Yes, you're right. For someone who calls himself a blues purist, much of his stuff solo is easy listening, radio friendly with a carefully placed solo in the middle. I like a lot of it but it is no way blues. It took him until From the Cradle to make a full blues album. Very hard to find a photo of him smiling too.

And also, as a member of the public, I just love to be called fucking dumb by a musician who relies on me buying his crap to make a living. I'm gonna piss off some Zeppelin fans. While I like them to me it's just Robert Plant and a backing band of session players. Don't get me wrong. I do like Led Zeppelin. I don't agree with Plant's assessment of early 1950s musicians as pure rock & roll but he's entitled to his opinion.
Let's do a simple thought experiment. Put together a collection of the 12 best songs of both Cream and Led Z. Bring together a room full of under 30s that have never heard of either. There is only one band that would keep them interested past song number 2...and that's Led Z. Led Z is timeless...Cream is badly dated.
You think The guys in cream would have loved for bands like Van Halen and metallica and aerosmith etc….to speak so admirably about them the way these bands talk about Zeppelin? Of course they would. Isn’t it interesting how Zeppelin’s competition at the time had plenty of negative comments, while the next generation from around 1973 to about 1995 showered them with praise.🤨 doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out, just a good ear for music. Pure jealousy. Not even going to come on here and say they were the greatest, but they might have been. One thing is for sure, Nobody sounded like them. Not even close🎸
A lot of Cream songs sound like complete rubbish. Zeppelin was more successful in writing songs of quality and quantity. I would put anything Zeppelin did up against Cream any day and they'll come out on top every time.
I never really liked Cream.... When I listen to some of their biggest hits I am left wondering what all the fuss with them was about. Seriously, how many Cream tracks do people refer to as 'classics' that are known worldwide ?
If Cream were so concerned about Led Zeppelin, perhaps they should've stayed together instead of bitching about them. I do find it ironically funny that one group of white English dudes complaining about another group of white English dudes when, in fact, both groups of white English dudes got their main influences from mostly black American dudes.
Agreed, they were just jealous like all the other bands of that era. Interestingly enough. Clapton and Page are my two favorite players that I grew up with!
One could get the impression that Led Zeppelin was a football team who won most of the games when reading through the comments. As if musical quality could be measured in sales figures. As if the purpose of music was about being "higher, bigger, faster" instead of touching your soul and changing your life...or broaden your consciousness.
I have to agree. They have two different sound and to me, appeal to two different audiences. (Though I know a lot of people like both, myself included) I like a lot of different styles and types of music. I find very few artists where I like their whole catalog, it’s about how it makes me feel or makes me think and even relax.
Usually when you boast that you're better than anyone else, you're covering for the fact that you really aren't. Zeppelin quickly mimicked Cream in their very earliest days just to gain popularity, then they mastered their genre and a vast spectrum of musical exploration that Cream simply didn't have the depth and breadth to do. Bruce, Baker, and Clapton appear to have acquired a terminal case of Sour Grapes. It is embarrassing that, like jealous teenagers, they're unable to accept their plight as limited musicians who couldn't find the integrity and character to pay tribute to their obvious superiors.
This is clickbait mostly. Clapton stated he didn’t like the direction Page took what was in effect the mark 2 Yardbirds. Not quite the same as saying he hated Led Zeppelin. At the time of his interview Baker was an embittered old man and hated everyone. Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker were essentially jazz players, and Clapton a blues player. He left the original Yardbirds to play blues. As for Led Zeppelin fanboys, get over yourselves. There were better bands around at the time, with better musicians. Biggest doesn’t mean the best.
I would take Jimmy Page over Clapton, Bonham over Baker and JPJ over Bruce any day of the week. Sorry your "CREAM" turned sour guys but the public has spoken.
Musicians are a strange lot. Regardless of genre, they are extremely critical of one another. Here are some examples from long ago: “Wagner has beautiful moments, but awful quarters of an hour.” - Rossini about Wagner. “After Rossini dies, who will there be to promote his music?” - Wagner about Rossini. “A composer for one right hand.” - Wagner about Chopin. “Greatly overrated.” - Stravinsky about Vivaldi. “Handel is only fourth rate. He is not even interesting.” - Tchaikovsky about Handel. “I’ve been to the theatre a few times and heard Wagner’s Walküre, from which I carried away memories of two or three glorious minutes and a whole ocean of boredom and utter emptiness.” - Tchaikovsky about Wagner.
All the hate towards zep from the journalists and their colleagues, but I never heard zep talking bad to them. Such a humble four gentlemen. All those jealous ass need to gtfo.
Ginger Baker was a complete tosser, Eric Clapton is awful, he can’t write for toffee and his solos are boring. Jack Bruce was the best musician in cream hands down and a great song writer.
Yes, I agree, but Bruce was also very jealous of Zeppelin, & Plant in particular, (every interview tells me this), & he was bitter that Cream did not become massive, when Zeppelin came along, he knew that Cream were finished, & his chance had gone.
Baker was a brilliant drummer, just like Mitch Mitchell in subtleties. Bonham was Bonham. Jack Bruce was nowhere near Plant or, for that matter ,Daltry. My opinion only, as I'm a total Zepp follower. Cream or the Who don't even hold a space in my music collection, which ranges from Jolson to the Zepp and back again. Individual tastes are what make the music worthwhile, and I cannot be ar==d with someone bitching about other musicians. Doe's any drummer or fan bitch about Baker? I think he was brilliant, but he's not on my music shelves due to the cr=p voice of Bruce, or their compositions. (My opinion again, like it or lump it, I don't mind or care.) Have a good day, all.
Same here. I have two or three early Who songs in my collection. Nothing by Cream or Clapton (unless he's on one of my two or three Yardbirds tracks). And my tastes run from Cab Calloway to The Kinks, to Sandie Shaw, to The Toy Dolls. And if I like something, it's never because of the drummer, lol.
The best musicians are always critical of others. Read Mozart letters writing about other composers, Eddie Van Halen about randy Rhodes. There’s competition that drives them but also their disdain for certain styles is what makes them create their own unique style that counters that. Omission and denying aspects of different styles is a part of creativity
Albeit CREAM is and always will be a fantastic guitarist, Led Zeppelin lets their success measure on the 300 MILLION RECORDS they sold in only a 10 year span. And like the jealous Pete Townshend who said harsh words about Zep, it's just sour grapes - BOO WHO. GET OVER IT. Sounds like the garden veriety jealousy nothing more nothing less AND MR. Baker IMO shows no class or respect for the dead. MOREOVER, Eric Clapton could only play blues with a little touch of rock, Jimmy Page (on the other hand) could write, compose, produce and I haven't even talked about how Pagey could play a wide spectrum of rock, blues, folk, Indian music, boogie and write talented balads on various different tunings so I will ask you who's more "talented..."
I completely agree with you. The problem with a lot of people hating on Led Zeppelin is that they never have a reason besides that "I am better" or not giving an explanation whatsoever. There is a lot of bias and jealousy in these remarks.
Cream didn't even like each other. Lasted a couple of years. Eric Claptons music went down hill very fast . Eric Claptons concert I witnessed was extremely boring and a waste of a night. Led Zeppelin when I witnessed them were very enjoyable. Jack Bruce was a. Bore. Ginger Backer though a very good drummer is very high on himself and could not get along with very many other musicians. That said u would rather go to a Zeppelin show than a cream show.

Led Zeppelin is one of my favorite bands, I'm happy they took some songs and made it there's, where are the other songs now, give glory to Led Zeppelin
Smh... this like saying, oranges are better than apples. They all were good bands, its just a matter of taste. Each musician is great for the band he or she is in..im not interested in Zeppelin to much. I like Zeppelin lV but that's it. I feel, i FEEL, Zeppelin were a collage band, a cover band who were crooks, you can't convince me of anything else.
it could just be jealousy, but Ginger is telling the truth ASSUMING Bonzo’s musical intentions are the same as his: Baker is a master at playing with an AUTHENTIC jazz /blues swing feel. If Bonzo’s intent was to play like a traditional blues drummer then yes, he’s no where near as good as Ginger Baker-but I don’t think that’s what Bohnam was trying to do.
Bonham and Zep do not swing! That is, you can’t dance to Zep. Nor the Who, for that matter. But one flick of Charlie Watt’s wrist and a hundred thousand people are shaking their asses off. Not banging their heads. Stones are the embodiment of Swing, at least since Krupa.
To be honest, Ginger Baker hates everyone. Or in the interviews, at least he pretends to hate everyone😂
The only thing I like about Ginger Baker is his drumming skills. What an a-h***
He's almost like Keith Moon in an interview once, closest thing to a compliment you'll ever get from Ginger Baker

They barely liked each other let alone anyone else. Love their music though.
BARELY? I THOUGHT THEY HATED EACH OTHERS GUTS; THEY HAD GINORMOUS EGOS, EGOS THAT DIDNT JUSTIFY THEIR TALENT AS A GROUP;
@@darthscipio5289 Agreed!
Just because you don’t like someone doesn’t mean jealousy. Cream have no reason to be jealous of Zeppelin or any band.
Cream were extremely jealous of zeppelin.
@@alexhoffam4170 Especially Bruce in regards to Plant !.
Cream have every reason to be jealous of the greatest band that lived.
Your funny
Jealousy, period. And Clapton has a history of being a jerk too. Just ask Valerie Bertinelli, EVH's ex, what she thinks of EC.
I love Eddie's response to Clapton - " Forget that teabag."
So the roots of Led Zeppelin were Cream? Haha
Both good but Led Zeppelin was better.
wth does cream have to do with lz? nonsense.
Nonsense indeed
A bit.
I would take Led Zepplin over Cream any day.
Yes, So would most music fans.
Here's a question: if you're ten times BETTER than the other guy, how come you're not ten times BIGGER? Why is Zeppelin still actual and Cream now rests in the past? And also, as a member of the public, I just love to be called fucking dumb by a musician who relies on me buying his crap to make a living. Happy I was too dumb to buy his music in the first place. saved me cash. Here's a trick for all of you musicians out there; if you don't respect your public, guess what they will do with you? Interesting document. Thank you for your work.
Led Z are rock gods and legends...Cream is barely a footnote.
Sour grapes, Clapton included.
Clapton is/was boring. Yawn.
Wow. Talk about sour grapes. LZ wipes the floor with Cream.
It's not about which group was better. It's about what the music from both bands can do for your mind.
I personally don't care what Eric Clapton cares or doesn't care about.
Eric Clapton is THE most overrated guitar player of all time. They may have been first, but Cream had nothing on Led Zeppelin.
Wow I really gotta fn agree. I mean he had his early run w blues breakers n cream but very short lived n yes in fact very overrated!
Page and plant wrote a lot of brilliant songs, and so did Pete Townsend, and so did Jack Bruce.
Because JEALOUSY is a terrible thing! You gonna compare Clapton with bloody Jimmy Page? Oh hell no...Jimmy was sooooooo much better!! And Jimmy was a producer! Snd Bonham was THE HAMMER OF THE GODS!!
The difference here is that Creams make a few good tunes, where as Zeppelin has made close to 100 great tunes!
100’s🤣 😂
Zeppelin 10 years career,Cream 3 years career.Which stupid comparison is?
@@massimolombardi1367for sure.. but they started the shit so zeppelin spanked them.
Zeppelin was the greatest band ever. Cream couldn't hold it together. Jealously is my bet.
I hated Cream. Three guys ,all soloing at the same time sounds like random crap.Which it is. They couldn't groove to save their lives. Enormous egos , which is also why they talk shit on Led Zeppelin .
Arrogant and unprofessional .
Except Led Zeppelin sold 300 million albums and are legends, that no one will ever forget. No one remembers Cream. It's like CREAM, yeah, I put it in my coffee.
Rofl great statement!
The clash of egos. That's all this is.
Zeppelin blows Cream away! Cream was really good. But Led Zeppelin is fantastic. Screams albums all sound similar. Not 1 of Zeppelins albums sound like another? That is musical creativity and genius. Nuff said!!!
Oh please... Old slowhand couldn't lay a finger on Page
Jealous?
Jimmy just keeps smiling and playing his guitar.
BEFORE THE INTERNET, GET THE LED OUT WAS A COMMON RADIO PLAY OF 3 ZEP SONGS ACROSS THE USA AT 7,8,OR 9 OCLOCK PM NO OTHER BAND OR PESON HAS HAD THAT, WHEN ZEP TOOK TO TOURING THEY WOULD TAKE INFLUENCE OF EVERY COUNTRY,CONTINENT TOWN ETC THEY VISITED ,ZEPS BEYOND BROAD SPECTRUM OF STYLE IS UNMATCHABLE,
It’s called jealousy.
Jack Bruce was still slagging Zeppelin off on their reunion shows that were running at the same time as Cream---"Zeppelin are CLAP!"🤣🤣🤣
Embarrassing stuff from the Cream 'man babies' Clapton, Baker, and Bruce. Zeppelin ruled - and still rule - and they couldn't deal with it.
I could never get past Robert Plant
The fact they named themselves Cream as in “cream of the crop rises to the top” should tell u all u need to know about these egomaniacal narcissists!
Bruce & Baker. Good, but really a dime a dozen. Crapton, the most Overrated Guitarist ever.
LedHed Pb 207.20 🎶 🎸 🎹
Ginger seemed like a lovely bloke! 😳
If you admire envy.
😅
I used to admire Cream, but not so much anymore. Three musicians who are full of themselves.
Most are. It's part of there nature
They are full of something.
Ginger Baker cracks me up with that "I've been smoking for 60 years" voice.
Baker over Bonham? Ummmmm,......NO!!! No way. Not a chance. Not in this world. Ask the best drummers out there. Case closed.
Bonham wasn't even the best drummer of his era. You Zeppelin fanboys crack me up.
@@AK99581 But yet, most great drummers of every era since, say Bonham was their biggest influence. Go figure.
So better musicians=better music. On what planet ?
I like both bands but what we have here is some extreme non sense.
@@kenm7179 That last sentence is so true. My exception to that is Chris Farlowes 'Out of time'. The drummer got me to buy it.
I'd like to go back in time so to lock Cream and King Crimson in a room and let them sort out which band is the more supremely arrogant.
Zeppelin will always be the GOATS! The Kinks😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
They always fall back on that old comment. “We were really a jazz band.” No you weren’t.
I never bought a cream album or tape but I sure wore out a few Zep albums and tapes.
A lot of Led Zeppelin fans here. They aren’t above criticism. They made their share of overblown, theatrical cock rock.
I loved Jack Bruce, but Zeppelin did so much more than Cream was capable of.
Cream was great but i prefer zeppelin.
Jealousy, that was the real problem
There is a lot of bias and jealousy in these remarks.
ditto
Such bitchiness
Cream didn't even like each other. Lasted a couple of years. Eric Claptons music went down hill very fast . Eric Claptons concert I witnessed was extremely boring and a waste of a night. Led Zeppelin when I witnessed them were very enjoyable. Jack Bruce was a. Bore. Ginger Backer though a very good drummer is very high on himself and could not get along with very many other musicians. That said u would rather go to a Zeppelin show than a cream show.
Twinkie bars have sold many more than that but there's no logic that dictates a Twinkie bar is therefore better than something with a bit more class.
They call it jealousy. I love Zeppelin, but I could not cop Cream.
Cream more like sour cream that has definitely gone off which has definitely gone off Led zeppelin was definitely much better and much bigger sour grapes 🍇 lasted longer and definitely more relevant must be turning in he's gravy Mr Baker
Pfft sorry not even going to watch it cuz i already **Know** for a **Fact** **MyBelovedOtherWorldlyMagicalLedZeppelin** & **MyBeautifulJimmyPageMagicalMysticalGeniusWizardBabe** are THE **Best** of the **Best** period the end anyone who has bad things to say about them are just **Jealous** pure & simple
Such Bullsh!t - - - every member of Zeppelin was friends with and respected by all the members of Cream
That’s not true. I’ve seen both Clapton and baker bad mouth zeppelin. They lack class.
Of course there was someone else Ginger hated: Jack Bruce....and vice versa.
Two of the best bands ever imo. I don't care what they thought of each other.
This must be the reason Clapton worked on several Pink Floyd songs, and played on an entire album with Roger Waters. Hmmmm
Baker was a legend in his own lunchbox
All lovers of music should definitely check out the documentary Beware of Mr. Baker. A total hoot.
What I heard was a lot of ego.
As I understand it, that's why they only lasted 2 years.
No of them could get their egos in check.
Led Zeppelin is one of my favorite bands, I'm happy they took some songs and made it there's, where are the other songs now, give glory to Led Zeppelin
CREAM WAS TRASH COMPARED TO LED ZEP...TRASH..
Zeppelin all day
Smh... this like saying, oranges are better than apples.
Never was impressed with Baker personally. Kind of a ass how he acted.
it could just be jealousy, but Ginger is telling the truth ASSUMING Bonzo’s musical intentions are the same as his: Baker is a master at playing with an AUTHENTIC jazz /blues swing feel.
Zep did create the best RnR song to date though…
AS TALENTED AS CREAM WAS U PUT CAN'T PUT CREAM IN THE SAME CONVERSATION AS
LED ZEPPELIN GOAT
Bass and drummer in cream both had their kids disowned them- good job
