Riden them both and I can easily say the Triumph was a much better experience. It just felt more direct and mechanical where the Indian felt almost numb in a sense but both were a blast to ride either way.
Pity cause i prefer the Indian.. anyway for now i will enjoy my freewind Suzuki xf))
Have a 19 Scrambler 1200xc and absolutely love it. Super unique bike that can do a bit of dirt and the suspension soaks up crap roads really well. I did swap a zard exhaust on it (still the high mount one), which completely fixed the heat issue on the exhaust and the bike sounds amazing. I'd love a FTR so I don't think you can really go wrong with either, just pick which you like more.
Just curious, how are you liking it a year later? More, less? Any response would be appreciated. Until then, keep the rubber side down.

Love the Scrambler and about to get my second one. The tech is great but I would still prefer dials as part of the retro look. At 6ft 5 this is a perfect bike for me and no real issues with the exhaust heat.

They really strike me as two different beasts. I dig the Triumph personally. Even if I was just using it to go get coffee. The sound of that motor is my cup of tea.

I had a FTR Rally- seat height definitely wasn't 815mm- mine was 855mm. Unless they changed the geometry although I'm not aware they did on the Rally. Was a great, fun, raw, raucous bike- especially with a link pipe and Remus can.
I love my 2022 scrambler 1200xe. The exhaust isn’t hot at all and it’s actually nice to have in colder climates (like Canada). The tech is actually kind of annoying and I wish they would’ve kept analogue gauges like on the regular bonneville. 90hp is more than enough. It’s an awesome bike especially if you’re an ADV rider that doesn’t want a derpy bike
The tech offers so much useful information. There are options to automatically hide what you don’t want to see while you’re riding for riders like you that prefer a simpler look.

I traded my triumph xe in for a Ftr carbon last month. I was on the list 2019 for the Ftr and got tired of waiting so I bought the ex and really liked it but hated the seat height so I had test rode the Ftr in 2023 and rode better then I remembered. Just waiting for a chance to put on some miles and hoping I made the right choice. Both bikes look awesome the Ftr seems to get more looks. I’m just enjoying my midlife crisis LOL
I chose the FTR Rally I just love the feel of it.
I like both bikes. I have several Indians and a couple Triumphs…. But if I wanted a Scrambler I would go with Triumph. Way easier to get crash protection and parts for it. I like my Indians, but I wouldn’t take them off-road.
Great Vid Rob and one I was very interested in. When I was at Motorcycle Live the only bike I said I'd be tempted to swap my McQueen with (in a similar price bracket) was the FTR Carbon as it was a really beautiful machine. But I'm sticking with the scram for now.👍🏼👍🏼

I bought a triumph street twin and fox shocks and in 2021 bought a 2019 ftr1200 s. I love them both for different reasons. But, the little triumph is my forever street bike. The ftr is now with my youngest son.
I love my 1200XE. I have only 8k miles on the clock but it runs and looks great.

Both Bike are really beautiful but I love my Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC. The Exhaust heat isn't a problem with a decat in the older versions. The new version are improvet cause of the heat issue. Triumph all the way the sound is just the best out there :-)

Tried the Triumph. Could not past the high exhaust and having a white hot cat converter near my thigh. I’d have to fit an aftermarket system and move it.
I rode one in the heat of summer through downtown traffic and on highways to get a true test. The heat was there for sure but not terrible and the bike is a blast to ride. I just couldn't have it as my oly bike which is the budget I have needs to be a do it all.
I chose the Triumph Scrambler 1200 McQueen Edition. Proud owner of #967 :)
Two lovely bikes there! The FTR is definitely one to have if you want exclusivity as well as all that power. However, for me the Triumph wins, mainly because I've loved the look of those 1200 Scramblers since they were released. I'd definitely go for the XC in green though! Good vid - thanks!
I've an FTR Rally and really like it. If I was being picky the things I dislike are, a little jerky from cold, poor range and the rear cylinder fries your nuts in traffic. Apart from that I love it. The "hooligan" label really does depend on where you're coming from, its lively but no super naked

I personally prefer the FTR in the S trim. I think the ftr works way better as a street focused bike with the 17’s and sticky rubber
Agreed. The FTR is a street bike, making those "fake offroad" scrambler is a little cringy to me.
Exactly why’d I take the Trumpy. It can go off road;) also the Scrambler just echoes classic Triumphs perfectly
Yup. The decision to put 17" wheels and decent rubber makes it an ideal street bike and that's where it really shines.
Scrambler all day long, but I'm terribly bias, I own an XC ;)
Motobob, I tried clicking on a link in this video to the XC XE comparison -- It seems youtube is placing links at the bottom of the screen -- this works well on mobile devices but doesn't on desktops and laptops. When one moves the mouse to click the link, the browser pops the video controls on top of the link. Are you able to control where the links are placed?

Both of these bikes are just plain beautiful, and look like what a motorcycle should be. I wouldn't take either for serious off road riding and prefer the simplicity of the Indian.

i really like them both. after several reviews of the triumph, i have heard the exhaust pipe placement puts a lot of extra heat on your inner thigh. i live in SE US, so many months are hot down here. do not need a bunch more heat from the bike so this is a big issue for me.
Decat the header pipe and it would be a LOT cooler. (also sound nice and perform better)
Not the 2022. Mine is actually nice because Canada is cold for so many months of the year. It’s still 1-10c where I live and I love having my leg heated

Central Florida here. I want this bike bad. Will not buy it because of the leg heat. I’m riding a wing now so there’s no heat anywhere so I’m spoiled lol

bmw had a great scrambler. It was a the G 650 XCountry. Didn't sell for many years because it was ahead of it's time. Had they launched it 5 years ago, It would have had a lot of success.

a bit like the original F800 series as well. Now middleweight twins are the hottest thing going but at the time everyone wondered what they didn't just do a 600 like everyone else.
Agreed, I have one and it’s a great bike.
I’m bias, but the XE performs better off-road and I have no complaints about grinding pegs in the twisties or sliding out the rear end off road. More suspension, and geared lower down low.
The lines of the FTR are gorgeous, lower fuel tank helps with easy balance and more sporty on road, but the XE crushes.
I personally prefer the posters as that’s all I can afford 😂

I fell in love with the FTR before it was in mass production and Indian only used it as an actual flat tracker. Then one day I had the opportunity to ride one, I was FULLY prepared to trade in my Z900RS (my baby) for the bike that I've always loved.. But.. I hated it hahaha. Maybe its me but I did not like the way the bike felt. Flaunting all the power and "suspension" and I still wasn't impressed by any means. It just felt so funky and not in a good way. The power was really bizarre and I just felt so detached from the bike. Never rode the XE but everyone I've ever met that has rode one is in love with it where as (normal riders like me and not massive corporately funded youtubers/motovloggers) all the people I've met that's rode the FTR just doesn't care about it. They had the same exact experience as I. Fell in love with the beauty and the power then actually rode it and felt nothing special. If you want a "RAW, technologically unrefined" motorcycle, buy a bike from the 80s for $1,500 (as I did).
I absolutely love mine. Sharp handling combined with a smooth powerful delivery. Unexpectedly, it's a decent pillion bike as well. That did surprise me. This will be a long term bike for me.
Having owned a "Scrambler" style bike. Duel purpose bikes end up doing both purposes poorly.
I'd probably go for the FTR purely because I own a T120 already. In isolation the Triumph seems a lot better though.

Just one little point. The new Triumph company is not the same as the old Triumph company. John Bloor only bought the name- not the company and he was supposed to have changed the logo which he did but only slightly ( very cheeky). I own a Triumph Rocket 3 but I don't consider it an original Triumph, different bikes, different company altogether.
I don't see how you can compare these bikes without talking about their massively different ranges. The Indian has horrific fuel economy and coupled with its smaller tank can only get a range of about 130 miles. The Triumph has nearly double the range.
The hell with tec on a bike it just gets in the way

The new S and Carbon versions with 17" wheels have an 800mm seat height, so more manageable for shorter riders. I can flat foot mine with 32" legs.
I got the '22 FTR Rally. Haven't had any regrets.

I bought an FTRs for my 58th Birthday and that Triump is like a Harley (little spots in the mirrors). I have a friend who has a Triump America and he will only ride with me if I ride my DRZ400 (for sone reasob he gets mad being a little spot in the mirrors of my FTR so if you want to be a WIMP LIKE WAYNE go for the Triump.

haven't ridden either, and probably won't ever. I ride my pedal bike and my Breakout. My 3rd bike won't be one of these. It will be a sport tourer.
All this talk on the comments about the Triumph's exhaust is pinpoint but come on the Indian is anyway the better bike by a mile ...No discussion. The exhaust is a minor thing to the Triumphs many issues. FTR all the way.

I had the Triumph Steve Mc Queen. Beautiful, iconic but impractical bike. Too hot at low speeds, uncomfortable at high speeds due to lack of protection. Off road it is fun but the weight and cost of the bike make you desist from mistreating it. Not my cup of tea. Sold after 3 months.
I sold my 1200 after 6 months. Apparently, it's us and not the bike. Go figure. Indian any day.
You were expecting that a naked bike would have wind protection??
@@man87907 Of course not, but I thought I liked other features that I didn't find instead. It's a nice bike, but if you notice the market, almost everyone sells it after a year. Also the keyless key is a nuisance, it immediately gave me electronic traction problems, water leaks, hard gear shifting. I had problems with the spokes of the rims and the right rear suspension was leaking oil due to the heat of the exhaust - all this in just 3 months! It didn't impress me at all
@@andrea737 I’ve had my Steve McQueen Scrambler for almost a year now and have been off road with it many times and 1700 mile road trip. Absolutely none of the issues you mentioned. Added a dart fly screen to take some of the wind off my chest at higher speeds and replaced the mirrors with TEC bar ends. Maybe you got a lemon, but somehow I doubt it. 🤔
@@bobberdude557 I may have been unlucky, but in 3 months I have done 3,000 kilometers and enough off-road. The bike is beautiful but the flaws are real, just read the various forums, it wasn't just me who got them.
The slow-filling FTR tank is more irritating than it sounds. I pulled up at a pump once at the same time as a bloke with a Mercedes Sprinter van, and he filled his tank faster, ha!
Read a review about that exact point but nobody seems to mention it . Especially small tank that many manufacturers also produce. Cheers 🍻
@@paulbarnes6124 plus once I had just under a quarter of a tank left (motorway with no hard shoulder) and it conked out as if it had run out of fuel. I don’t know why. I waited for a hair raising minute or two at the side of the road and sloshed it about, then carried on.
I'd take the Scrambler for sure.😎 (I may be biased by my ownership of a 2020 T120😗).
About the FTR, I must say I'd be more interested if it were branded as a Polaris!😘 Oh, and styled a bit less like a Harley.
I've been into motorcycles since a very young age in the late '50s. The Indian branding has always been a serious negative to me. Indian produced primitive Neanderthal bikes in their original hard-tail flathead form; they were banckrupted in the early '50s for good reason. Then there were the numerous atempted revivals of the '60s and '70s. First by failing British manufactures and later by a string of lack-luster Far-East junk purveyors. There may be devoted fans from an older generation, but to anyone under 74 the Indian nameplate evokes images of various failed bikes from England, Indonesia, Taiwan and Japan. Canada has done better; how about, for example, the excellant verticle twins Bombarier/Rotax has designed for BMWs F series? A Polaris badged bike styled more like a KTM would greatly improve the FTR.
I agree with you on a lot of that but I don't understand how the Indian FTR is styled like a Harley. Their cruisers certainly are but not the FTR. I also think KTM makes the ugliest motorcycles on the market but that is all just personal preference, hard to evaluate looks.

@@steveh7108 I mean it is factually correct that Indian went bankrupt in the 50s and the numerous attempts to restart it were flops. But yeah I am confused why you would want to make an FTR look like a KTM and what Harley the FTR is copied from.

I can attest to the poor offroad chops of the FTR. Fine on a dirt road, wouldn't do anything more extreme and feel good about it.
I put Michelin Anakee Wild tyres on mine and took it properly off-road in a wet, twisty, woodland enduro course. It performed better than I expected but it was overheating like mad!
@@Alexmaystudio Yeah, it certainly can be done and a braver rider then me can do much better, lol. The weight, wheels, suspension travel, and lack of skid plate make it less then ideal though.

Triumphs rear suspension is flawed. Lots of complaints by owners. Should have used a mono-shock.

Triumph is trading more and more heavily on nostalgia to sell bikes I think. I love the look of the Indian front to back, the Triumph on the other has the weakest looking rear end style wise, even worse without the longer exhausts to break it up. These bikes are all about looks and the Indian walks all over the Triumph.

Triumph scrambler models have WEAK FRAMES THAT CRACK! Triumph will have you wait up to 12 months to repair your bike.. and thats if it is even covered by warranty. Good luck if the frame cracks and your out of warranty.
