I made this yesterday. Made a half a recipe in an 8*8 pan, but kept 3 eggs. Just my husband and I so half size is better. When I whipped the cream I added a couple drops of almond flavoring. I usually do that when ever I make whipped cream because we like it that way. You are right about the texture of the cake, it is not soggy, but more like a luxurious texture, kind of reminded me of a cheesecake. Delicious! So glad I just made a half because I could just gobble this up. Thanks for the recipe.
Oh my gosh! I tried this recipe to make my mother-in-law and sister-in-laws birthday today and everybody loved it! ❤ And they are picky about their tres leches cake I was so nervous to make this type of cake because I don't like when the cake is too moist or too dry. Im very picky with my tres leches. I've only found one place where I live that I love and always purchase. I made this last month for my hubby and it's been the most authentic cake I've ever tried. It was a bit with my family so I don't think I'll ever have to buy one we've again. The only thing was that some parts were dry even though I was careful to wet Al the cake so idk if maybe I would need more leche. Other than that I loved it, highly recommend for people to make it you will not be disappointed!! Thank you for this recipe

In my family we do let it sit for 12+ hours. And we make sure to use Molina brand of Vanilla or any other Mexican vanilla. Also we like to make sure cut off any humps in the bread so it’s leveled and the mills lay in evenly.
Mine was more dry in bottom. And milk didn't absorb to the bottom. I am making it again now and cooking less time. This cake tasted so good though. Reminds me of rice pudding lol.
I made the cake last night and used your recipe because it just looked so perfect in the photo and video that I could not reisit. I did run in to a little problem because my hand mixer...one of the whisks broke which left me with only a one peg whisking hand mixer and after 20 mins of trying to get the stiff peaks for the egg whites... I gave up and said screw it and used the egg whites but they were not stiff so I will let you know how it turned out but I know it will taste great regardless!!! About to go and make the whipped topping now and finish the cake and eat it immediately after I frost it with the whipped cream

Hi Ana! I haven't tried it myself, so I'm not sure how it would go. Due to the nature of tres leches cake you’ll have to be a bit careful and definitely use foil and not paper liners, which would absorb the three milks. I hope that helps!

For the topping that should work as long as you like the flavor. For the whipped cream, I am not sure how well it whips up. If you can whip it to be like a whipped cream consistency it should work. 😊
Yes, many Tres Leches Cakes do not use butter. After a lot of testing, my version (with the butter!) produces a light, but wonderfully flavorful cake that’s spongy, yet still sturdy enough to absorb all of the milk.

Yes! Whipping the egg whites to stiff peaks gives this cake its texture. You can't whip them to stiff peaks if they aren't separated from the yolks.

Sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk are typically sold in cans that have ounce labels on them. So I haven’t measured them in cups.
