Moreover, I'm grateful I live in a time when America, Britian, and France are all close allies as we should be. A real oddity of the Bayonet Hill story is that the monument that marks the event is off by about 38 kilometers. One misunderstanding led to another and, while there were suggestions that the monument was in the wrong place, no one got around to pinning down the real location until a retired USAF colonel did so in 2017. Yes, wars and battles tend to be confusing, and documenting locations isn't the highest priority.

    The most simple way to explain the National Guard (and Air National Guard) is that they are the militaries of the individual States. Which also serves as organized militia for the federal government to call on in war. They take their orders from their State governors under normal circumstances. They are equipped and trained similarly to the U.S. military, and mostly serve part-time.

    • @thomasnelson6161
      @thomasnelson6161 2 месяца назад

      @ToonStory-fh4gn I've never actually googled it before, but that does seem to be him. His son, David Crockett Nelson was born in Camden County, Georgia. If that birthday is correct I have a few details wrong and it looks like he was born in the America and some earlier ancestor came over from the British isles. I thought I remembered him leaving from Liverpool, but that doesn't necessarily mean he was english. He may have been irish. Thanks for pointing that out, but it does create a lot more questions. Also, I could be wrong about some of this. There aren't a lot of records to go on anyway from this time period in America.

    • @thomasnelson6161
      @thomasnelson6161 2 месяца назад

      @ToonStory-fh4gn it looks like I need to revise my research a little, because the man we both just googled is the one I'm talking about. His third and youngest son, David Crockett Nelson, was my direct ancestor and the first of my family in florida. He lived just across river from where I am now in Georgia before he moved to Florida. So my family has been within 50 miles of where I am now for maybe 7 generations.

    Oddly enough - though the Stinson and its similar "cousin" the piper J-3 cub (L-4 Grasshopper) had all the shortcomings that you mentioned,
    they were very light, agile aircraft with excellent short field performance.
    There were indeed used as artillery spotter aircraft.
    One of the most unlikely uses was in WW2 when a pilot on "spotter" duty,
    decided to have Bazooka's attached under his wings,
    and would attack tanks with his "Grasshopper".
    (look up Charles Carpenter or "Bazooka Charlie".)

    That National Guard has origins in early American history, where each colony had a military for self defense since it would take considerable time for the British to transport and field a sizable force when needed.
    They still function as state militias, with the governor in charge.
    Because of the Posse Comitatus Act, the US military has heavy restrictions on being used on US soil, against US citizens, even to supplement law enforcement.
    But since the National Guard are state organizations, these restrictions don’t apply to them. So they can be used in times of emergency, or natural disaster to help law enforcement without actually declaring martial law. For example my state recently activated its National Guard in response to flooding to help with building barriers, evacuations, and even rescue efforts. Or when some riots broke out, the National Guard was deployed to take place of law enforcement in other areas so more officers were able to deal with riots.
    But they can be Federalized if needed by the US government, in which case Posse Comitatus applies to them.

    Face foliage = womb broom = mustache, 1:36, and it was the first thing mentioned from the picture, before the bayonets. You placed your money well.
    The National Guard is basically part-time army. Often called the Weekend Warriors, these folks train to a much lesser degree than full time military and are ostensibly back-up for the primary military branches. They also are deployed in-country for emergencies.
    While this often leads to a common opinion that the National Guard is universally under-trained, and this may be true on average, some of the National Guard are quite heavily trained. Despite the fact that they are deployed to combat areas far less, they can fill roles operating heavy vehicles including tanks, fly helicopters like the Apache, and so forth. I am far from an authority on knowledge for the Nat Guard; most of what I know comes from working with people who serve on it, so I would appreciate any corrections if I am incorrect.

    • @ToonStory-fh4gn
      @ToonStory-fh4gn  3 месяца назад +1

      Ah thank you, I didn't understand the expression here :)
      Thanks for the explanation on the Natioanl Guard, I have to admit that I only hear about it in films or TV series when martial law is declared in a state in films or TV shows when all hell breaks loose and the governor decides to pull out all the stops, so I appreciate the background!

      France was hit with a slight delay because the banking system was resilient, but the effects were quite profound and long-lasting. For Germany, which was very dependent on the US economy, this plunged the country into a very serious crisis that shattered the Weimar Republic. And in Italy, I think the results were hard to see because the economy was already in the doldrums anyway, or they devaluated the money and it destroyed it... But I am really not sure about this one

    FDR knew which is something I believe is incredible, being willing to negotiate with the American public and still allowing Europe to realize they had a ally, is master class politics. It's amazing that America had so many competent people like Eisenhower. The was no way the Germans could have foreseen just how aggressive it would end, especially with America's preforms in ww1. I wish if I could ask Hitler one question, "why did you honestly think declaring was in America was the right option?". It's something I notice no one can explain fully. They didn't need to, ussr already was at war, the east would have continued their campaign.. why turn another country who will obviously change the wars trajectory when you're lacking logistics, I will never get it.

So, the Communist Propaganda wasn't wrong so much as out of date as the Army had recently reinstated bayonet training in Basic Training and Infantry School.
