      I’ve been thinking about making my Honda 650 into a race machine just need to take it apart and add some tuning goodies like the pulse generator rotor needs to be welded to add material and then ground down to have sharp edges for the pickup. That increases timing with a new cdi so I can have higher ignition timing and use alcohol or maybe race fuel. Up to 40 degrees of timing supposedly. Did you ever have to go with a separate ignition system to reach that power level.

    • @paulscountry456
      @paulscountry456 2 года назад

      @Alfred Wedmore you are wrong ,pneumatic has been used for years in moto Gp and F1,that old desmo actuation cannot compete as the valves will float ,do some research and educate yourself.

  • @Danger_mouse

    So they took the regular V twin, left the stock V crank and block alone and gave the now spare connecting rod a link to hold onto so they could save making new parts from scratch.
    Would have saved a lot of development time and money.
    No so sure about the odd 5 valve design.
    The later Yamaha 250 & 450 engines have much more sensible '3 inlet on one side' design.
    I imagine the split 2 & 1 inlet design of the Ducatti suffered from either poor scavenging or inlet charge being drawn out of the closing exhaust valves.
    11,000rpm would have been amazing back then, but pretty much all single cylinder MX bike are way beyond that now using simple balance shafts.

    The 5 valve triple cam is really only a twin because the third intake valve is timed the same as the other two. Just to lazy to set up a decent valve gear. However it is a bit unusual for having an intake between its exhaust valves.
