I've been waiting to do murals been asked heaps but I've only got projectors and I've only used the grid method before to enlarge and make proportions on point so I'm glad I found this aswell I seen it in another vid and the idiot never explained so last halfa hour been trying to find out what it was called then google came thru so I'm stoked game changer for sure grid is way to much effort on massive wall awhere this so much easier lol
Really, truly, much respect to your technical skill and awesome choice of subject matter. Pop art wouldn't exist without fat, wet, lips! Also, thanks for the insight concerning color reflection related to realistic gold painting. Green indeed! Cheers
This was a great explanation! Thank you for teaching me something completely new today. I've been painting large-scale scenic drops for theatre for thirty years and always used the grid method. I can see how this could be useful for odd-shaped walls or curves that don't take a straight edge.
I used to do something similar in concept,Id free hand straight lines and relevant curves over a reference and then recreate the lines and curves at a decent scale on my desired surface and draw the image using those lines and curves and the overlayed reference to compare as i draw
It's truly a game changer. I used to spend so much time measuring to create murals or waiting for it get dark and project hoping a street light wouldn't interfere with my projector or that I could find an outlet to plug into or rent a generator. This method allows me to just show up and get to work with very little prep time/work.
Yoooo I just want you to know that I appreciate this video so much. Thank you for blessing my game, I saw this technique used recently at the yard and knew there was something up with it! Absolute FIIIYYYYYAAAAAA! 👍👍👍
Wry good clear explanation. Great! Added for those watching: other ways instead of lowering opacity, you can set the wall image to Overlay or others that may help you see the art with more contract. But again is always different.
I use the tape pieces method and a image overlay app on my android phone, the tape pieces can later get removed after outlining the mural with gesso sticks 🎆
Do you have any advice or suggestions for the sketch part in the black book? I have my lettering and what not down, but I’m not very talented at drawing and sketching characters or skulls … any tips to improve in that?
Hey im doing a mural on an outdoor building wall 35' high by 67' wide and i made the design to fit the wall exactly edge to edge. I cant get a lift, only scaffolding and i cant move it away from the building to get the camera centered when i take the picture so i kinda have to look up and or be far away from the wall. Then when i place my design over the picture of the wall in procreate, i have to stretch it over the wall and it looks ok but how can i be sure it hasn't distorted?
I'm using a skinny cap, combined with "can control". Where you hold the can in relation to the wall will give you a different effect when laying down line work.
I have never heard doodle grid before , your boy Woak uses it too. I know you explained it but I still don’t understand it. Is it only used for murals? Nice work.
Yoooo I had no idea this was a thing! A few months back I started drawing random "scribbles" all over my canvasses and to my surprise my eye would pick up all these different viewpoints and see different compositions of figures and their accompanying vanishing points and horizon lines. Not that I have a name for it, this makes my studies much more interesting! Thanks for the video!
I use a combination of caps depending on what I'm doing within the piece. But my go to caps are the skinny cap, or the cream skinny, the astro fat, and the soft cap.
Its better in the fact that its less time consuming. You don't have the tedious task of trying to get perfectly straight 90 degree lines and carry around a massive straight edge on you. It does the same thing as a traditional grid in less time and with less equipment.
You ever watch something so good it makes you mad?
Yeah...
iv been painting murals for years and this doodle method is a legit game changer for me. thank you

This grabbed and kept my attention the whole time and I don't even paint! Amazing work, Biggs!

And it's MUCH faster of a process!
Amazing. I never thought of this method! Great work.

You make it look so easy 👍
i don understand the concept of doodle grid before to see this video, thank you bro.
Greetings from Colombia

I really need to make that video. I get asked that a lot.
Saw the term "doodle grid" on another video, and wondered what it was. Thanks for a great explanation and video.

Beautiful work 👍
THANK YOU!!awesome work
When sketching: How do you get your white spray paint can nozzle to spray such a “fine” line ?
I'm using a skinny cap, combined with "can control". Where you hold the can in relation to the wall will give you a different effect when laying down line work.
Really useful tip!
Like your style thanks for the gift very helpful
this was super helpful. you def earned that sub! this is really useful brother! Thank you for this
Good job man
Been spray paint for a lil under a year and definitely want to try portraits. Love the vid! Love the work! Keep creating brotha!
Awesome video brother, very clear and useful info ✌🏾
I have never heard doodle grid before , your boy Woak uses it too. I know you explained it but I still don’t understand it. Is it only used for murals? Nice work.
No you can use it on any piece. I may do another doodle grid video soon.
Thank you. My proportions are always off by a little. I freehand draw my paintings.
Thanks for the tips!
Great work bro ❤
I learned so much! Thanks!

Jeremy, is there an android app for a doodle grid? Great video, I'd like to try this for portrait painting.
I'm sure there is, but unfortunately I don't know the name of it since I use iPhone.
Did you find one??
Yesss another dope artist to follow! Subbed
So Dope!!

Dallas 🤘

Awesome!!!!
What Ipad are you using ?
I use the Ipad Pro right now, but when this video was posted it was just a 3rd or 4th gen ipad mini. You can do it with any ipad.
What is the Name for the App when you use the iPhone for the Doodle Grid?
Procreate
Awesome,I always had a soft spot for graffiti art
nice work !

Hey brother! Cool content, keep going!!!
Keep em cominnnmmm
Great work! Looks super cool. What caps do you normally use? Ex. Fat cap? Skinny cap?
I use a combination of caps depending on what I'm doing within the piece. But my go to caps are the skinny cap, or the cream skinny, the astro fat, and the soft cap.
@@stemandthorn that’s what’s up man. I appreciate the response. Keep crushin’ 🤙🏼
That’s genius!!!
Using app name plzz
It’s called procreate on the iPad.
Gold reflect green bc everything reflects green, and yellow and blue and red and all those colors together
Wow 🤩🤩🤩
Tongues are gross but useful. 😉 New subscriber here! Nice work and your explanation of the doodle grid was amazing. Looking forward to seeing more!
How did you do the super thin lines on the toungh
I used a stencil tip.
Any free apps that let you change the opacity of an image?
I'm sure there are. I'm just not sure what they are.
any mobile drawing app will do the job, ibis paint x, autodesk sketchbook, adobe fresco…
omg did you come up with this?? this is genius i use grids when doing portraits and had no idea how to do it on bigger canvases, thanks so much!!
No it’s definitely been around for a while :D
Apk?
App name
I use Procreate on the ipad, but you can use any program that allows you to overlay images and change their opacity.
🔥🔥🔥
Does anyone can do this?
Absolutely. Anyone can do it.
thanx :)
ahhh now i get it thx lol
Idk if this is cheating but i suppose all that matters is the end result so i might try this. ❤
This is a tool like any other. Using whatever makes your process more efficient and work better for you isn't "cheating".
Wow you are dope
Okay but how is this better than a traditional grid?
Its better in the fact that its less time consuming. You don't have the tedious task of trying to get perfectly straight 90 degree lines and carry around a massive straight edge on you. It does the same thing as a traditional grid in less time and with less equipment.
Waw
Ur good as fuck 🔥🥵
Thank you!!!
Anyone here from doke ?
"Tongues are gross, man." - Jeremy
I used this technique to do this Shrek mural in my garage: ruclips.net/video/OIBZe3F1dxc/видео.html
Very cool. I am in Dallas too and would love to invite you on my channel. Would be cool to feature an artist on my channel. I hope to hear back!
Sure I'd love to make that happen!
