    • @SpiffSpaff
      @SpiffSpaff 2 года назад +4

      i was playing with my friends, we have very loose rules and we can play almost anything except for a few cards we've chosen to ban, and one game we had both me and another player get no mana for 5 years, and the third player kept getting shut down by the 4th player with a bunch of counterspells because they weren't drawing the rest of their deck. so basically permanent stalemate with nobody able to play anything ever.
      so i finally get to the point where i can start playing stuff, and the 4th player seems to run out of counterspells, so i play timesifter, and then more or less to change it so "if one or more players are tied, repeat effect until they aren't" and therefore we ruled it as whoever got chosen, instead of getting an extra turn got their entire deck milled and had one chance to play instants before they drew a card on their turn.
      i then proceeded to topdeck a 7 cost card and got milled for my entire deck, but i did manage to play more or less again on it right before i died (more or less is my signature spell), killing the 4th player along with me, and the third player had to go, so the second player, who got mana screwed the whole game ended up winning without doing anything
      tl;dr using the power of 2 cards, i ended a ~12 turn long stalemate and the game as a whole instantly and the player who did nothing the whole game won

      Yes, but you only check if something is dead after a spell is fully resolved. Bolt deals 3, then goes to the graveyard, then you check if Goyf is dead.

    Ah, chosing your own destiny; the best way to instant-speed concede! I remember doing it with Talisman of Curiosity in my Niv deck when I was at 1. I was getting all my important draw spells smacked down and running out of isntants to deal with the simic glash deck before me. When I had no out, I tapped the Talisman for Red mana, specifically and stared while shooting him a thumbs up. We was lost for a second until he realized he can't even respond to me killing myself!

    • @8thPlaceDave
      @8thPlaceDave  2 года назад +1

      It's true that it doesn't go to the graveyard until it resolves, but goyf doesn't die to having 0 toughness until the spell has resolved, at which point then bolt is in the graveyard. This comes up fairly frequently at competitive tournaments and is a common misconception!

    At my LGS, on Commander night, they’ll give you a promo card if you win a game, limit 1 per customer per Saturday. Naturally, we like to make sure everybody gets one, so if you’ve already won and you’re about to win again, you concede to the second-place player at the last moment so he gets a technical win and he can grab a promo. My preferred method, though, is to Storm off, Grapeshot, deal lethal to two other players and then myself. Last guy gets the win

    actually the tormogoyph wouldn’t get the extra +1/+1 from the instant (lightning bolt) since the card has to finish resolving before it goes to the grave, and by that time the creature already has 0 toughness for a split moment giving it the “dead” state, so even after the toughness buff afterwards, it still dies. if anyone wants to check my work here, please do. i’m only 80% certain
