Billy. this is exactly what we need. great video! not just people demoing the Modes but how to use it. one thing no one seems to cover is that if it's possible to start an active track video (and then stop it) with gesture control. or even any video for that matter

That is very helpful because I have a Dji spark
great video!! few things i think u should point out. Its recommended to hook up to the phones wifi even if u only use gesture mode just in case u need to take control of the drone in an emergency. If u want to use gesture mode out the box with the fly more combo u would have to reset the drones wifi connection as it is set to work through the remote but only for the fly more combo. I had this problem wile trying to connect to the drones wifi. Great video!!!
Here are the steps to record video using DJI Spark in gesture mode.
Step 1: Start recording video.
Step 2: Perform a palm launch.
Step 3: Enter gesture mode.
If you take off using wifi and your phone, then start video, then activate gesture mode from the 'mode menu', you will be told that it can't enter gesture mode as video is running
But...if you switch on Spark, then begin the video before you fly, then use double tap to enter gesture mode, it will go into gesture mode , fly and keep recording video
Im guessing this post, altho very helpful...was compiled before the update allowing "Gesture to start video" was created?
I feel like that a video consisting of you raising your hand and waving it is kind of weird
This helps a lot. I’ve been having a lot of problems and I also think the sun messes with it. The one that rarely works for me is the wave to have it turn into follow me mode. Everything else works unless it’s in the sun or something
I haven't had any trouble with ActiveTrack. Maybe it's the color clothes you are wearing lol
Keep your fingers together and your palm/s facing perpendicular to the drone. This helps it recognize gestures.

The motion I hit on to send the drone away is more of a side to side motion. The written instructions actually say this. Which when I couldn't get it to reliably recognize the gesture I RTFM'd.

just incase any odd behaviour 4rm spark
like me. spark started going high and had to use RC to stop her going any higher
so even though controller not need
u should always have controller or device connected to spark when trying hand control or doing any gestures.

Great video and you made it look easy, for some reason mine launches ok but it won't hover it does it's own thing in different directions and I have to wait till the battery goes flat for it to land....frustrating! any ideas?

Thanks. It looked like it moved back some when it first saw your hand. Mine hasnt done that yet...Will it stay back if you hold up your hand...walk towards it...and then lower your hand and walk backwards?

Hey Billy! Thanks for the Tut! Just got my spark! So we know how to take a pic by the hand finger square gesture. But how do we get the Spark to start recording video. Is there some kind of gesture for hitting the record button? Did I miss this somewhere? Anyway...keep doing what you do...you've helped me immensely with my Mavic Pro. - Bernie "Peace!"

Billy, how about the quality of still photography with the Spark camera? That is a often a complaint on the Mavis Pro. I love the portability of the Spark - which is a huge draw, but, as a still photographer, I am interested in learning about still photography capabilities. Thanks, man. Peace.

What I would like to know is, does the spark go into GPS mode automatically in gesture mode or is it default to atti mode? If so, how does the spark stay still in flight?
If I take off using gesture control, can I then simply start flying with the controller? If so, does that turn off gesture control, or can I return the drone to me with the controller and then land with gesture control?

My spark will not video in follow mode. I have controller set up, get it into follow mode, click video button on controller. iPhone shows it recording, yet no video. Can you help??

When using gesture mode I notice you set it up with your controller. Does that mean you need to leave your cell and radio on and off to the side or can you turn them off when flying in gesture mode?
hi recently i brought my spark and was trying the gesture but its not working . i did follow ur instruction still no luck , front led light solid red and real led flashing yellow

Okay when I gesture for my spark to back up/move farther by waving, it will do so but only a very short distance - nothing compared to what’s seen here. Also, when I beckon for it, it just lands instead of descending and coming back to me. Is something wrong with my spark or is there like a setting that needs to be tweaked?
If I want to record it. Do I need to hit record on my phone or controller first? Because there is a gesture already for selfie.

Hey man. I just bought dji spark few days ago. I wonder about gesture mode, do I have to calibrate it everytime i go to new places? And also what about the gps. Does it lock the gps by itself without using the phone? How can we sure about that? I had dji p3s before so Im not used to this features.
Spark has its own GPS does not rely on your phones. You can see that it's locked from your phone's control app or from the LEDs. You don't calibrate gesture mode, but I calibrate the spark before my first flight. If you use a phone as your main controller, you should calibrate that as well. But Ii use the dedicated controller which is a Should Have accessory IMO.
