No, it's not something most people know, but painting over someone else's work in most cases is seen as disrespect. If you do cover someone's work, there are rules. One of those rules is making sure you paint the wall a solid color to remove their work completely before you start. In this case, I didn't have the day to waste buffing the wall before starting and made the decision that there shouldn't be any issues since the festival is about recycling walls and putting new work up all the time.
