What is not to like? The man was a monster. He was also the Leader of the Band. Alex was the guy. Eddie was always a waste, and Dave was so badass it was the perfect friction. It was great, it had an end, all great ones do. I was a big fan of old skool VH and also a huge fan of solo Hagar... I actually got on stage with Sammy when I was 17 years old and he threw me into the crowd. Love that era. When Sammy joined VH, I felt like two of my favs just perished. Yup. But Sammy survives and does great music with many projects.
@@jamesbarrick3403 Alex was definitely a great drummer, just a personal preference on drum tones....but like I said as soon as you hear him play you know exactly who it was, so he definitely had a signature sound
Funny to hear " I'm not a fan of Alex Van Halen's Tone" actually makes me mad😂 I'm serious I'm curious what tones you do like and what Player achieved it?........
Once a kit like this is mic'd though it always sounds bad ass in a concert venue.I never cared for his bass drum sound & not a fan of this head style either, but there's no denying once you hear those bass drums & snare blasting through a pa system, you can instantly tell it's Big Al for sure.
🤣 Beer taps on the Bass drums! AVH is always coming up with something outside the box for the visuals of his kits! I remember the Mini frig in the bass drum a while back!🤣
Nothing says rock and roll like a bass drum the has been converted in to a keg of non-alcoholic beer! I absolutely love rock and roll more than anything!!
Ludwig needs to come out with an AVH kit. Maybe like the one he used at Cafe Wha? in 2012 or A kit like his tour kit from 1991 to 93. Both set us had one bass drum. But I'd rather see AL out doing seminars about his drum parts and his swing and sound. I love AL.
@Frank Burdo Drums 🇮🇹 They like making $$. The big 3 that stayed with Ludwig during their heyday were Ringo, Bonham and Al Van Halen. Ludwig should just go back to making exclusively 3 ply shelled drums. They are the best.
@@chrismoody9855that one was actually a chrome wrap over maple. In fact, it was for sale at some music store a couple of years ago… $64,000 … and that was just the drums. No cymbals or stands
I see a lot of instructional videos of how to play the beginning of Hot for Teacher, but I've never been able to find a video of Alex actually playing the whole intro live. I found one where he played a little of it, but normally he starts out with the main shuffle pattern on the kicks with ride and snare. If anyone knows where a video of Alex playing it in its entirety, please share.
I just made that same observation just now. I’m glad to see that someone else noticed that as well. It’s all about the tape underneath the batter head. Even standard duct tape works just as good as gaffers tape. And all gaffers tape is, is weather stripping
When I saw the 1980 Invasion kit in Cleveland years ago I actually thought about sneaking back there for a quick picture with my right hand high in the air .... my wife said " you'll get arrested " i said this is like once in lifetime.... so i didn't but i thought about it 😂
LOVELY kit isn’t it ! Well Alex needed the booze flow built into the drums themselves….Just remember those old days where he would pour all those cans of Colt 45 or Schlitz Malt into himself and without proper civilised pub guidance it would go all over the toms and snare and RUIN them😢..He needed a nice little refrigeration unit to keep things nice and civilised…..lol.
I don't think this is a live gig kit, probably a photo kit. AVH had Simmons pads inside the shells and the only live drum was the snare. Everything else was Simmons.
I am not a good drummer. I have my moments... lol. I would pay good money if somebody would teach me how to play HOT FOR TEACHER. I will go on record that is the very best drum riff in all of rock n roll music. Yup I need to learn that.
Lot of haters on here. If this kit were set up, tuned, and mic’d up for a Drumeo video, it’d sound a lot better. His kit is unnecessarily extravagant for his style of playing, but that was par for most rock drummers in the 70s, 80s, and 90s - until Grunge became popular. AVH isn’t the most technical drummer, but much like Ringo and Lars, he’s great because of his feel. He has an identifiable sound despite never overplaying. His parts were always perfect for the songs.
Thats GREAT.. BUT THE SNARE SOUNDS LIKE A HIGH PITCHED TOM WITH BROKE SNARE SPRINGS...AND THOSE TOMS ARE SO TIGHT...THEY ARE RINGING LIKE A BELL. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET THAT ACTION ON THAT KIT.TUNED LOWER, WOULD BE BETTER.😉
as a former drummer i think that the increasing technological inventions like doble, triple basedrums and multiple toms are running the art of drumplaying. A violine or a trumpet are the same as 200 years ago. If the same happend to them we wont have classical orchesters any more. Insane
I know what you mean. My approach to that is use that sound you love as a baseline. A starting point to developing your very own. What really drives me insane is how you’ll see where dudes bought the orange Bonham vistalite drums… then put the inverted Ballentine beer symbol on the front head like Bonham did
@MyVideos-fm7ug yeah it drives me nuts too...we are all individuals and we should treat ourselves as such. For 75k starting Alex better bring these to my house
Definitely! And bring beers!
😂
How did you come up with the $75k starting point?
is it still bidding? link? I don't have that money but I'm interested
Driving Eddie's Ferrari 🏎️
Alex was the first rock drummer that inspired me to listen to rock music
"I'm no AVH behind the drums"
Proceeds to kill it...👍
The drums are beautifully tuned.
Beautiful kit.. love the tones..
I dont even play the drums but i would set this up in my garage and worship it
His classic snare wasn't terribly ringy. It was iconic enough to know this.
I feel like I’m in the band watching him play I can imagine what it feels like to sit at his kit and play. Oh shit.
I love the big sound of this kit. It sounds full
I was never a fan of Alex's tone, but one things for sure when you here them you know exactly who it is!
Personally. Do not like much of the tone . Especially the snare . That sounds lousy . Almost like another tom tom . Not a fan .😮👎

Very True and very Rare! I find that Stuart Copeland also has a very Signature sound, and its cued off of the Snare Sound

All I wanna do is play drums now. Cats like this are the greatest
Great video, amazing kit from an amazing moment. That´s rock history, man!
He tunes his toms high. They sound really good.
Big drums tuned high is an unbeatable sound
they are not in tune with each other AT ALL

I like the big sound on this kit.very iconic sound.Alex and Ludwig thay both rock 🥁🤘thanks for the tour
You did a fine job. Alex would be proud. Very impressive playing.
If I had money to blow, I would surely buy these. Alex is one of my heroes. I wish he would come out of hiding.
Hi David this is great! You should have more videos like this.

Will I be able to load this drum set into my 2003 Subaru Forester? Of course the back seats will be down!
I don't think they would fit in my Ford Expedition EL(extra long), even without the drum cases and the rack🤣🤣🤣
The octobans sound great !
So jealous 😍😍😍😍😍🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁👍🏻

Alex played big! All those cymbals and drums are massive! Great vídeo.
Hot for teacher was played on Simmons pads. The sound of his snare drum comes from Alex.

nice chops. wrist of fire!!!!!! nice
Only Alex should play this drum set. He should buy it.
You're a great drummer
Pretty nice. Had mine for decades . 24 inch
One thing Alex wasn't known for was a ringy snare drum. He taped the A under the the head for a reason.

Never noticed before but it sounds like the snare is off on the snare drum. I doubt it is but it seems like there's more "ring"
than crack to it...
He was playing a Tama Rosewood Mastercraft
As last played by Alex...until this video
Speed king pedals? 👍
Cool Mon
Anyone have any idea what general pitch Alex's snare is tuned to.? E, G, F, F#. ???
Are those Ludwigs the Legacy Maple or the Classic Maple?
Is the snare all the way off he layed low rasp for dure
is that Hal Blaine's kit next to it?
I can't afford that price! (Still paying child support.) Is there an option for just a 4 piece ? 😄😁😆😅🤣😂

The two extra bass drums for visual is stupid. I always thought he played all 4. Later I found out he was only playing 2
Sound like Ludwig's
Custom made Octobans????? Yeah by Tama!
Never been an Alex fan. He's no Eddie.
Why do all of these rock star drums sound like they were fitted with trash can lids and plastic bags?
Only costs 10 times more than a Roland.
