In a recent announcement, Remind Magazine revealed the earnings from Alex Van Halen’s recent auction, where the legendary Van Halen drummer sold off a vast collection of his personal gear and instruments. Collaborating with Backstage Auctions, Inc., the event took place from June 1 to June 9 and featured 350 items, each accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity from Alex himself.
Among the standout items was the drum kit Alex used during 111 shows, starting in 1986 and continuing through Van Halen’s 2015 North American tour. This iconic kit, featuring kick drums, cymbals branded with the band’s logo, and other gear stored in road cases, fetched an impressive $125,000. Another notable sale included a drumhead used during the 2015 tour, signed by Alex in 2023, which sold for $3,312.79. Additionally, the family encyclopedias garnered just over $1,000, and three handwritten copies of Van Halen practice notes sold for $1,000. These notes, titled ‘Van Halen Trio Jam: (We Learn),’ ‘Van Halen Trio Jam: (We Know),’ and ‘Van Halen Practice!,’ were meticulously xeroxed to preserve their condition.

It takes A LOT of youthful energy to play at their level and your. Alex has to be tired and more content to just simply spend time with those he loves. Thank you Alex! It's a bit strange that he got rid of very personal family items dating back to their days in Holland. This is all family legacy stuff. It's hard to believe his kids wouldn't have wanted a lot of that stuff.

I actually was one of the auction bidders on his 5150 Ludwig Supraphonic 14×5 snare drums . Got outbid in last minute.But happy for new owner. VH will always be alive in rock-n- roll hearts!

Id be curious how much the B&W striped kit used on the 81 Fair Warning tour went for. That is by far is his most iconic and innovative kit and set the stage for other drummers to copy. That kit deserves to be in the Smithsonian.
Alex, please take care of yourself. As a high school kid who played drums in jazz band, I had a judge at a jazz contest tell me he knew I listened to rock and not jazz by the way I played. On road trips with the school band in the late 1980's....I controlled the music and volume from my boom box. Everyone heard VH loud and proud. Glad you changed instruments with your brother. Thanks for the music!!!!!

Somebody should create a museum with all retired dudes and have all that stuff so people can go look at it take pictures I would definitely pay 100 bucks to sit behind that kit for 5 minutes

Man the drummers that will play the holy grails of drums from a God gifted Drummer, Alex is doing the right thing no one will replace his brother, and too Alex your brother inspired me to pick up an imitate his works on the guitar and keep me out of trouble. And mind you also the word of God.

How much did the neck brace go for? That sounds like chump change for a guy like AVH, who should have a few shekels from being in one of the world's greatest and best selling bands. Gear I can understand, but who would want some other guy's awards? Seems strange.

What does this accomplish, Well it cleans out his storage for starters, next up if you re-watch the video it would appear he is giving the proceeds to some horse group. Next up is drums are meant to be played and while some will never be played again, some will. Some might go to private collections a few will end up on display in places like the Hard Rock hotels.
As far as walking away from his livelihood, that is laughable. He never played on any outside of Van Halen projects, never did a solo record and besides the Van Halen records his discography is zero. The only guy he had ever played with, his little brother has passed on. What did you think he was going to do? Start another band? Be happy for the guy that he got to do what he wanted on his terms instead of his heirs fighting over what to do with his legacy. I would not be surprised if next up was his portion of the Van Halen Catalog. I believe Mike signed away his portion not sure about Dave or Sammy's either and Wolfie might not have a choice.
