    Replaced the Steering Column Bearing (Ford Calls it a Dust Shield) on a 2013 F-150. It should apply to all 2009-2017 F-150s.
    Symptoms include:
    - Noticed over bumpy roads and while driving over imperfections
    - Light tapping or clunking sound
    - Light tapping or pulse through the steering wheel

    Great video!
    I would add....
    Clean off the shaft in the area where the bearing seats really well, also add some new grease to that surface. Clean the rest of the shaft as well, as any dirt build up is potentially going to end up in the bearing as it slides up the shaft. Being a slow speed application so to speak, it wouldn't hurt to pack the bearing with a little more grease.

    Well done. I've noticed a fine vibration in my 2016 steering wheel, the only way I can describe it is the vibration of humming, with no noise, odd.

      Odd. I guess it could be lots of things. Kind of makes me wonder if something is getting out of balance

    I've been thinking about replacing this bearing as well. I have a 2017, but it's making similar weird noises. I can feel it just a little bit, but I can hear it more than I feel. I've tried to record the sound but it's almost imperceptible in a recording even though it's very perceptible to my ears in real time. The best way I can describe it is the sound of a car going over rumble strips on the freeway. But it's not quite as loud and there's almost none of the tactile feeling there. Almost as if you were in the left lane and the car in the right lane went over the rumble strips. You can hear it but you don't really feel it. The other thing that happens for me is that the sound is only noticeable when I'm turning right. The other caveat is that it's only perceptible in the driver's seat. If you're sitting in the passenger seat, you don't hear anything. And it only happens when I'm above 30 or 35 mph. As I slow down or speed up inside of a turn, the pitch of the noise changes accordingly.

      Yeah it's super weird. Hopefully this fix would work for you

    I’m getting a buzzing harmonic vibration in my steering wheel going down the highway. But when I turned the wheel and put some tension on the wheel it stops it. Drives me nuts but the steering wheel is firm and not loose at all.

      @NSQGarage  Месяц назад

      If it relieves itself when you apply input, it might be something in the suspension that tightens up when you change steering angle. Just a thought though

    Did you have any play in your steering wheel? On my 2016 that rod moves a little bit side to side. Such a poor design by Ford. I have play but my uca are shot and will be upgrading in the coming weeks.

      No noticable play in the steering wheel

    Wish you included a video of the actual sound while driving. Have an annoying buzzing, vibration noise ,when at 60+ mph and with wheel in the center going straight down the road. If it turn slightly either way, something tightens up and it stops. I have fairly rough tires also so that doesn't help but its driving me nuts.

    • @NSQGarage
      @NSQGarage  2 года назад

      Yeah I'm sorry about that. It would have been really hard to get with road and wind noise. I would think it would be some sort of joint if putting pressure with steering input makes it go away. Unfortunately I don't think it's the steering column bearing.

      My 2016 does the same thing. Going straight there’s what I can only describe as a slight buzzing vibration noise almost sounds right behind the steering column or behind instrument panel and goes away when I slightly turn the wheel to the left or right.
