    Most informative video I've seen yet, great stuff. A relative brought their dog over while visiting and it 'urinated' an unknown amount of times in one spot in my bedroom and now my whole apartment reeks, not even steam cleaning helped. The actual carpet is fine but the padding underneath is where the smell seems to be coming from. To get it all at once I'm considering cutting out a 2 foot by 3 foot section out and replacing the padding then washing the cutout section and simply putting it back when it dries. My main concern was just the visible seam it might create but it seems (har) that it wouldn't be much of an issue by just rolling it out with the roller. I'll do a little test section first in the closet to see, hehe.

      Just be careful when washing the carpet piece because urine will sometimes ruin the integrity of the carpet and after cleaning it will start falling apart. I tested a lot and with some carpets it's better just to replace the pad and the carpet when urine is involved.

      @@justsaygold Alright, minor update in case anyone is considering doing the same thing I did. I couldn't find the 'seam' so I just grabbed my old computer panel since it's straight, I then cut a small (ghastly) line in the carpet with the panel as my straight edge. I lifted it up to see underneath then slowly cut upward between the threads on the underside to make sure I was cutting (relatively) straight. I removed a roughly 2' x 4' section and roughly 2.5' x 4.5' of the padding underneath. The actual floor under the padding seems to be some type of cement board too. I washed the carpet section and the smell in my apartment went down by about 60%, it smells noticeably better now. Next I'll try a "protease enzyme cleaner" for the section I removed as well as soak the perimeter of the 'access hole' and will update again whenever I get around to it. Now that I have access I can see how much liquid is required to fully soak the carpet and padding without adding so much that it drips in the unit below me. I'm also going to go around and get some complete carpet replacement quotes for the room, which is roughly 13' x 11'. I'm considering doing a quick patch job just to alleviate the smell then I'll start saving for the complete replacement.

    Another great video! I might get the row separater for the cross seam. I have a crain 437 big foot seam roller that works great as well. I'm been using the black and Decker steamer for my patches. Thanks for the videos, very informative. You do great work!

    Can you tell me what temp a home steam iron should be set at and how long the iron and wet towel need to remain on the pieces to make sure the glue has had time to melt and adhere like it's supposed to? Thanks!

    • @justsaygold
      @justsaygold  3 года назад +2

      I'm not sure on the temp but maybe medium? Just make sure the towel stays wet throughout the process (not soaking wet but lightly wring it out) and I would leave it on the area for about 1 minute. Then re wet the towel and move onto the next section.

    May I ask why you don't use a seam star roller? I followed another one of your videos and have ordered the wrong roller. Aren't they meant to be good for blending the fibres?

    • @justsaygold
      @justsaygold  Год назад

      I do a lot of loop pile repairs, so the star roller would potentially snag a loop and create issues. That's why I just use the smooth roller for everything.

    • @justsaygold
      @justsaygold  3 года назад +1

      @@farealwitit7947 yes some people use the pen to catch a row so that's why I had it there. But I have a hard time doing that with a lot of carpet (especially used worn out carpet doing repairs) so I will usually use a framing square to mark my lines in the carpet and then a cushion back top cutter to make my cuts.
