240 hp in a car that weights 1800 lbs, that is a beast

I love this. I had a 1961 356B coupe. It’s claim to fame was it was driven by Formula One race car driver Jackie Stewart, out on a date with the previous owner. This brings back such fond memories. Now at 75, and not able to afford a classic Porsche like this, I bought a 2000 Boxster S, 6 speed. Not quite the same nostalgic feel, but a lot of Porsche for a lot less money. It has a flat 6 with 258hp stock.

I've worked on a few 356's with my back ground in ACVW's. What a pleasure to work on and drive.
This particular one is probably the nicest resto mod I've ever seen. Motor sport quality but with all the charm.
    Intoxicating.

I love the photo of the car on Hoosier Pass. I have traveled over that pass many, many times. It sure would be fun to do so in a 356.

Probably the nicest 356 I've ever 'taken a test drive in'. The paint, the attention to detail and choice of engines makes for a fun, driveable machine. I knew a girl who had one 'back in tha day' that was the same color andI've always been partial to that shade of yellow.

I’m glad you mentioned VW beetle. I watched Magnus Walker’s visit to a gentleman in Florida, who owns a 356. The footage was mostly driving and from inside the car with all the engine noise. It reminded me so much of my old beetle.

Desire for me now has changed considerably as I’ve gotten older , I love and desire these old Porsche 356s for their visceral simplicity and timeless beautiful lines . The closest I’ve gotten is driving my old worked 70 beetle 140 hp . I love these cars …

THANK YOU! This brings up so many happy Porsche memories going back to my father. Its great you understand a concours 356 was never meant to be a "trailer Queen". The smiling 356 can magically escape any trailer overnight. Air cooled all have name's. I am driving the boat you see in the pic but I prefer an organic driving experience. Cheers from southern Co.

I owed a similar 1961 356 B in Condor Yellow back in the day. Paid $5600 for it in 1974. That was a lot of money for a 13 year old sports car. The solid construction and build quality really stood out vs the many other sports cars I owned in that era. Most competing European sports cars still relied on antiquated gearboxes that lacked syncromesh in first gear, wholly inadequate braking systems, and heavier body on frame designs. The Porsche “”Alfin” ( aluminum finned) drum brakes were miles ahead of the all wheel Dunlop disc brakes fitted to my 1963 Jaguar XKE. The 356 was 1000 pounds lighter too, helping to make up for the much smaller displacement engine. Of course the XKE was 45 miles faster in top speed, but the 356 was much more enjoyable as a daily driver, requiring less and delivering more joy. It was good to own both at the same time, while most of my friends were smitten with big American muscle cars. The contrast between the 356 and the muscle cars couldn’t of been wider. Back then the Porsche was widely unrecognized and not respected: many thought it was a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, a related automobile. I would conclude by saying that driving the 356 strongly reminded me of flying a small private aircraft: the shape, engine sounds, responsiveness of the controls, and complete confidence in the machine made for a most engaging and rewarding drive.

I know this ex-AMAG Swiss "Tanker" 356B from a previous owner.
Would love to speak with the owner about this build it is the ULTIMATE 356B GT "Hot Rod" example.
The T5 Porsche body is the sexiest look ever and the 904 wheels take it over the top.
Also in one of the two coolest colors for a "BGT" Condor Yellow and the other Heron Grey (Brumos driver ) William Bencker drove a Heron Grey 61' Push Rod GT back in the day.........One day I'll build the *sister* to this car, then maybe I'll see you at the Grande. :)

@@ClassicMotorFilms I DO believe Bruce Anderson recommended I contact Jerry Woods in reference to a 'hirth' roller crank for a project long ago. I also recall a chat with Jim Wellington. Probably back in the late 1980's or so. Grady Clay ended up having what I needed. With the Carerra 2's bringing eyewatering numbers these days, this is a well turned out alternative. Thanks for the upload.
