I love the fact that even though the band members bicker and have a lot of conflict, they’re one of the few to have maintained their original line-up from their first record (aside from Chi’s untimely death.) They’re able to put their personal differences aside and continue to make great music, which is a very rare and special quality in a band.
the fact that he wants everyone involved in the creation process to figure out ways to highlight their talents in addition to his speaks a lot on how amazing this band truly is inside and out
AcidRain I was about to make the exact same comment. Every single one of their songs is amazing except maybe some of the stuff on (like) Linus and Pink Cellphone
@quartzlcc he never said that, articles just word it that way; he said the album wasnt made as well as others. Fans who dislike that album for whatever reason try to change Chinos words. and i agree Adrenaline although good, would be the `worst` of the albums
@@jayyavid5363 “It was fucking horrible. To me it was horrible. You know why I don’t like that record? I didn’t believe in myself. I was put with three or four different writers [the band’s label and management at the time] made me believe I couldn’t wring a song anymore. My real problem was I had a drug problem and I probably just needed help for that. But it got so much bigger, because instead of just getting over that, they made me believe I couldn’t make music any more. And I believed that! That record is so unconfident, that’s why I hate it. I don’t feel like it’s me-it’s this unconfident version of myself that doesn’t know what he’s doing or even believe in himself. It was horrible. It was the worst time in my life.”
Duuuude i agree. A deftones headbang always starts with a sick riff from steph. This sounds like a GREAT PLAN. Cant wait to see what they come up with this time!
I just love with the deftones always walks in through the waves of music and still keep the tones into the sounds that we always feel in our fingertips and lift the horns in the air and say hell yeah!!!
Chino's a very talented guy but what I most appreciate about him is his pure love for music. What he says about KISS stands out - you don't have to make a decision on a band/artist as to whether you like or dislike them. Music's to be enjoyed and if you're prepared to do the work instead of just hearing a couple of songs and making your mind up then it's a lot more rewarding.
Stoked for where the next release goes. Didn't vibe with Gore as much as any of their other releases and the lack of Stephen's riffage was definitely felt. So cool to hear Chino discuss that. You can feel the love he has for his band.
Folks! Don't get the message mixed up! He means, conflict is good within a constructive, creative process. Not, go out and start shit with friends, family or random strangers. Keep the message within context.. Dummies.
I've had the honor of hanging out with this dude after a Crosses show in San Fran March 2014. I played some guitar🎸and he sang some lyrics🎶at the top of his head! My goal in life before i freakin' die is to create at least ONE full length song with this man! I'm in a band called Scala and Bend, Oregon is our 2nd home. So i'm getting close!🙏🏽
Demise Media Dude! That’s awesome! I just listened to some of your music up on RUclips, you should put it up on Spotify! You guys have hella potential, get found!
It's what I love about Band Music and being a musician. When you meet other bandmates that are kindred in spirit, share the same vision, they're wicked talented and unique in how they play, there is no greater feeling than being in unity and harmony and the love that you share with eachother through music and spiritual energy. You become a family. Couple that with the ability to push yourself and your skills as a musician and try the things that scare you or your afraid to make a mistake doing, you then assend to the next plateau and become stronger as a musician individually and as a collective unit... Deftones have always been great, they're literally their own genre, I never liked how they were labeled NüMetal in the early 00's even though I love alot of bands from that genre and day. Robert Plant said it best: "I don't like the term Metal or Heavy Metal because it implies that we are trying to be something or appeal to something or sell ourselves as something and we're not about one singular style or genre we appreciate and enjoy many different styles and genres of music." And thats why there's only one Led Zeppelin and one Deftones. 🥁Z🥁 🌹💀🌹
What Chino said about Kiss is exactly how I got into Deftones in the first place. Couple songs I dug, others not so much then a couple songs became albums and now im seeing them when they come to Australia next year.
YES! YES! YES! A thousand times, you hit the nail on the head Chino. Steph didn't do writing in Gore and it lacked that Deftones heaviness that is on every record. Gore is my least favorite and I have my degree in Deftonesology, listening to them since 1996 and seeing them live 5 times. Gore lacked a lot of things, was a very talented record, but it fell short of what is Deftones. Chino going to stay with Steph in L.A. and having him write and be involved is the smartest thing to do. Also Probably a new producer. Maybe Terry Date needs to be summoned.
I've been listening since 98 and seeing them live since 99 and I think everything since Saturday Night Wrist has pretty much sounded the same. It's like they've hit a comfort zone. That's just my opinion. The first 4 albums were each drastically different. Now things kinda blur together without a distinct flavor that was once there between each record.
@@whups1744 i dont know why you need to experiment in New fields and have risk to spoil everything if you've succeeded in your own field and can deliever same but a bit different stuff each time. I mean snw was perfect and next was perfect and so on, i dont want another different deftones. Btw you can have this experience of imagine how they would sound in other directions while listening their cover. And it'll be funny if they make real different album this year ,😃
What does he consider their worst record ?!?!? Anyone know?? I can’t think of which one but it’s awesome seeing their creative process and how they feel about their own albums.
It's kind of funny that Chino says he just heard Black Diamond that morning and loves it, because the closing section of Gore (the song playing in the intro) is very similar to the closing section of Black Diamond. I too just just heard that song for the first time this morning and was convinced Deftones were inspired by Kiss but I guess not. Though that is probably the reason why Chino loves the song so much.
Somewhere between white pony and Saturday night wrist there exists a documentary greater than "Some Kind of Monster" that no one probably bothered filming
white pony was their most successful record? i would think that's more about chance events and decisions made by their producers more than an indication of being their best work. My personal fav album is saturday night wrist.
Chance events yes and normally decisions by a producer also but in this case Terry Date (producer) wasn't totally down with the soft Deftones stuff.. that was all the band. It is well documented.
I know that Stephen is a pillar of Deftones beginnings, and Stephen named the band...but as far as lyricism goes I think they should let Chino work his magic unadulterated. ..Unless he wants the help. Not saying I didn't like Gore... But it didn't feel like Chino.
Chino and the boyz are gods They exceeded ever expectation that no one ever had for them. Please keep making albums. I'll see you guys in Indianapolis later this year Max Jackson 2/29/2020. Leap Day ;-)
*Deftones Creative Process* 1. Have nagging girlfriend who blames you for everything, including the fact that she got her hair dyed a different colour even though you knew nothing about it 2. Tell your girlfriend you'll happily recolour her hair 8. Drop toaster in bath 9. Chill
It just sounds to me like Chino tried to take over the band for the last 19 years.. and this is why all their albums after White Pony were average at best. Stephen seems too chilled and drama free to argue with Chino.
Humble dude. His voice is just as important to the Deftones' sound IMO.......
Honestly every member is so vital
it is the deftones
Chino seems to be in a good place.

one difference between Kiss and DEFTONES is you dont have to search for a good song on any DEFTONES record!!
You also don't have to worry about Chino wanting to sue you into poverty because you pirated an album some time
@@immortallix lmao truuuue dude
Chino said he wasn't into Saturday night wrist. I fucking love that album.
This makes me think the next deftones album will be amazing

Aaron 102 it’s the song gore. Off the gore album
Noah Dunston thanks you
Ohms is a pretty good start
Looks like you were right 🙏

Good to hear that Stephen will do more writing on the next one.
Thank God. Put that fucking 9 string to good use.

Adrenaline is kinda mediocre compared to what they did afterwards.

Best band!!!!!!!!!!!!! Deftones!!!!!
I'd love to see Chino rank his own Deftones albums.
No matter how much I love really extreme shit, Deftones will always be among my all time favorite bands!
He is a musical prodigy.
Chino has one of the best voices in rock music...period!!!!!!!!!!
Hi, I'm from the future and Deftones nailed it with Ohms. Can definitely tell that Stephen had more influence.
Dude, I love this man...love these guys!!! So glad they are still relevant and doing their thing...
I have nothing but love for, Chino Moreno.

Glad to hear steph is going to be more engaged in the next project!!! I Love my Deftones man!!!
Love them. One of a few bands in history that is wholly unique.
Will always be my favorite band! Can't wait to see you again this year! 💕
Deftones and meshuggah. If I was stranded on an island with only two bands entire discography, it would be those 2 bands.

If steph is heavily involved in the riff writing, albums gonna be heavy!
I remember when Chino took off his pants at the knotting factory in 2012 I was front row. Hilarious dude was chillen in his undies

I wonder what chino would think about the body
He’s so cute. I wish he wasn’t married 😒 we could enjoy music together hehe

I thought Gore sounded the way it did because Chino wanted less guitar on the record. Now they're saying they need more on the next one??
Sam Tonkin So?
Joshua J Day well what was the point of limiting guitar input on gore in the first place?
I couldn’t tell you.
Joshua J Day Okay so I wouldn’t bother replying then
