- In this episode I take you for a ride in a 1962 Porsche 356 B 60. This is the 60 horse power model, the base model for 1962.
This is a car I really enjoy driving. I hope you enjoy it too!
I so so love your t shirt Ross !!! I so so love all the old rock & roll music...the Beatles, the rolling stones. ...many many more great bands..
Thanks as always Cindy!
What state are you in? Looks beautiful. Also, I hope you have a spare tire. Flats happen. Does the clock work?
Just purchased a slightly shabby 356A imported from the USA. Really looking forward to thrashing it around English country roads this Summer.
I bought a 1960 356B Normal (60 hp) back in 1972 for...are you ready for it...$500 and it was the same colour as this one, only with red upholstery. As I'd been weaned on VWs I took quite naturally to the 356, as it drove like a faster, flatter-cornering beetle. Top speed (indicated) was 103 mph, driving in the red band, but it was so nimble you could drive it almost flat out anywhere. Going back to college I had to sell it to raise some funds and I still regret it to this day. I got to drive a Super 90 once and that was really, really nice and I always hoped to acquire one some day but now that the prices have gone through the stratosphere I know I'll never own one again. But I still think back to the great times I had with that car and list it as one of my favorites of all time.
That’s awesome!!
@@TireKickers-RossCameron After watching your video I trolled through some classic car sites to see what current prices are. WTF!!! Last time I looked they were about $60-80; now I can't find anything under $100,000 or more, way more. Back in the late 60s a lady in my home town of Guelph, Ontario had a 61 Super 90 Cabriolet. I heard it was up for sale so went to enquire. Her husband figured they'd ask around $1,100 for it. Of course, it might as well have been $11,000 for a cash strapped teenager at the time. But oh, if you could only go back in time. How much is a good used TARDIS gong for these days?
European cars had amber lenses. Any side mirror was option but the one on this car was from a later 64-65 356 C
Nice Ross😁👌🏼
Thanks Justin!
Sono bellissime queste Porsche degli anni sessanta.
Per me è bellissima la Porsche. Mi fa impazzire.
Nice
cold start 20:00 gurgling beautifully... miss the sound and smell of carb, but i don't miss having to fix them...
I hear ya!
Red/orange tails were european 356s only. North American cars were all-red due to US regs. It's a little weird, because the orange is also your brake light. Some cars in Europe had a slightly different arrangement where the inner lights were the tail/brake lights and the outers were blinker only (Italy I think). If you see a car in the US with red/orange it's either an import or a euro delivery car.
thank you!!
Redline on a 356 Normal is 4500-5000. If you are able to rev to 5500 I bet your engine has been rebuilt to Super specs, Carburetors also. Same carbs but larger venturis and different jetting in the Super. Visually I think that you also have wider 5.5x15 rims rather than stock 4.5x15 rims. 5.5 gives a better tire selection today.
Love the channel bro! Glad we’re not having to just do stocks all day😁👍🏼
Yes!!
But it's not original. Late-model rear view mirror. Replacement factory motors have a "kd" prefix before the engine #, transmissions also. Also of note engine lids and hoods, doors are also numbers matching as are the wheel rims. Me = Porsche factory mechanic (Germany) and stateside Porsche dealership mech.40 years + exp. Owned 51 - 356's in my day. 51 coupe, 56 speedster's couple 4 cams,63 "Damen" coupe + others.
Great review 👍
Can’t wait when I will finish my 356 and enjoy it.
Awesome sound too
Mid-year Corvette at 10:36?
If so, both are a sweet tandem
to have!!!!!
With a gopro and the gopro app you can have different type of like widgets on the screen from Speedometer to how many G's you are feeling. It would be cool to see the different in G's from acceleration in the different cars.
I gotta figure out how to do that
Early sixties Mustang? What? Mid sixties.
Love at first site
Hello do you have a video on your preA or A models?
Plane - Pilot may have been being taught Ross. When learning, that's what the instructor's do often times. Thanks For The Vid, Awesome Video Today!!
Good call!
Have to type it again, I Luv these video's, and how you give us a walk around 1st, prior to the drive. God Bless ya Ross this Christmas Holiday, as well as your entire family. Sincerely Appreciate all you do for all of us, especially through Warrior Trading.
Thank you!
For only having 60 hp car sounds pretty good.
Yeah!
GREAT VIDEO!! I noticed a road sign that said '71 West' - are you near Hillsdale, NY? Would love to take a drive with you in my '68 912 - there are some great roads in that part of the country (if it's where I think it is). Loved the car and you explained it well! Safe travels. Greetings from Connecticut. P.S. Don't change the hubcaps - just my $.02. Your car sounded like it has good power for 60 hp.
Love it, missing summer rides in nice cars right now. When's the video of the 993 turbo coming?!
I filmed one but the audio had a problem so gotta film again and now its snowy 😥
I love my t6...
😍😍
Just returned from the North Meets South 356 meet held at Cambria Ca yesterday. I drove my Oslo blue 1962 B Karmann coupe survivor from San Diego the 350 miles up there and back plus a couple hundred more miles driving the legendary California highway 1 coastal route. Stumble across this video this morning. Great job!
Spare tire??
Cool Video! Thanks! I'm happy to drive a Super90!
Humble no
Yes, any of us that have driven these know the importance of driving with our toes. There’s once on the highway years ago I wasn’t paying attention, went to push in the clutch to shift into fourth gear, hit the brake pedal as well and locked them up. Never made that mistake again!
Such a beautiful little sports car, shame i could never afford one 😢
👍
60 is din horsepower, europe , as is the 70 hp rating for a super, s90 is also a din rating.
I want the same but black :)
Oh yes! I saw one for sale for 100k, black exterior red interior it’s and S
Beautiful car and beautiful color 😍
Yes!!
Have you considered a manual gt4 or gt3 just to have a modern car but with that engaging manual transmission that makes you remember the good old times Ross? Or you're not really into them?
I do like them but I want to make sure I get one that will appreciate well
I have always been a vw old school fan beetles and campers , the 356 speedster would be on my list of must have cars, ty DR Ferdinand 🤘🏻
The vw Karmann Ghia would also be by the side of the speedster.
Yes sir! I love them
I know you like vintage cars then try to get a vintage supercar like a Ferrari or Lamborghini would be great 👍
They’re so expensive! But I’m looking for one
Beautiful car man.
greet video. You have definitely retained your family's teaching genes.
Thanks Jack!
Great video Ross and thanks for the ride! Loved it!
Thank you!
very cool vintage piece
Yes!!
is the engine in that car based on a modified beetle engine
Yes
@@TireKickers-RossCameron no its a 3 part case, early motors were 2 piece cases which were [mod] vw cases
fave margiela sneaker
Thank you!
Warrior Trading? ; )
Yes!
No snow today in MA?
Not too much
I was wondering if yours was a Super 90. Even as a 60, that's nice car Ross... I advise you to NEVER sell it.... I regret selling my '63 Super 90 more than anything in the entire world. And that was 30 years ago. With you're horsepower, you should have one of each.. I'm waiting for the video on you're Cup car... All thing's Porsche brother...
I have a red a super 90 I’m fixing up, I’m selling the 60 once the red one is ready to drive!
The most overrated over priced car out there. People paying well over 100k for basically a VW. You can get a 1962 MGA convertible with 93 HP that is better looking and handles just as good for 1/5 the price.,
Thanks John!
Yes they are over priced and the mga is a nice car but the porsche is such a unique looking car and way more cool factor 😎
This is true! The MGA was an affordable mass produced model in the UK and people loved them! Still do.
Great vid may I ask what the colour is please ? As my T5B that I'm restoring was Heron grey code 739, your's looks very simular. Cant wait to see your speedster 🙂. All the best Lewis
Hey Lewis! I believe it’s “ivory”
Also a decent dirt road is Pixley Hill. IDK if you have ever been over that road.
that's a good one but it's a bit narrow!
good call!
I have one in my garage that my great grandparents kept stock and rally raced it
Awesome!!
@@TireKickers-RossCameron yeah, unfortunately it was in a fire inside a mechanic's building, but the paintwork was completely fine. The engine is out and some of the interior is now gone. The worst part is all those expensive chrome bits are gone, but some day I'm gonna ask my dad if I can restore it to its stock form
