    Hello my friends.
I am building this small house so that I can stay on my property where I'm building the main log cabin from big round logs. In this episode I finish the cabin interior which is only 4m² (43ft²). I managed to put a bed, a kitchen, an armchair, a stove, and a small bookcase in this space. I placed the armchair under the bed and there is room for one more armchair. It's surprising how much can fit into such a small space.
I power this off-grid cabin with a homemade 12v battery bank that I once made from a lithium-ion cell that I took out from a broken electric bike. Thanks to this battery pack, I can light up the cabin, power a small water pump that pushes water into the faucet, and I can charge the batteries from the camera I'm shooting with.
My main goal for this cabin is that I want it to be super cheap and super quick to build. I don't want to spend a lot of money and time on this cabin. I have a big main log cabin for that :D That's why I used fresh boards for the walls, which are much cheaper than dry boards. I also saved on parts such as the sink from a rotten rv camper, or the homemade 12v that I already mentioned, the faucet is also second-hand, it doesn't seal well and water drips into the sink, but only when there is pressure in. As I don't have constant pressure in it, it's not a problem for me. I got the roof tiles and two large tanks for free, and I already own the cast iron stove. So I was able to build this cabin very very cheaply. Total spend is roughly 350 Euros (378 USD).
Thank you all for the positive comments. I appreciate it very much.

I just finished watching your video? And I'm a bit jealous that I don't have my own property in where I can build my own MAIN LOG cabin and a small cabin to boot! So to that I 👏 you and good luck on your future endeavors and the finishing of the MAIN LOG cabin. 👍

The concept of using roof rainwater troughs to make water collection tanks to store water is great. In mountainous areas, water collection tanks for water storage are very important. The small ventilation blinds installed above the sink are very interesting. Some of the detailed equipment you installed are very practical and interesting and deserve praise.
The design and construction of your indoor furnishings are very good, and you can also be called an interior decoration engineer.

I watched your videos before, but I read your backstory for the first time today. What a wonderful story. I love your hand tools. My father was a carpenter in the 1940s building things by hand and had many of the tools you use today. He died at age 91 in 2015 and left his old wooden chest of tools in the garage. I am inheriting those as my 2 brothers do care about these things. When I was young, I worked with my dad while he build furniture and stuff. When I bought our first house I built a closet and some other things, using his tools. I am close to retirement now and I hope to soon build something in the family land up in the mountains. I will not be able to do it by myself.
I enjoy your channel as I like to see a young person using the old carpenter hand tools of the early 20th century.
You are very skillful and it is a pleasure to watch you build. Keep it up.

MrManicola, Your story is very similar to mine. :) My grandfather also built houses in the 40s. one to live in and two to sell. All with hand tools! I look at the photos and am amazed and proud of what he accomplished. Especially that at the same time, he was fire chief, post master and the main postal carrier in his small town, doing the building in his spare time, though I dont know where he got any spare time. My father inherited his crafting skills and remodeled every home we lived in. I am carrying on the tradition by starting to build a tiny home for myself. I'm cheating a little with power drills though. :) I hope my project comes out as well as I see it in my head and that I do my grandfather proud. I hope you get your off grid project accomplished also.

As I watched you build your little cabin I kept thinking that what if someone could put these together for homeless veterans? It was so well planned, so well constructed and would serve so much better than living in a tent or on the street. I can envision little villages of these cabins, filled with people grateful for a roof over their heads, and a cozy warm place to lay their heads. It would be a Godsend to them. Perhaps churches could even have their congregations do the labor for it. I wish so much that this can go viral and people smarter than me can make it happen. Well done, young man.

Good thinking. The problem OFTEN lies in "zoning" and the fact that you are not allowed to own land and build what you'd LIKE to live in....😢 "Code" is one thing (definitely want something built trying and something that is not going to kill you.... But even then, it is only the code that is written and not the unique, functional and livable that could make such a difference in so many lives
It is also unfortunate that the idea pops up for "homeless"! Why not anyone who CHOSES to live in a smaller, more sustainable way? By the tags they're using, "homeless" "vets" and so on, they're stigmatizing a viable way for ANYONE to live....

Well done Matthias, well done. It's so encouraging to watch a young man like yourself learning how to build useful, functional things by hand; you seem to have your head squarely on your shoulders and know what you want and are doing. It's a sad day when one can go to college/university and not learn anything constructive and useful, except how to get drunk and stoned all the time. I know, I've got a couple of useless college degrees myself. Anyways, keep up the good work and thought I'd let you know that your are a really good role model for those of your generation.

As a mom, I wish you would take that water tank to your parents' house where there is a water hose and send about a cup, maybe two of bleach or vinegar (2 cups definitely) mixed with water through the tank and hoses if you've not already done it. Then rinse it very well. The sink need a good dose of bleach water too.

Great job, this is so cozy and understood to be somewhere quick built while the log cabin is going up. So while I get it doesn't need to be perfect electrics and water don't mix. My ex and my father both master electricians had one saying, electrics is not a hobby, and they were right. So many home accidents resulting in deaths due to people not being safe with electricity. Even if it isn't high power at least run the line away from the water and the switch onto the wall. I think all us Mommas and Pappas out here watching admire such care and beautiful work, but wr want you to be safe. Oh and safety glasses, I almost lost my eye from a piece of wood that went in it while cutting wood. Learned my lesson now stop everything and put them on even for the "let me just do this real quick jobs." Lovely asthetics, opinion from an interior designer.

I grew up in a logging camp on the NE coast of Vancouver Island, BC (Canada). My Grandad owned and operated the boom boat (the Edna B - named after my Aunt) - and he was also a fine cabinet maker and wood worker. I was handling his tools (brace & bit, planes, files, vice-grip, etc.) before I was 5 yrs old. As noted - it was a logging camp - Bloedel at Menzies Bay - when the only access was by water.
EVERYthing was made from wood - our homes, the boardwalks, the fences, the stairs down to the salt-chuck - the swings, teeter-totter - absolutely everything. And we had a variety of cast-iron stoves for cooking and heating. We had a monster of a sawdust burner in the kitchen for cooking and for baking - and a stand-alone Benjamin Franklin fire-place in the living-room for warming the rest of the house. The men would clean all the stove-pipes every Spring - and the stoves would be cleaned out, hinges oile, mica windows replaced, etc. But BEFORE they reassembled the stoves - the one thing EVERYone did - was to lay fire-blankets between the stoves and the walls.
There'd be a layer on the floor UNDER each stove - with four bricks under the legs to raise the body of each stove farther away from the floor. The fire blankets would extend to the wall(s) behind the stove - UP the walls to the ceiling - and there'd be several layers lining the inside of the exit hole for the stove-pipe - and a third layer wrapped around the pipe where it went through the exit hole. In an entire community built of WOOD - no stone was left unturned when it came to fire safety.
But you amazing, modern-day bush-craft and wood-craft guys seem not to have heard of fire safety. You put the stoves right up to the walls - with no silica fibre or fibreglass material - or other type of fire blanket between your RED HOT cast-iron stoves and your WOOD floors and walls - and you don't line the exit holes, or wrap anything around the pipe, either - where it goes through the exit hole. AND you pile up wood within INCHES of that RED-HOT cast iron stove . . . AND - you've added a BOOKshelf filled with PAPER books - next to the stove !!! Honest to Pete !!! I really do hope to God that you continue to lead charmed lives - and that the danger you create with the lack of fire-safety - doesn't ever cause you or loved ones any harm.

The cabin has come up very cosy!
I’m a little concerned about the electrics right near the water on the sink surround!
An idea to cut the drafts down coming in through the door, use a heavy curtain. You’d be surprised just how much drought comes in when the wind is in the wrong direction! A great little home to allow you to continue on with the full log cabin, great video. ❤

You obviously know what you're doing and have seen it done or read about it, the cuts and the way you are putting it together shows that you do have knowledge of this craft.

The white IBC tote will break down quickly in the sunlight. One could screw timber boards to protect it and pretty it up, or a coat of exterior UV resistant paint. Personally, I used colourbond corrugated roofing iron, tek screw to the frame.
Also, the plastic valve was not designed to open more than a few times and will break unexpectedly....there's a special-threaded adaptor that will convert it to regular NPT 2" thread, then attach a regular ball valve.

The perfect little Woodman's cabin. You remind me of a a young Henry David Thoreau. I hope you are journaling about your experiences and thoughts while you build your dreams in the woods. It would make a great book! 💚

    Вентиляция!!! Молодец!
Канализацию можно было сделать лучше не в канистру, выкопал бы яму, затолкал лежа в эту яму 3 покрышки от автомобиля.
