I think shining’s a bit more terrifying than you give them credit for. I mean, he sings about the evils of reality, gets drunk onstage, and harms himself in front of everyone. What’s more terrifying than that?
True. But I guess I find shining more terrifying because whenever I listen to bands like that, I just get this instant feeling of discomfort, because it feels too real. I love black metal, but I seem a little nervous when listening to dsbm for some reason.
@@ericryan7935 Yeah, exactly. That's really terrifying to encourage the audience to join in on it. I mean, has anyone actually been sent to the hospital or killed at one of his concerts?
Slayer for me was the scariest show, not for the pyrotechnics or anything like that, but it was the fact of how still Tom was on stage (I know it was due to a neck surgery) but he just stared out into the crowd with a look of murder or death in his eyes and belted everything out. Amazing and terrifying experience
My first Slayer show was also the first time I decided to be in the crowd. I usually just sat In the seats but it's fuckin Slayer man so I wanted the experience and boy did I get it. They just started into Repentless, and the crowd went fucking ballistic as expected anyway somehow I ended up on one foot and was falling the people on my right were pushing me up and the people on my left were pulling me trying not to make fall over meanwhile the people behind us were going nuts in the pit. And the whole time this is happening I'm in tears laughing my ass off and Tom noticed all of this and he's kind of looking around to see what's happening and he notices the crowd trying to help me from falling over and I'm looking right at him crying laughing and he just starts laughing too. After the song was over I got my balance back and he gives me a thumbs up and mouths "you good?" Most amazing experience of my life.
Can I just say that I saw behemoth live and found the way nergal looked down the camera for the massive monitor was actually pretty eerie. He gives me the heebie geebies. But then thanked the crowd in a pretty sweet way and I found him quite sweet
I feel like a lot of us are desensitized to the shock value of these bands, even though the concepts and executions are inherently scary. I blame violence in movies and sex on TV.
For anyone who says oh mayhem isn't scary, they're talking about the performances with Dead and Maniac where they would cut themselves, throw pig heads into the crowd, and use special sounds to cause fear
Dead was the only scary one, that’s a legitimately unstable dude who isn’t there to put on a show, he’s there to make everyone know what he’s feeling. Maniac was like Jared Letos joker, it always just felt performative
@@BT-ic2qs Maniac was fucked in his own way. Dead was depressed and suicidal and was obsessed with death. Maniac was obsessed with bodily mutilation. A good example was Skitliv, Maniacs new project after Mayhem, although it started different, it just became similar to the Maniac era of Mayhem. In short, Dead harmed himself to feel close to death and feel the life leaving him, Maniac did it to be a sick fuck and to scare people, not for attention but for personal gratification Edit: he basically enjoyed making people watch him cut and brand himself, and yes he did that. It wasn’t about attention it was rlly just cause he wanted to see himself bleed and watch the audience repulse

However there was one more support band, halo of flies, but they never turned up, so swans played for another 15 mins, at which point my mum drove back home!
The dillinger escape plan know how to put on a hell of a show,I saw them years and years ago. I remember the vocalist climbing on the lights about the crowd and the people blowing flames at the crowd. Man I miss them
I saw the Swans in the nineties, they were not scary, just… strange (apart from M. Gira almost fighting with some Cnut in the audience who I think had disrespected Jarboe, I did not see it). When it was over, we all wondered what we had just seen exactly. And in fact, no-one could pinpoint exactly what felt odd ! Come to think of it, considering how many concerts I've seen in my life, that's an achievement…
@bucky468 I know he's a Satanist, but where does it say that "satanic things" necessarily involve throwing live foxes or any other animals into a crowd of people? I won't deny him ever having done something similar, but I know how easily these things get blown out of proportion, so I'd like to see an official piece of documentation on this specific incident.

True !
@MAST3RCHIEF 98 add the sex he had on stage and fist he threw and you got a deadly show
Lame.
Go suck yourself
well it comes down to would you rather have shit thrown at your face, or pig heads and some guys blood thrown at your face : D
>10 Most Terrifying Live Bands
>Dingleberry Escape Plan
come on livewire...
LOL ...
That livewire got me
Dingleberry 😂😂
seizure in action.. that’s terrifying
Your greentext privileges... hand them over
"DINGLEBERRY" OH GOD
Portal are pretty terrifying. Children would get nightmares for months if they went to Portal’s concerts.
I think shining’s a bit more terrifying than you give them credit for. I mean, he sings about the evils of reality, gets drunk onstage, and harms himself in front of everyone. What’s more terrifying than that?
Not that uncommon
True. But I guess I find shining more terrifying because whenever I listen to bands like that, I just get this instant feeling of discomfort, because it feels too real. I love black metal, but I seem a little nervous when listening to dsbm for some reason.
He also handed out razor blades to a crowd
@@ericryan7935 Yeah, exactly. That's really terrifying to encourage the audience to join in on it. I mean, has anyone actually been sent to the hospital or killed at one of his concerts?
he dead ass sounded like he was speaking in demonic tongues
I'm impressed that you've included vintage SWANS. Brilliant!
1:49, honestly that's just scary as a fire hazard as I do not trust these guys to take the proper precautions at all.
I'd say they have proper measures in case a fire do breaks out
I'm surprised Belphegor isn't on the list
2:05 Terrifying? It seems like a normal Dillinger Escape Plan show to me
BEHEMOTH HELL YEAH!
Can I just say that I saw behemoth live and found the way nergal looked down the camera for the massive monitor was actually pretty eerie. He gives me the heebie geebies. But then thanked the crowd in a pretty sweet way and I found him quite sweet
Behemoths on stage personality doesnt follow them off stage. Nergal is one of the nicest guys I've met in terms of metal musicians
I feel like a lot of us are desensitized to the shock value of these bands, even though the concepts and executions are inherently scary. I blame violence in movies and sex on TV.
But lucky there's a family guy....
Was that last part a family guy reference? 🤔
But where are those good old fashioned valueeees
Yes Chris. Brian Griffin, our dog, is in a black metal band.
I Blame Trump
I’ve seen Behemoth twice. F’kn awesome show.
I will forever remember Behemoth as the band whose lead singer looks kinda like Zog the Eternal from Shadow of War.
Hats off to Batushka. Unlike all other extreme metal bands these guys takin side with God
I wanna see them live someday
G.G Allin was the worst, easily.
The front man from shining seems like a nice, reasonable young man
Who else knew Mayhem would be #1🙋♀️
obviously
@Anthony Krokus was dead the one in the clip I thought it was maniac
@Kurt Cobain yeah, I'm not stupid
@Anthony Krokus thanks
I’ve seen Swans live. The tour for “To Be Kind”.Was a pretty chill show actually. Enjoyed it quite a bit.
I’ve seen behemoth and I can confirm that my heart rate sped up a ton
I've seen behemoth twice now last summer and this summer both touring with Slayer and they put on an amazing show
Sunno sounds like they play one cord every 5 minutes
Thats pretty much all they do. I dont even consider them a band so much as people who demonstrate what guitar gear sounds like
Its doom, so ya know, nothing over 5bpm haha
Correct
They're pretty good for like, a sleep playlist though
They’re a drone band. That’s what they do.
Minutes and position:
10) 0:10 Sunn 0)))
9) 0:30 Swans
8) 0:50 Batushka
7) 1:08 Behemoth
6) 1:24 Shining
5) 1:48 Watain
4) 2:07 The Dillinger escape plan
3) 2:24 GG Allin
2) 2:42 Gorgoroth
1) 3:06 Mayhem
Batushka deserves a better place
Just saw them 2 days ago
And my hair still raises on my arms when I think about them
Portal has a pretty scary look in live performance
What’s the backstory on each of these bands? I really wish loud wire would give a little backstory on these bands
Black metal bands performing during the day are like cosplay dorks, but at night or indoors it’s seriously like watching a live exorcism
I keep expecting a couple of leprechauns and a little Stonehenge to descend.
In short, Dead harmed himself to feel close to death and feel the life leaving him, Maniac did it to be a sick fuck and to scare people, not for attention but for personal gratification
Edit: he basically enjoyed making people watch him cut and brand himself, and yes he did that. It wasn’t about attention it was rlly just cause he wanted to see himself bleed and watch the audience repulse
Before watching
Surely mayhem
Who else?
GG aren't terrifying but borderline psychopath in my book, always hated him.
samuel tambunan than he succeeded that was the message he wanted
His micropenis was terrifying
I've been to a Dillinger show and I wouldn't say it was terrifying, but it sure was entertaining.
My hometown show there was a legendary local mathcore band supporting them and there was broken glass being thrown around in the pit! and people stage diving from the bar from all directions! 😳🤯
It was insanity unleashed!! 😱
The same goes for every band mentioned here that I have seen live. Unless you count getting your wallet stolen at a Mayhem concert as scary.
Next list:
10- Marilyn Manson
9- Kiss
8- Moonspell
7- Rammstein
6- Cryptopsy
5- Alice Cooper
4- Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult
3- Belphegor
2- Portal
1- Hanatarash
I've seen kiss their not scar but it was an awesome show but most of your list is right
KISS and Alice Cooper aren't scary lol. We're talking Satanism and self harming here, not stage props and glittery costumes.
Fun fact!
Apparently my mum was going to go and see helmet, but when she got there the support band was swans.
She thought that they were just a complete hideous racket, and waited until helmet came on.
However there was one more support band, halo of flies, but they never turned up, so swans played for another 15 mins, at which point my mum drove back home!
Btw, she didn't see helmet until 7 years later.
Wow, she couldn’t handle Swans. What a shame.
Watching SWANS live was a life changing experience
Venom back then was really scary when they released Welcome to Hell
Especially for the time
The dillinger escape plan know how to put on a hell of a show,I saw them years and years ago. I remember the vocalist climbing on the lights about the crowd and the people blowing flames at the crowd. Man I miss them
But do they play music?
@@maxrobinson9553 They played incredible music.
@@maxrobinson9553 ok elitist 👍🏻
I saw the Swans in the nineties, they were not scary, just… strange (apart from M. Gira almost fighting with some Cnut in the audience who I think had disrespected Jarboe, I did not see it). When it was over, we all wondered what we had just seen exactly. And in fact, no-one could pinpoint exactly what felt odd ! Come to think of it, considering how many concerts I've seen in my life, that's an achievement…
GG Allin concerts :
Rule Number 1 : Never be in the front row.
@Drew Biggah Don't be in the country he's performing at all
He did have a micropenis, which could explain the anger
@@gilliancourtney4701 Thank you I woke my mom up
Like a Gallagher show but a little different!
No Portal >:(
Fuck I completely forgot all about them. Interchange them with either Watain or Dillinger.
Portal sits atop of all of these mentions. . .
I thought for SURE Portal would be on here
I think Rammstein should've been on this list.
Terrifying or not, I don't give a damn about it. What's important is that they rock live. Fucking wicked!
I’m surprised Rammstein wasn’t included
@bucky468 The baby fox thing is fucked up... I'm not an overly sensitive vegan or anything, but jesus christ...
@bucky468 Out of genuine curiosity, do you have an official source on that alleged fox incident?
@bucky468 I know he's a Satanist, but where does it say that "satanic things" necessarily involve throwing live foxes or any other animals into a crowd of people? I won't deny him ever having done something similar, but I know how easily these things get blown out of proportion, so I'd like to see an official piece of documentation on this specific incident.
That wasn't scary at all.
Scariest thing I ever saw or heard was when Roseanne Barr sang the national anthem that gave me nightmares
2:55 synchronized hair flip
There Was No way in Hell That I Would Expect The Dillinger Escape Plan😂😂😂😂
I’ve seen gorgoroth live at sound wave in Sydney over 10 years ago it got that hot and humid I damn near passed out in the pit shit was crazy
GG Allin was the only real one amongst the crowd. The others were fascinating, theatrical...but not "terrifying".
BTW, why was Portal not in this list? Again, not terrifying, but it should have been included.
Michael Gira of Swans also abused people in the crowd in the 80s. The black metal guys in the list are just "aesthetically" scary.
