you will put in, water supply like a well and a kitchen.......another thing, WOW where do you put all those calories young man!! Keep up the good work!! Stay healthy!

I always assumed this was somewhere in the U.S., like the Tennessee - Virginia area, but I just heard a cuckoo bird! All our cuckoos are in clocks. 😏
The Yellow Billed cuckoo migrates up here from Argentina. I live in Oregon and have heard them twice in 30 yrs. Thought I was hearing things as I grew up t=in the UK and heard them all the time. the old rhyme was, The cuckoo comes in April, sings his song in May, In June they lay their eggs, and July they fly away. They lay their eggs in other birds nests after tossing those eggs out.
There is also a Black Billed Cuckoo that comes to America.

There is one that I’ve followed for a while and he made a fatal mistake in one video a few months ago. Apparently he is in the wild alone but, in this video you can see an industrial area in the background! With yourself you can clearly see 360 degrees over your videos. Wilderness all around, obviously you have an escape if needed but you’re doing it in the middle of nowhere.
Full credit where’s it’s deserved, inspiring friend. If only more were getting back to traditions that were once handed down
The project comes along great! The roof-covered open area in front of a home is -at least in American English-referred to as a porch, not a terrace. But it's clear what you meant and your English is much much better than my Croatian!

I am fascinated by the method of rolling the logs and doing kind of a lever thing to lift them up end by end, by yourself. It makes total sense when I watch it. But it NEVER would have occurred to me do that!

So Matt, after a long year of building this fabulous dwelling, what are you ideas of building another one, maybe with power tools this time. Also, now many logs do you think it took to build theses walls?
Thank you for the compliment. When I finish this cabin and start living in it, then I am thinking about building another one and much much bigger if God wills. I would need a crane and power tools for that one.
I have currently used 58 logs for this cabin.

Amazing work whether you admit it or not you are becoming a master craftsman in cabin building. Never sell this home if you can help it. It should stay in your family hopefully for generations. I also learned today that there are cuckoos in Croatia. Continued success on your project!!
